I just think its funny how nobody was calling for dex builds to be buffed until their precious mage builds got nerfed, it comes off as not authentic.
This is a nonsense reply. a pvp game is a fps shooter where all you do is fight other people. Last time i checked this is a PVE PVP game. Learn how to read before you want to act like a smartass and make some unnecessary comment like that.
Well said Xar hopefully they consider this approach to balancing weps.
I just wish xaryu shared the same enthusiasm for protecting fire staff that he does for protecting ice gauntlet.
I really hope New World devs will listen to all of us
Donāt forget a conversion gem. The elemental damage usually gets past absorption much better than the physical right now. And you want at least 150 int before pumping the rest in dex.
100 percent agree. If these changes hit the main game, Iād probably stop playing with any regularity. Not just because of these massive changes to these weapons and the fact that theyād just be out for anyone who wanted to be competitive in any realm of the game, but because they assume that the weapons arenāt bugged! I have IGs that I canāt even use because ice shower literally does not work when using that weapon! Itās just too much bad design and I donāt know how I would justify more hours in a game that somehow manages to get MORE broken every week. Thatās aside from the fat that they appear primed to introduce pay to win purchases in 2022. No thanks.
AGS, please read this one like your game depends on it, because I think this is spot on.
I agree 110%. They just focus on buffing the other weapons first and foremost. Second priority would be to tune overpreforming weapons down, but not by gutting them completely. Fine tuning is key.
100% agree, almost no one ever thinks a nerf feels good, where you can say the opposite for a buff. Having each weapon feel strong in very specific scenarioās is the best way to go about balancing. Love the take, love the game, love to see NW evolve!
The issue with not nerfing the GA is the fact that it has no true counter.
I agree with 90% of what you said - but they also have to have counters. You feel strong in certain scenarios and not so much in others.
Even against the IG, GA players can dodge Ice Shower easily and if they get caught they just grit light attack out and problem is solved.
There has to be a counter to every weapon, and thatās why they need to nerf certain aspects of certain weapons.
I agree 100%. Great are and hatchet are so much more common than mages yet we need the nerf? The 10 extra seconds on ice storm shouldāve been more like 5 maybe as thatās kind of the bread and butter ability of the weapon. If youāre in a fight with someone 30 seconds is a long time to wait on your main ability.
Hopefully they hear youā¦
I, like many others here absolutely love New World. However, if this is the future of how everything will be handled and balanced in this game id rather save myself the trouble of giving it new chances month after month. I am passionate about this game, i really am, hell i got 200 hours played last 3-4 weeks! I havent played a game this much since i was a kid⦠But i have played games that cannot make fair decitions towards certain parts of their playerbase, and that is in my opinion not a game worth borthering your time with. Neglecting parts of your playerbase while shining lights on other parts of it is in my opinion one of the most toxic things you can do as a developer.
I hope New World continues to listen to their playerbase before theese nerfs hit live servers, i truely hope New World devs can continue to be an inspiration and a light point within the gaming industry. The playerbase wont quit because of bugs when you show that you care enough to fix it, but it will deteriate quickly if you neglect it.
GA/Hatchet is more popular (and arguably more necessary in War). However, that is not the reason why you would tune a weapon down. The reason why they are nerfing mages is because they are consistently outperforming melee in War and OPR.
That said, I do think GA is overtuned as well. But this philosophy of āmake everyone feel OPā is interesting. Maybe they should just improve Sword, Spear, and Rapier and just leave the current overtuned weapons alone.
They certainly need to make sure every weapon actually works properly and doesnāt have any totally useless skills before they start doing any deep surgery on them.
Rolling out so many nerfs before fixing the weapons first is my biggest issue here. It feels very ham fisted and I canāt really understand where they are coming from with a lot of these balance changes while there are so many issues with the skills and passives already.
The thing with the IG ultimate doing too much damage is a perfect example that makes me really frustrated. Fixing that could have been the only thing IG needed but they are getting ahead of themselves now and I fear for where this is going long term with this approach to balance and bugs. I really hope they seriously consider feedback here before PTR goes to live.
Thanks for using your platform to not only post on forums, but to make content on this issue. The mage build felt incredible on release. I have no idea why the devs/designers are choosing to go this route and completely render an entire skill (int) useless. These changes arenāt slight, Iāve already been noticing how hard it is to keep an enemy frozen due to the ājumpā tactic. Whereas other weapons like gravity well keep you stuck, leaving you to die.
The main thing New World had going for it, was the fact that EVERY SINGLE WEAPON CHOICE FELT STRONG IN ITS OWN WAY. These nerfs will effectively make ice gauntlet, fire staff choices that arenāt viable.
This isnāt just a nerf to one or two weapons, this is a nerf and almost complete shut out for the WHOLE INTELLIGENCE SKILL.
always agreed with leagueās philosophy of āimperfect imbalance is the most exciting kind of balanceā because it forces people to think and metas to flourish and adapt.
but even then, even if after 2 months more than half of players are using the same weapon combination it speaks to a bigger underlying issue that needs to be addressed, and instead of nerfing the weapon a better alternative would be to buff its ānatural predatorā instead (lets say, mages), which will lead to more people adapting to counter this new āpredatorā (with bows and muskets) creating more diversity in weapon choices.
Couldnt agree more.
Iād love to see these clips or you performing top 5 in OR with bow rapier. Iād also like to see you 100-0 a heavy armor player with the same combo. I donāt believe a word of your post without this proof.
Dude, I am from Brazil and I watch your vids every day!
As the UnknownPdodigy said you also were an inspiration for me to play mage in NW, great to see you expressing your opinion here in the NW foruns as well!
Your last youtube video represented the exact sentiment of what I felt when I saw and tested these changes in PTR yesterday night (Everything Wrong With New World's Game Balance - YouTube).
Overall I agree absolutely 100% of what you said in the first post.
I just wanted to add that: the mage roll is what I LOVE playing (ig AND FS - that was probably even more nerfed in terms of damage) and I dont feel I will be able do it anymore with these PTR changes.
Also, looking at the meta it feels absolutely UNFAIR comparing to weapons that actually are meta like the GA.
The NW has been so far a great adventure for me, something that strengthen the relationship with my friends in a moment that we all felt really alone during the real life pandemics. Maybe that is why I feel I have to say something about it here, I dont know (I usually dont write in forums that much)ā¦
AGS, thank you for everything so far. I really hope you can roll back most of these changes, and truly listen to the community feedback on this one.
