Hi, I looted ring with an empty socket, but for some reason I can’t place a gem in it. I know you can’t replace the gem in the jewelry, but I thought you should be able to place a gem into an empty socket.
Is it intended, bug or there’s any solution? Thanks.

I am sorry that you’re facing issue while placing the gem slot in an empty socket.
Sometimes these kind of issues can happen due to some corrupted game file or missing files.
Please try the steps that follow
-Run Steam and New world as admin
-Run Integrity check
-And relaunch the game

Mate this is a known but with jewelry, nothing to do with the files on your system.

Doesn’t make sense though. If it was intended, the item would have no socket at all.
I think it’s actually been fixed on the PTR.
Hey, I’ve just seen that info on bug forum. But is it confirmed this works for all items that are dropped or puchased before the upcoming patch? That’s the question.
Yeah it’s a known bug, there are a couple of other threads on it.
I believe it mostly effects some or all of the “old” jewelry - old ring, old earring, old amulet.
Most people even cant sell those old Ring stuff even its stated its BoE
I noticed they are on the TP on my server (Tir Na Nog) but they don’t show via searching. So you have to find them manually and it’s real shame.

Either way, nothing currently will slot in those items. They’re really only good for expertise gain at this point. I get them when I use an orb for jewelry

Yeah appreciate the attempt to help but this actually appears to be more of a bug unfortunately. I believe it should be fixed in the new patch from what I’ve seen on reddit. I guess someone datamined it? I think it was as simple as changing one variable on the item (CanHaveGems = TRUE instead of FALSE) or something simple like that. I just made that up as an example from what I remember.
