Personally i love the mobility of medium armor, but that damage mitigation from heavy armor is beastly.
100% i want to be playing in Light/Med over heavy. But It’s just not Facebook “Now Meta” haha
It would be nice if you got proficiencies based off of your stats. Strength/Con get heavy perks and when int users try they get less bonuses. just spitballing here
Heavy is meant to reduce healing And light is meant to boost it. But it’s not working atm on either end. So yeah. Classes that play in the Wrong Weight teir should be penalised for doing so. You might be more tanky but your damage sucks in comparison for example. Hopefully they fix it
Where are tanks in pvp? It seems like nobody is actively using sword and shield in pvp. They simply spam greataxes and hammers instead. But no sign of tanks. If tanks could provide bonus protection to teammates staying close to them in PvP, the devs could safely nerf the tankiness of healers and dps without much worries. But right now, it seems like tanks are absent and heavy armor dps and heavy armor healers are filling up the role of tanks.
Tanks mostly just be tanky, but that can be enough. Intercepting arrows meant for the back line is pretty effective. They also can spec into Defensive Formation, which puts a close-range 30% DR zone around them when they put their shield up. Pretty useful for point defense actually.
still I think they should play bigger roles not just in Wars but in all PVP.
3 or more DPS can not knockdown 1 paladins Build healer,
300 int fire staff hit 1800 damage with light armor, the risk of being killed by 3 hits from bow.
300 int fire staff hit 16xx damage with heavy armor, the risk of being killed by 10 hits from the same bow.
so how can the dps keep wearing light armor?
I totally agree. Combine that heavy armor resistance with that 30% fortify and there’s literally no reason for the fire mage to not use heavy armor and stand next to a tank.
They could take a page from SWTOR’s playbook and make direct taunts apply a small damage nerf by the taunted player against anyone but the tank, that could be useful. But I’m not sure if the current framework is set up to support something like that.
I could also see it causing a bug where someone can be taunted by multiple tanks, completely killing their damage and ruining the intent of the effect. Or it might not let the player do full damage to the taunting tank, making them even more impossible to fight against.
I actually use light strictly because of 1vx. As a mage it’s the best option, but realistically it’s really bad outside of the roll. It has a place but when I see the mage in heavy doing the same damage as me and just not dying it’s like facepalm.
well it doesn’t hurt to ask the devs. I just realized today that I cannot find any tanks in PvP. And I also found very few old topics asking the devs to do something about it.
wat.
this
I cant believe how I never noticed this before. But it’s true. I haven’t noticed it till now
Actually no you’re right. The only place I see tanks in pvp is wpvp/forts. Occassionally in outpost but almost never.
I think that’s kind of a matter of perspective. Someone might not be running a sword and board taunting, but they’re drawing focus away from the less durable, higher damage guys around them, and using CCs and slows, forcing people to deal with them first; and making that really difficult. There’s no shield, but that’s literally tanking.
Yes what I meant was active tanks with a sword and shield drawn actively blocking and protecting others. I am aware that there are tanky CC oriented pvp builds. But that’s more of a CC support/disruptor role rather than a genuine tank.
CC and disruption in MMOs aren’t necessarily roles like they may be in a tabletop game. They are tools that contribute to the bigger picture of the 3 principle roles, and this case, tools that a tank has at their disposal to keep enemies from moving past them to their party. What specifically are you looking for that makes a “genuine tank”? Fully-functioning PVP taunts, which would amount to basically a mind-control effect as players are force to move towards and attack a tank, just adding to the frustration of constant CC? Standing and holding the block button so people can simply walk around you? Tanking is different when there’s no AI, but it’s still genuine tanking; as opposed to “genuine tanking”, this theoretical direct translation from the PVE fine details of the role to PVP.
The balance is off, for sure. It needs to be looked at, yes, 110%. BUT, I don’t think it’s as off as the forums and yt videos would let you believe. I am a light staff user in exclusively light armor. I placed first overall in my last Outpost Rush, and I am always in the top 20 in wars, often top 10, and I am not a PvP focused player at all. I think my ability to evade and kite players is actually really, really strong and provides a really valuable asset in large scale combat. I will never not run light armor, despite what youtube creators are telling me is the accepted meta. I prefer this game feel and I make it work really well. Am I squishy? Oh yeah, I’m squishy alright. But I’m really, really hard to catch, and I can go from healing one fight to healing another fight VERY fast. I can kite three or four players away from capture points really easily. I’m a trickster, a distraction, a support player, all sorts of things that I think are really valuable in wars. I do think it needs to be buffed a little bit, or heavy debuffed somehow. But there IS value in light armor in wars, 1000000%.
