I don’t believe that every skill in the game should have color differentiation, whether for strategic or another reason. However, some skills like Meteor Shower, Sacred Ground, Path of Destiny, Gravity Well, Ice Storm, Ice Shower and maybe, Oblivion should have a “reddish” or “blackish” contour/line/silhouette/outline.
This is a example of differentiation in GuildWars2:
This is a thing we’ve been asking for since last year.
IT IS NEEDED BADLY.
The current system makes it so you cannot trust any sacred ground that your group did not actually tell you they were casting at your feet. It makes it so you can never trust any ice magic to be friendly and you have to run around walls and storms just in case.
With so many of these skills in a small area in wars, you end up spending tons of your time manuevering around potential danger magic when you didn’t need to if there was a visual indication on the screen of who’s they were.
The other option is to flag friendly skills with a Blue/Green and unfriendly with a Red tint.
This should only be needed when you have pvp flagged or in pvp game modes where you are in a group.
As an overarching principle in designing the game UI, everything that makes a difference should have a visible onscreen indication.
If someone is iframing, there should be a visible indication of it, just like when they have grit and they glow white to indicate they cannot be staggered during that window.
If you are invincible, this is even more gamechanging that momentarily being unable to be staggered, so this should definitely have a very obvious onscreen indication.
Give them a sparkly effect like when a chest hasn’t been looted and we’d know they are in an iframe and our skills and attacks will do nothing to them.
More information on the screen helps us make good choices in split second combat situations and it allows for skillful counterplay.
Idk how many times I see like 5 of my guys chasing one dude and a ice shower gets put down and and I have no clue who dropped it down due to the chaos or no line of sight I run into it thinking it’s a friendly speed boost but nope it’s a enemy shower lol damn rip now I got cement shoes for 5 seconds.
Waste of dev resources. I would simply rework sacred ground to be a radiating aura around the healer or the target and turn it into a proximity heal. All the other spells don’t really make sense to change color.
@id_MENZO Thank you for sharing your feedback for PvP color assignments for AoE abilities. This seems to be popular feature request. I will relay this to the Dev Team.
