Honestly, the key system for dungeons is one of their worst decisions.
@SirPigeon I have two 60s. My original on mimisbrunr and my new main on Camelot. I had 560-570gs drops on my first character. I reached that very quickly with what seemed like very little playtime/effort. On my second sixty it honestly feels like they’ve done something to slow the rate of GS progression after patch 1.04 or 1.05 but I cant prove it. All I know is I’ve been playing for weeks on my new 60 and can’t seem to break 530 GS on any slot. I sometimes get sub 500 items from 61+ areas and myrk will drop 500-508 stuff regularly even though I’m farming mobs/chests their daily.
Again I can’t prove anything but my progression feels stuck and I have no clue why. Something feels really off about their whole watermark system.
I have been 60 since week 2.5 I have yet to do genesis for laz. I was waiting for 600 watermark and cost to be reduced on keys. The cost of dungeon keys is so insane + repair costs if you wipe a time or to. I have no interest in going. What a shame they have designed the end game content to deter players.
Don’t you think 7000 tokens and 500g is steep for 1 key? + all the other junk tied to it
I guarantee that if tuning orbs were removed that way more players would be running expeditions and arenas and not flooding open world elite areas as much. By all means, add in a daily lockout to slow progression (running all of these once per day would still be a huge time-investment anyway) and, if you need to, adjust the loot drop chances so it’s not too fast.
But these places should be available to boost watermarks, not be pending until our watermarks are high enough to get any real benefit from them.
We’ve not even hit this point yet, we’re just now starting them and we love the challenge of these locations but if we’re going to need to grind keys every week to run them we will just leave them until our watermark is higher. Or we just stop playing from boredom. Whichever comes first.
The point of content is to prevent that though, surely… The end game of NW has plenty of content, and varied content if you include all of these instances. Yet… we’re incentivised to ignore them. Nonsensical.
You said “everyone”, which is not correct. And I doubt everyone is racing to max level, but that aside, the lower pop servers would see an issue that wouldnt be present on high pop servers.
What we need is Heroic/Normal separation. Heroic would use the tuning orbs.
Not a bad idea, actually. And you could run normal to generate the stuff for the keys to run a heroic version occasionally, once you’re ready to do it (both with watermark and with gear).
I would have said it was a bad system if I heard about it without seeing it. (The “opening” with a key should probably persist until all bosses are completed unless the person chooses a reset with the need for a new key).
As someone mentioned above 2 sets should exist, one set scaled for dungeon fun for the people that enjoy it, another set for advancement and once weekly keyed.
this is why i sayed chisel should be tradeable
7000 tokens are like 30-40 minutes of pvp runs, you run in a group of 5 people you have 5 chisels and now think about it if they are tradeable. also if tradeable people would sell on market like runes.

Btw AGS is looking to hire senior devs , that should give you a hint what is going on in the company.

But what i saw in one video , the Watermark does not affect the chest drops in dungeons. ( unfortunately i can not find the video right now ), so all u get is 500-510 items in dungeon chests. if you would like to have better items, you have to pray to AGS gods.
one more thing i want to add, if i farm THAT much to craft and get a key, i dont feel secure doing it with a pug. if someone leaves, they key is destroyed, dungeon is over, and i lost 1 week.

It is open world. Its not mutually exclusive.
They fixed these chest drops last patch. Video is outdated.
I think the suggestion that most people have agreed with is that the dungeons should be accessible without keys for the lowest tier of gearscore available (and less drops overall) for the level with keys unlocking a “hard mode” that increases rewards to a higher tier.
This would allow everyone the opportunity to experience the content while maintaining value for the orbs. It would also let players be familiar with the content so that runs aren’t wasted on people who don’t know/can’t learn the mechanics.
It would also make older expeditions like Starstone and Amrine relevant if they had top-end drops for a top-end difficulty encounter.
Of course, I also personally think Expeditions should have rare and unique crafting drops rather than gear, but this game’s crafting/HWM system is such a mess that clearly the devs didn’t like that idea.
