Or implement a dodge system like in lost ark. The distances are the same, maybe the times may be different.
-Light armor can dodge once every 4 seconds.
-Medium armor can dodge once per 6 sec.
-Heavy armor can dodge once in 8 sec.
These are just random numbers. Even any other system would be 100 times better than it is now. It feels very artificial to see people constantly rolling around like bowling balls.

Any other game basically. In New World 80% of hits miss due to everyone spamming shift. How is this good for the game? It forces you to use any cc available to land a hit, hence why everyone complains about cc spam and this is one of the reasons the game has desync

I actually agree there might be some problems with the current dodge system but I don’t know what you’d actually do to correct it, there do seem to be an a lot of iframes rolling about.

So I basically just heard in three different ways that the game needs hit-stun mechanics.
The reason dodge is bad in New world is not because of distance or the type of roll. Its due to frame inconsistency.
In a concept called frame data, there is three things that take place in any animation.
-Start up
-Active
-Recovery
How AGS devs implemented dodges, the active is present from the start up frame rather than the active frame through out the recovery frame. This gives players the ability to link dodges and overall give off the effect of invulnerability. Due to there being active all the way through, the ability to punish is not there until they are out of frames.
Keep in mind this isn’t only present in light. Its present in all dodge types.
So how do we solve this issue?
We create the order of frames as start up active then recovery. This will bring more consistency to punishing ill timed dodges rather than being able to spam dodges freely and being rewarded.

The dodge is less of a problem than lack of hit-stun. The same dodge properties exist in many other games ranging from Souls games to fighting games, and those games’ combat systems work just fine. Hit-stun/stagger on normal melee attacks is the missing ingredient.
Very great response. The thing with this post was that it was in reference to the old system. What we have now is a mess of layered on systems that contradict each other. As much as I would like hit stagger back, It would hold little value as people don’t play with finese atm. Its alot of m1 spamming and dodge spamming. So in general the MMO community wouldn’t know how to handle that kind of system. And since they are the same people who pointed the direction of where we are now, we have this mess we are in.
Also in other games, the dodges are actually better. New world actually has iframes from start up to recovery while games like dark souls doesnt. Thats why its so easy to be punished and hold more value to your timing in there.
For new world currently, the meta prevents your actions from holding much weight since everything is so forgiving.
