Dex weapons. Are they useless

I just tried to fight some mobs, lower level than me. I have 307 in dex, with a food buff, and i still barely did any damage to them with a musket and a spear. I get that musket is ment to be good due to it’s range. But there are so few places you can actualy use it. Then add in that the mobs just might reset due to useing the range. This just shows they didn’t bother to test the game

Musket is not a PVE weapon, but it offers its use in group PVP.
Spear in PVE does good damage, you have to consider attack speed on your own.

But aren’t you ment to PvE to level the musket. I just use a spear vs some mobs that was 2 levels lower i think. I barely did any damage with my abilites

BS, musket is trash in PvP aswell.

yeah. A friend of mine who tested it. Told me he barely did any damage with it. The damage is low. Reload takes ages

Right now weapons have specific niches. For most Dex weapons that niche is single target DPS. This means they will be very effective at dealing damage to an opponent. They will not be very good against groups of enemies or at keeping you alive. In order to effectively fight groups of PvE enemies you need a tank or a healer to help manage the heat of the fight.

This does mean that Dex weapons are pretty effectively “useless” in many open world PvE situations. Just as a hammer is “useless” in duels. This is, for all I can tell, an intended part of how weapons are balanced. You can like that approach or not, but I find it unlikely to change any time soon.

As a player who really wanted to make rapier work, I can only recommend running flexible secondaries. I mastered the rapier, ice gauntlet, fire staff and life staff and I switch between them as the situation demands. For the most part that works pretty well. I don’t think there is any force on this (new) world that can save the Bow or the Musket.

Yeah, very efficient. Went with a outpost rush after the resilience fix, I hitting ~800 to heavy armor players with a musket at 300dex 150int, so effective LMAO

In War the bow is strong against sitting ducks on any range.
In PVE the bow is strong whenever you cant manage to constantly hit in melee range.
As for that, its usually good on bosses because you dont need to dodge or watch your health.

As for the musket, in War you pick off the enemies on the backline that otherwise be healed. Make them feel the respawn timer! Do that Killsteal, its your job!
Thats very niche, but its excellent at that.

I was more talking about the specific role of open world solo PvE. Though I am willing to extend that statement for muskets almost universally.

I’m only level 30 but I find the dex weapons useful. I use a combination of hatchet/spear/rapier/bow/musket. Hatchet/spear if I’m fighting close quarters and I want the spear aoe knockdown/single target knockdown/aoe stagger. Hatchet/rapier if I’m fighting something immune to staggers/knockdown or I want the rapier burst damage. Melee weapon/muset using the right side musket tree if I’m pulling a target at range. Melee weapon/bow if targets are more likely to be encountered at medium range. Maybe it sucks at high level but at my level it offers various things to run to keep stuff fresh. And I use medium armor for the quick hop evade since it generally keeps me in melee range and has a quick animation.

i just tried to use the muskets range. Then i aggroed another mob and had to attack both and move around a bit. I actualy moved closer to where i attacked the first mob, yet it still reset. And it wasn’t like i hadn’t attacked it in a while. I had shot at it again, as it ran towards me. So the range of the musket is pointless in PvE, as the mob will just reset, if you don’t attack it for a few seconds. It really shows how little they tested this game. What a joke it is. I guess. But what can you expect from a company that is surpriced, high levels kill low levels, in a full pvp game
