I’ve heard they worked and that they were bugged.

Basically gems just convert part of your damage to a specific type of damage. Any other bonus is negligible or we would have gamed it out already.
Thanks for the reply. I figured that was the answer. The question arose because I’d noticed that some of the gems socketed into a few looted items were different.
After the damage conversion these would add a statement saying that damage would be based off either the damage of the weapon or a certain ability like INT or FOC whichever was higher.
Online there were a few mentions. A few on Youtube went into some detail, but not enough. Perhaps it was a late beta aspect of gems that was removed.
