I’m sorry to hear about you getting an error message in the game. I understand how this can be quite frustrating! In this case, I would recommend that as a general troubleshooting you try to Verify Files Integrity
In order to to that, go to your Steam Library and Right Click on the New World Title > Properties > Go to the Local Files Section > Then run the “Verify integrity of game files” check. If this does not work, please reinstall the game and check if it solves the issue.

Instructions for generating a DXdiag : Open and run DxDiag.exe 2 (Open and run DxDiag.exe ).
Instructions for finding the in-game logs:
- Press Windows+R on the keyboard, type %appdata% and press enter.
- Open the most recent file from this folder: /AppData/local/AGS/LogBackups.
- Paste the contents of the file into your message. Feel free to use a pastebin file for the logs, just paste the file’s link to a response and i’ll be able to check it.\

I had the same issue, verifying my files worked.
