Did Greatsword change your views on the other weapons?

Im noticing more posts popping up about weapons and im seeing people talk in chat about wanting reworks. So i wanted to ask the community if you all think greatsword set the new standard for what we want out of weapons going forward.

For me i do think GS set the bar higher than any others and i personally would love to see the old weapons reworked to reach the same height. However i do realize that I shouldnt be mad that other weapons cant keep up with it so long as they decide to rework them in time.

SnS absolutely needs to be reworked and I would be SHOCKED if it wasn’t in the works.

Well the GS is a trigger, but we’ve been calling for reworks and updates on the original weapons that got rendered obsolete with the later introduced mechanics.

GA is the great example. It was king, and Gravity Well was a death sentences. Now you walk it off. Scream? Remember when everyone called it OP ROOT? Now you can just dodge in place and get buffs while doing so.

Reworks are needed urgently. SnS is a set of passives with 2 useful skills (leap/bash or leap/defiant) Hatchet is bugged -AGAIN-, and used for an extra life and to run to the forest and get healed back, tho it still misses half of the swings. And so on, and so on.

The only weapon that was always a good performer was the spear, and by now I’m so mad at the GS that I’d like the spear to also equally scale off STR and DEX just because.

Edit: not calling GA obsolete, just, the kit is not as complete as it was before, it’s a macro autoattack-dodge spam currently, but you get the point.

As someone who HATED well and scream, I really wish they would revert the root/dodge change.

Man I’m ashamed of my post history about gravity well, but look at me now, all grown up, matured, and missing the old days :stuck_out_tongue:

I despise nerf harpies, either take the time to do become good at the game or become cannon fodder.

The games balance right now is so bad its unreal.

and Greatsword is the best weapon they’ve ever created from a design perspective.

VG is my love tho.

I have not tested the thick sword yet. I dont like to spoil stuff so im waiting to release. But i do not think its going to be my new main weapons.

But hard to say, need to do some proper testing to see how it plays first.

It did. It made light armor builds more broken than ever. Did a lot of duels in all armor types on PTR using GS and let me tell you, light armor GS is broken on a scale never seen before in this game.

It will probably be released in its current form because people want an advantage as always, stick for a few months and be nerfed like it happened with every other broken weapon.

But, to explain what I mean when I say it’s broken:

1: if I use heavy armor, albeit with no resilient, but heavy nonetheless, I get hit by heavy attacks for over 3k dmg. Meanwhile I deal 1.2k crits to light armor. Don’t ask me how, I assume we had access to the same gear.

2: The blocking mechanic paired with dodge and calamity counter will make hatchet look like an abused child once this weapon will be released. No hatchet player was able to touch me while I used light armor, and I’ve seen my attacks do close to 5k crits.

3: For some reason, relentless onslaught deals a shit ton of dmg. If you hit someone with both attacks, expect to see their hp drop to 50% from full.

4: Stun immunity while casting an ability that can burst down most builds if they don’t press shift right away is broken ( Crosscut )

5: Spear + GS in light armor will make even range run away like headless chicken, you have access to heavy bleeds, mobility and can block incoming attacks. All you have to do is hit them once with every bleed and watch their soul leave their body

Most players I’ve encountered used 200 dex, 150 str and 150 con and they clapped. The weapon scaling with both stats is nice on paper, but in practice, i’ve seen bosses hit for lower dmg.

It’s not a tank weapon. This is hands down a dps weapon. The only ability a tank can use is the Calamity counter, but at that point you could say a rapier is a tanking weapon because it has riposte. Roaring rupture might seem good, but then again, being locked in the animation for a few debufs on the enemy is not that great. I much rather use shockwave. Steadfast Strike has short range, long animation and while the stamina gained is nice, it can be easily dodged. Reap is better.

I did have a lot of fun pairing this weapon with GA. Bringing the enemy below 50% using the GS then swap to GA and Execute them for 5.8k dmg was fun as hell. Yea, they buffed Execute, faster animation

I do believe it will be one of the best dps weapons in PVE. The dps potential of this weapon while you are in Onslaught stance is off the charts, and it has lots of AOE. Pair this with lots of life steal and you won’t even need a healer.

Yeah, I think sword and shield should be reworked too. Whirling blade has nothing going for it.

You just listed two of the strongest weapons in war for reworks. Things that are in dire need of rework are Hatchet, FS, and SnS.

Are you sure that it’s is not a tank weapon?

For me I think tank can benefit so much for the block while doing heavy attack if in defensive stance

It can work in 1v1, but in small fights your stamina will burn instantly if you do that

I agree that all the existing weapons need a rework (some minor, some major), but all need to be looked at.

Great Axe as axe should deal good stackable bleeds too but axe in New World doesnt do it xD just some kind of push and pull
