Do you think PvE is killing the game?

Oh how I wish that AGS saved the early (pre-March 2019) Alpha forums! I didn’t visit them all to often, but when I did, any thread (and there were quite a few) with complaints about beach camping and intercepting on the way to settlement were filled with typical “lol l2p carebear scrub” replies.
In the end though, nothing changed until about March when most of the Alpha testers simply left despite AGS literally spamming invites weekly and by end of May several times per week. Then everything changed, lead got replaced, direction changed. Losing most of your customer cohort does that to companies

You guys seem to think PVE-minded players have some kind of obligation to play the game that they have to “harden up” for. That is not the case, especially with so many offerings on the table.

Thank God you started this thread. This subject hasn’t been discussed nearly enough.

It’s getting hard to explain “No” in new and interesting ways!

I’m going to go further.

The problem with New World, apart from exploits, bugs, and the other rushed-to-launch issues; is that it still has too much PvP in it.

There’s a place for PvP in this game, but the importance it currently has for things like territory control is far out of proportion to the degree most players want to engage in it.

It needs PvE methods to take over towns, like bribing officials, winning elections, saving the town from PvE invasion, and staging bloodless coups.

On my server, PVE is keeping the game a float.

Holy hell yall are so coddled and brain washed. This is sad. No one wants to force you to PvP. I want to create zones and areas if you are brave enough to enter yea you decided to play with other PvPers. If not you can stay in safer areas and play house. And then other PvPers will put on the market boards items from those regions. Or other brave souls who dare to venture in those areas will.

It’s not hard. Just like you wouldn’t and shouldn’t force a PvPer to do your drool inducing PvE content of say crafting 200 levels of AFK brain dead content. I do not want to kill some dumb level 10. I get bad actors do want to be scum and that’s fine legit but as a developement team like I said you should’ve created a system where that wouldve corrupted you and you became killable at all times even in towns. Legit you became unsafe. Your gear broke easier, Azoth cost went up higher, you couldnt travel to your home. All kinds of crap. But no all you see is I dont want to be your play thing lol yall are legit coddled. And cry babies. You can make such a great game with a great balance of PvP and PvE. Even destroying PvP players gear if they became corrupted and allowed their gear to break and didn’t repair. So it kept people buying gear and or stop them from killing low levels. Like so many ways. To punish them. And then I couldve been a bounty hunter and hunted them down. God this game wouldve been a true sandbox and fun.

Instead all you want is another MMORPG that’s stale and boring. Because you feel you are being forced to PvP and its not even that. Its no different than a mob attacking you when you get nearby. Its irritating but the game should have a system to punish that “mob” which is a player so people like me can also come and punish them constantly when they keep flashing on the map because they are corrupted and now I can just beat on them all day lol for becoming an ass like tell me that wouldn’t have been dope.

Yall have no imagination just. Man a bunch of people kept killing low levels. Developers didnt know how to deal with it and peopel cried. So they focused on PvE and now its jsut a soulless lackluster game. Woooo so exciting.

I remember when I had this obscene amount of testosterone in my system. I am so glad I overcame puberty many years ago.

Follow the money, it is not about pleasing a crowd of people it is about making the most money off merchandise if they made this game to please the PVP addicts it would of been dead by now you need elements in a game to keep it running this is why they decided to add more PVE content as well there is no subscription for this game so they have to rely on sales in the cash shop and out right game purchases they will not bring in a huge crowd with only PVP elements .

It is 100% about the money nothing more …

Actually I think it’s the pvp crowd who are killing this game. There are pvp gods looting servers, mass exploiting and let’s not forget the groups running around in lower zones looking for solo flags. This is all the things I’ve seen firsthand either by my toon or friends.
If pvp is a popular as you say it is, there should be no reason for AGS to incentivize people flagging or the constant calls by the pvp community for AGS to make them.
The thing is wPVP sounds fun. Until you get a bunch of griefers, then it goes downhill, fast. I’ve played pvp in every mmo I’ve been a part of, and that’s been a lot. Almost every major and some minors since eq. Sadly the pvp community I’ve seen in this game is like if you took the most toxic from every game till now, and put them in one game.
Why would anyone who isn’t toxic want to be a part of that, all the time?

During the betas I made detailed posts about why skill-based, fair, and fully opted into pvp was the only way for pvp to succeed in the game based on the devs own article that was posted.

I don’t think pvpers are toxic. I do however think that PKers are toxic. The devs themselves made this distinction as well. The PKers ruined the pvp in the early builds.

The PKers the proceeded to flood the forums with forced flagging anti scaling rhetoric. True pvpers don’t want either of these things. They only want to fight others who want to fight and they want the fights to be as fair as possible rather than waving stat/level sticks at each other. The PKers were relentless and used faulty streamer videos to get the devs to make scaling less effective thereby promoting PKing.

That was very disappointing. Any decision whatsoever that goes against their vision for healthy pvp only encourages PKing and thus promotes hostility between pvers and the entire concept of pvp. It really isn’t the true pvpers than want that though. They want fair, skill based pvp with others who want to fight.

PKers are the ones constantly screaming for forced flagging suggestions. They also are the ones that want no scaling so they can seal club with impunity. They also are the ones who complain about there not being enough people to “pvp”.

So it isn’t the pvers or the pvpers who ruin the game, especially in regards to successful pvp. It is the PKers that ruin it. It’s always the PKers the ruin it. And they are also the ones that make pvers hate pvp, because the PKers masquerade as real PvPers, but they aren’t. They are toxic wannabes who get off on seal clubbing because they can’t handle a fair fight with someone who actually stands a chance of winning.

The devs article is a really good one. It’s just very disappointing that they aren’t doing more realize that vision. If they did PKing would be mimized, true pvp would be encouraged, and there wouldn’t be quite so much tribalism between pvers and pvpers. It really is the PKers fault.

I totally forgot this phrase! I think I first encountered it back in Ultima Online and it’s the perfect phrase for what PKers want.

Thank you for your well-thought out post. I enjoyed reading it.

See I can completely agree with you on this. But as I have stated. All that takes is the dev team to implement things to allow us to handle it. Because lord I’d love to just bounty hunt some assholes who have been seal clubbing.

Thank you for clarifying the point I was trying to make @Saikochoro. As I said, I’m a pvp player. I’ve done mid to high end pvp and raiding (which is another discussion) since EQ. And when I say EQ we are talking before AA points (God I’m old). Sadly something about this game attracts PK’s like nothing I’ve seen. It’s even worse then when WOW first launched and it was so common to grief newbies that Southpark made it into episode.
I hope the devs figure out a way to get it under control because there is a lot of really good bones in this game. I was looking forward to the 60 level pvp when I bought it. Sadly there’s nothing fun looking about fighting 50 people standing on a flag spamming hammer and health aoes to lag out the system and make themselves unkillable.

Soz disagree. I thoroughly enjoy the PvE part of the game. Login, cut some timber, kill some mobs and return to town.

I really enjoy just chilling and playing for a few hours. Not everyone wants to just pvp.

I am doing just this, right now. Couldn’t sleep, so I made some cocoa, and running back to town to handle my inventory. I am ALWAYS handling my inventory.

I think my inventory owns me, and wakes me up to handle it in the middle of the night.

Help me!!!

I think everyone can identify with that feeling. What I want to know is how do I just go out for a quick quest, then come back to town hours later, bags full, and still haven’t completed the quest because I got distracted. So often

All i’m gonna say is, i’m astonished at all these “No pvp mmo has ever been successful” posts. Like, what happened? Why have people forgotten about the gold standard of PVP mmos that is EVE Online?

If you want PVE and PVP, that’s how you do it. You design an economy that fuels the PVP and PVP that supports the PVE.

Because the PvE players of that game didn’t PvP and the PvP players of that game didn’t PvE. They did a great job of giving each their own sandbox to play in, and each essentially ignored each other.

And then Miner Bumping and “Mining Permits” for High Sec became a thing. That’s when I left - griefers gonna grief.

I myself lost any interest to NW when I learned it was going to be a full loot PvP game and only bothered to check the preview when I heard it had changed.

If PvErs have ‘ruined’ your PvP gaem by not being the target audience for it, too bad.
