I’m not talking about the content, in many ways, the content is fine… but I am not sure how many people have been affected by whatever they did that causes everything to happen with a delay. Maybe it was just more noticeable with Musket? Either way, I put up with every patch until 1.2 because at least my character felt responsive in the world, then 1.2 came and my character was so unresponsive, I couldn’t play even if I wanted to. OPR… the one thing I really liked (besides Gen / Laz) became such a chore with the delay in movements abilities… it makes the game feel so unresponsive I just don’t play anymore.
What’s worse, not playing means IF they fix the responsiveness 1.2 broke, the penalty for low water mark will kick in and I haven’t been on to raise it up. So now coming back would just put me further behind. I could handle the bugs (though, they were terrible) but the lag / desync / responsiveness just makes playing unbearable.
Have they even acknowledged this? I know people have posted this on the boards, but I wonder if my 100ms average ping has made far worse whatever change they made, and other people just don’t notice.
If I am an outlier, then, RIP because they keep breaking stuff, so there would be little hope that they will make the game playable again for a small % of people with whatever issue I have is.
Just curious how many people have seen the responsiveness / delay in combat since 1.2.
They buffed musket base damage by 2%. Then nerfed musket damage output by 5%+ LOL. musket has a lot of problems that we have put up with. But combined with the desync of your targets and clunkyness of the 1.2 using a musket is pretty meh. So no, it’s not just you. I would not say it down right killed the game. But it definitely does not feel as good as it used to be or could be.
I haven’t made a decision to actually quit, but I haven’t logged on in a week. I have no interest in the game right now. The combat is worse than it’s ever been with lag and weapon swap bugs.
And regarding Expertise, I’m in the same boat as you. Even though they made changes to it by letting you keep your gear’s power if you bought it before the update, I still don’t feel like grinding from 535 to 590 expertise for the future. I can enjoy a good grind, but this just isn’t fun for me. The time gating aspect, and the imaginary currency of gypsum is just immersion breaking. I mean what hell even is it? I have to get crystals to make a pair of pants so I can learn how to wear them better? Idk. Just seems like something they made up on the fly to get people to play longer.
All in all, I think I’m done. Just extremely boring to me and feels too much like other mmos, when I thought new world was something fresh.
I think it’s just to many people on one server. I never had the horrible problem with desync until after they merged servers and we went from medium pop server to 2k on at same time. It’s gotten almost unplayable now. They need to lower the max pop to more like 1k as there were no problems then.
1.2 still hasn’t addressed year-long bugs like the compass still being broken.
Chat when exiting/entering an instance still broken since 1.1
Movement bug still existing since 1.0.
It’s a mess and the developers want to add another weapon this month, what a joke.
I was on a server that had max queue, and I had no desync, delay issues until 1.2. Something they did in that update broke things and I am sure it’s compounded by the lag issues that occur during player combat (i.e. for me it’s worse in OPR) and the compounded more the higher your ping time is (mine is 110 - DSL on East coast Server as west coast player). Having said that, my ping was always 100ms and there was no combat delay pre-1.2.
Not only musket, the delay is on all weapons, I’d imagine that melees who are having difficulty chasing ppl after reducing their lunge are even more affected by this. They got to remove this delay, they can make musket reload animation longer, but the clunky-ness is not good.
It seems pretty clear, they don’t know why either . 1.2 has been out how long and they clearly don’t seem to either know how to fix it, or have a pulse on their own game - and see how game breaking it is… either way, they keep breaking more than they fix in every major (and minor) update. This is one of the craziest MMO launches I’ve seen and I’ve seen like… 10
I mean, I feel for the people who work there, it’s, like, real people’s lives… but very very bad decisions have kept on getting made. Very bad… and the core mechanics of the game keep getting worse even if the content is decent. It doesn’t matter because the core functions of the game make it unplayable (or unfun) and so ruin all the potential for the content.
At this point, maybe it’s bad management decisions? Bad engine (lumberyard)? Bad network engineers? Or all 3?
Not to contradict for the sake of doing so but I don’t have de sync or wep swap issues. Then again my ping is 40 because I play in my region. I have been doing duels and pvp since launch and combat feels great. Didn’t notice any changes with last patch. Im not saying that these problems don’t exist for some people but they don’t for me. Currently having a blast warring over nodes and increasing my exp which is almost maxed.
Edit: Cary I also played Asherons Call on Darktide. Playing NW def brings back those vibes although I think the combat in NW is even better.
I suspect that this isn’t an everyone thing, and that it is better and worse for some… it’s the only thing that explains why it is so unplayable for me, and fine for you. The only thing I know for sure, is 1.2 killed mine.
“Along with weapon swap, we are looking into our dodge cancel windows and attack input timings during recoveries of all of our attacks. There are some inconsistencies that are not intended. For example, you are able to dodge cancel out of some recoveries, but not others, and you are able to perform heavy attacks out of the recoveries of some abilities but not all abilities. Our goal is to make sure there are consistent input windows between all weapons and abilities.”
from dev post. so instead of making it possible to cancel out of every skill which would make combat fluid and add a skill element they decided to just make every skill super clunky to slow the game down to make it easier for the turds.
It’s worse than just that, though, I suspect what they did there is where the problem lies… literally, after I shoot and dodge roll to reload, two things happen every time.
Dodge roll doesn’t trigger unless I hit shift 2-3 times and then after a delay it triggers
The shot after the reload fires 1/2 a second after I push the mouse button.
Also, when I shoot normal shots, it doesn’t always fire after the mouse click…
This is ALL post 1.2. Pre- 1.2 this was not an issue.
Brought back some memories. I ended up really enjoying Shadowbane, but only after I left for a year and came back when it sorta worked… haha.
DAoC was amazing, and I doubt we’ll ever have player communities like it had, ever again (Albion Percival!). In defense of NW, DAoC did have roughly 6 months to work on stuff since it took really long to max level in it. All MMOs were new back then, so they could have really long grinds. I did enjoy DAoC’s mob grouping-exp-mechanic, it helped build the community up IMO.
These days, the graphic designers cost a ton since you need so many for all the models. Back when this all started it was far cheaper. (in many ways, various coding was simpler. And the big elephant nowadays are all the freely available and advertised cheats…)
You’re not the only one. Combat is super clunky and never felt really amazing. But after 1.2 it feels close to unplayable at times. The devs really need to do something.
to be fair DAoC grind wasnt rly that brutal. it was just that at that time everyone was fucking horrible
ppl made abyssmal setups and died every 30 mins so the xp loss was huge. if you played some of the classic freeshards 20 years later which had the same xp rates you could do 1-50 in like 7-10 days no problem in an organized group. on some you could do it even faster cos they had stuff like task items that didnt exist at the original DAoC launch.
After last patch my game went down… i’m actually in a break until the next update, that will be the last hope to go back or uninstall the game… sadly… it’s a good game, just badly developed
