Sounds like a complaint to me. Or at the very least sarcasm. Pretty sure noone has ever said that phrase in a positive light.

He brought up a good reason as to why he asked the question. But yes you are also right that the only reason to use the same weapon twice, right now, is to abuse it that way.

Kind of, as someone pointed out already in this thread if you have a shield equipped both slots would be hatchet/shield. So the OPS question is invalid in that regard you would have to just unequip your shield to swap between the two.

Yeah, I don’t need to comment. Everyone has already pointed out how invalid op’s post was.

Which is a terrible way to do it as you cant currently just unequip your shield mid combat. It stays on your back when you switch weapons.

The only thing I am ‘concerned’ about with this is daggers, dual wielding daggers? Will this work? How will this work? Although I am pretty sure an exception could obviously just be programmed for this.

The shield you equip only works for weapons that are compatibile with it… Currently only Sword.
In the future this change can’t affect it at all, as you are wearing one shield, not two. And they just activate once you use a weapon that works with shield.

Think about the one scenario the OP brought up. What if you want to go hatchet/hatchet shield. I would guess that hatchet shield combo would have different skills than just hatchet so that could be a viable playstyle, How does the game decide when to us shield?

They could add a new keybind that just puts the shield away. That way you could have a hatchet in one hand and another weapon in the offhand and then put your shield away to swap between the two. To balance this they could make it to where you cannot put your shield away unless you have no skill cooldowns active just like swapping equipped weapons in combat.

That doesnt work though. I can swap my weapons during cooldown. I cant swap from inventory to actic\ve weapon slot during cooldown. In this scenario of hatchet and then hatchet shield you need to be able to switch just like you can now between your 2 active weapons.

Sure it does, without this balance it means someone could have up to 4 weapon cooldowns to swap between if you can just put your shield away on both weapons. The other option would be to tie the “offhand” weapon slot to be different for each weapon slot. But that means you would need 2 shields if you wanted to do hatchet and shield plus sword and shield or pistol and shield.

No because you wont have the option of 2 weapons with and without shield. I am specifically speaking on the hatchet/hatchet shield taking both weapon slots. If you go hatchet/shield sword/shield then yes to what you said about cooldowns to avoid what is 4 active weapons as you said.

I have not heard anything about hatchet / shield weapon being possible.
Only datamined weapons i seen were daggers, mace, void gauntlet, great sword, and polearm iirc?
As someone else mentioned, that pistol / s and hatchet / s or whatever, are mob weapons in the game files.
Hatchet shield combo sounds weird, because the skills have to be merged / unique for that weapon type. See the sword, it has the shield skills there.
If there were a hatchet shield combo, it would have there own skill set, separate from hatchet and sword shield skill tree. The hatchet from the hatchet / s weapon class would be a new hatchet or small axe weapon, not the same hatchet we use right now.
It wouldn’t make sense for to be the same, because then you have to give a 3rd skill tree in hatchet, or remove one of the trees and replace it with shield skills. And at that point there is no reason to go as solo hatchet weapon on second weapon slot.
