The band aid is about to be ripped off in the upcoming patch and we haven’t heard anything about what will happen to taxes for individuals or towns? Right now most towns are staying afloat, barely, by the “Extreme” housing tax while other towns are pulling in Millions and wrecking the economy. The influx of new players, lower tax burden and free Tree Stimulus has helped players maintain but everything is about to come crashing down.
Can we PLEASE get some type of official statement around what the plan is for the January Patch? Will taxes return to normal, something I am sure no one wants… and most towns start defaulting on their insane taxes while others continue to rack in millions?
I’ve already come up with a solution; Taxes for Towns/Upgrades are % based on income so no town loses money and can compete with the big 3 for crafting stations while also capping remaining income at 100k or so to eliminate over inflation.
Will we see this in the coming patch? Or will this topic keep getting ignored even though it’s incredibly important.
I like this idea, @Troysnew I would add to make all income from territory taxes to be territory fixed so that they cannot be withdrawn and use for individual players but only for territory upgrades. @Developer the current tax system that allows gold to flow from territory taxes into individual players hands is one of the major contributors to server imbalance atm, along with gold selling and win-trading. Please consider ending the flow of gold from territory taxes into individual players and instead make territory taxes limited to only being used for territory upgrades.
Thank you for your considerations, and keep up the great work, I’m a big fan of this game and believe it has tremendous potential
I’m glad the bandaid is coming off. If people are - for whatever inexplicable reason - willing to keep houses in settlements where companies jack taxes to 20% then that’s on them. I want settlements to once again have to compete not just on quality of life but also livable tax rates.
Companies must stop being able to rake in 10 time what’s being paid to them. It’s the most ridiculous way to inject new gold into the game I could imagine.
no one jacked taxes before the decrease in taxes and free income. You also need to understand that all but 3 territories operate at an extreme loss. With the 20% thing now they are able to keep up a little, but still unable to afford all upgrades. We need to make all towns viable and no town should be able to make millions.
ship sailed. they screwed the pooch on this one when they linked all the TPs. problem is players are too dumb, lazy, whiny, and entitled to use their brains and stop pumping everfall and windtown full of cash by shopping/selling elsewhere.
back at launch i only did business in our faction controlled territory, to prevent opposing companies from getting any tax rev. average player was again, too stupid and lazy to realize that this is also a PVP game mechanic, by starving opposing companies of revenue, and never bothered to leave everfall or windtown.
by upgrading specific crafting/refining, companies could drive business to their towns as well. now its irrelevant
now we have this themepark market where everything is linked, and everyone just buys and sells in everfall and windtown anyways, when they could just as easily just sell their items in another zone and still have global access to the entire market and deny that part of the revenues to the “big guys”, but theyre just too, again, dumb stupid lazy and entitled to leave everfall and do business elsewhere.
this type of game and its design was just far too advanced for your average twitch watching zoomer idiot is used to the entire world being at the tip of their fingers via social media, amazon, smartphones, and other sources of media.
linking the trade posts helped other towns and made everything more convenient for the average player. I think it was a good change. The less we need to rely on the big three the more we can choose to go other places. The upcoming change to the way Travel distance cost are calculated will also help. However, if the big three can have all crafting stations to T5 while none of the others can then I can’t blame players for needing to do all their business there. The next step is allow towns the ability to upgrade the way others can, then to keep it you need to win your invasions.
Yes I know that, and that’s why I want an end to free income - which means an end to companies getting 10X what’s paid in in taxes as revenue.
It also made it far easier for players with deep pockets to dominate entire server markets for some things since they can now just sit and play at one trading post with complete visibility to the market and the ability to buy out and resell across a whole server. Once again, a change that had the knock-on effect of helping the rich get richer.
I agree with an end to free income but think another fix needs to be in place when it’s removed. Towns will start defaulting left and right and the main 3 will be the only place with people.
i prefer the old system since you could traffic goods from zone to zone and make a profit. the crybabies ruined that angle for me. however in the current system, its even EASIER to cut off the megacorps from trade revenue by simply buying elsewhere, but people still whine about taxes.
i dunno man like i said i think the average modern gamer is just too stupid to play games that have anything more than a kill/death ratio on it.
if you HAVE to do business in a certain town because of the refinery, then it is what it is, but originally that was the strategy of picking certain upgrades by companies to drive business to their town. on our server though, each faction beats invasions now, so losing upgrades isnt as much of an issue.
I would rather us continue to have to purchase at the current rate and then the taxes be lowered to the current state which is more inline with taxes vs renting. Up front cost are fine, long term cost need the huge nerf. However, you can’t nerf the taxes without increasing the amount towns makes.
I don’t think the fishing is terrible, but I can only base it off my experience from WOW. However, I do wish it would level much quicker or have better rewards or chances for better rewards.
A better solution is to completely delete the ability of player guilds to set tax rates. Hard code them to a set number that allows for the proper level of gold sink. Then completely delete the ability of any company to make any type of personal withdrawal of tax revenue. Their reward for owning a town is to see their company name in lights for all the steerage to look at in awe. They should not be allowed to easily afford BIS everything for every member of their guilds from stealing tax revenue! Not to mention there is no way some of these million a week towns are not RMT’ing tons of that gold.
What if they just made taxes general instead of territory based and every territory owning company receives a weekly even share of the entire tax revenue. That way you still get rewarded for owning a less popular territory. Get rid of the different tax percentage for different territories. It would increase competition for the less popular territories and be more rewarding for more people.
this can already be done. you can buy and sell the entire market from any city now. AGS gave players the tools to fight the mega corps. theyre just too stupid to leave everfall and buy/sell elsewhere.
