DPS Melee is almost dead

What?

I had 4 enemies on me in melee range and you can see at least 1 musket shooting me from towards their spawn.

I managed to kill 2 with no support and as allies came in they took the last hit on my 3rd kill (I think my heavy didn’t hit and 1 of the ranged killed them before I hit) but they kept me alive… So win/win.

If you’re bad you can’t play Axe/Hammer.

if you’re competent, or rather you’re capable of tieing your own shoes without assistance. greataxe/hammer hasn’t changed since the 1.2 update. Actually is much stronger with the new right perks on weapons.

Range has always been EZ what are you on about.

The issue is how you can actually avoid the GA. Feel free to test it out with your buddies in duels.

i have 1600 armor, and 17.5% reduced damage from thrust. Bows hit me for 4.7k.

Im not at my computer so i dont knwo what 1600 armor is. Are you full heavy voidbent? Because voidbent gives you more defensive against magical compared to physical its magical defensive armor.

4.7k i could see if you get a headshot on a heavy charge. I dont think that is that great to be honest, the chance of getting a heavy shot headshot off is pretty slim if you are dodging. Regardless if anybody thinks bow is meta they dont do any competitive wars.

All i know is i have 599 gear score full resil light armor with 461 dex (no con) and my damage numbers are amazing vrs light armor but terrible against heavy armor even with full buffs like honing stone and food. Like light attacks doing less than 1k damage is quite normal. I have legendary thrust ring and lazarus boss too.

If you dont believe me ill record a video of it. Against light armor i can one shot with a headshot but against heavy its basically nullified completely. But please note my server is far past void bent people are playing balanced armor now so it might be a bit different than your server.

I’m hatchet hammer and I can’t do shit to anyone in PvP if they have range unless I sneak up on them.

I mostly do open world pvp and duels. OPR and Wars are fun but I more ofen than not was fighting in open world. With the new changes to GA, I can no longer play the way I used to. There is no more dueling as a melee player, it is literally impossible. I use medium armor and playing against other players at or around my skill level, before the nerf, I had a lot of balanced fights with dex users and mages. They had plenty of skills to keep me at a distance (ice wall/burnout/the rapier lunge/riposte/evasive shot/ect.) And it was genuinely fun dueling back and forth with balances fights. I think the main issue was that GA users in heavy armor didnt take enough dmg from ranged users in between abilities and could close the distance too easily with the GA lunge. Using medium armor, it was very doable for a ranged user to get enough dmg in between me closing the distance that they could win the fight. I understand that probably wasnt the case with heavy armor users. I think if they nerfed the range of GA for heavy armor users it would keep my playstyle viable without making GA overpowered.

Now I’m faced with a choice. Grind for hours and hours to get a new set of dex or mage gear and also get my experience levels up with those weapons so I can duel/open world pvp, or quit the game. I don’t know what to do.

GA is still viable but only for OPR or Wars it is unusable in a duel scenario as a ranged player will always win unless they can’t hit the broadside of a barn. I’ve seen a lot of pro nerf arguments about how ppl still use GA/WH in OPR so it must still be powerful but this only works when you walk into a group of people and stun/maelstorm them. It doesn’t work for how I used to play as a duelist role against ranged players.

It sucks because I don’t have the heart to spend hours I dont have to grind an entire new set thats viable in pvp. I may have to quit the game until GA is useable.

You can still use melee weapons. You have to equip them and left click spam.

That is the meta for OPR and War where you need to sit on an objective. In any other scenario, it is useless.

As opposed to the ice cc and scream meta?

Im 599 GS with everything legendary with the exception of 600 laz bow running thrust damage ring and 450 dex. On my server people that play heavy armor are not wearing void bent because its trash and its mostly magical defense. If you play an actual competitive player and you light attack him you will get 900 non crit hits with non heavys.

Do you want me to waste time posting proof? Seems a bit redundant but i can if you want. I can one shot light armor if they are not wearing resil but against a good heavy armor player with the correct perks and gems you are not doing damage to them.

maybe if someone GEMMED for the trust dmg. and has perfect heavy set to counter bow dmg (Wich im probably gonna do aswell as my server is full of shooters now )

wich btw means he would be food for DPS melee with slash dmg and also in good gear/perks, OH WAIT the meta changed i forgot :smiley: so he is doing what he can to defend against the cheasy bow crits that are currently going on.

Well, I’m sorry if anyone found my opinion wrong and incorrect, but… it’s my opinion. That’s what I feel like DPS Melee in New World. The last patch changed a lot of things, many of them necessary. I’m not judging the nerf on one weapon or the other, on the contrary: the nerf on Greataxe was necessary, but I think they weighed the hand and got disproportionate. I feel Greataxe is no longer balanced. All of Greataxe’s damage is pretty much around Light and Heavy Attacks, but I realized that it’s become really impossible to deliver these blows against certain types of players that use a certain weapon or type of armor.

Regarding damage, I believe the critical change has altered some other calculations in the game as well. It is not normal to receive hits of more than 7k from Fire Staff and Bow basic attacks while wearing heavy armor.

The last patch did not please me in this regard. I feel that the DPS Melee is now at a level well below the other weapons and that’s okay, as long as it has ways of putting itself on the same level as the other classes.

I’m looking forward to the next patch and next changes. This is just my feedback regarding my gameplay.
