Each weapon should 'feel' OP (in regards to PTR Ice Gauntlet)

AGS needs to think more like this, the changes made to musket and bow came out of left field they made no sense. In either a buff or nerf sense it was confusing as heck how they got to the conclusions they did.

Big true

yep like eso did, tank/heal spongebath meta. Look at mag sorcs they’re like retail WoW mages having 8 health bars with the ability to deal massive aoe and single target dmg lol, most imbalanced class in eso, or was when i quit a few years ago

I do believe every weapon should feel “op” if their win conditions are met, I also believe that the very idea of “balancing” a game as buggy as New World is kind of silly. Not bad outright, I love that they are trying to keep the game balance but first they should focus on fixing game breaking interactions, because somethings may only feel strong because of bugs/exploits.

I also believe Ice Gauntlet ISN’T particularly strong outside of it’s win condition, I rarely see them used and the players that do use it I almost never lose to, but that’s anecdotal, I could just be fighting bad players thinking I’m good lol, however it just seems pretty easy to avoid the Ice Shower all together with the ability to jump out of it, roll through it and even more simplistically avoid it all together lmao.

Fire Staff I believe is the strongest weapon in that “Mage” build because it’s win condition is always active, which is “crit”. I personally believe you can keep the fire staff strong while removing a large part of it’s win condition simply by removing the ability to crit on heavy attacks. That way they can maintain spamming the heavy to reduce their cd’s and gain back mana if needed but it also won’t be their strongest move outside of a fire ball,
but then there’s the awkward part about auto/heavy attacks being a large part of the games combat system so idk.

Over all I think that the Ice Gauntlet has a win condition that’s pretty avoidable and outside of it it’s not the strongest weapon, and that Fire Staff is a “Mages” primary source of damage and is kind of over tuned so it needs to be looked at but I don’t believe Ice Gauntlet is a weapon that’s all that threatening on it’s own.

What’s crazy is they nerfed int to the ground but buffed strenght, which were two equally best classes, like what?

These changes feel knee jerk.

Intelligence users might as well take a break from the game if half of this goes live.

Buff other weapons before nerfing stuff into oblivion. No one wants to play a game where most of the weapons tickle each other. This forces players into even less options to stay competitive. You need high damage combos/ counters in EVERY weapon category. Instead of nerfing IG, give sword or spear a hard counter to it.

Spear uses have an ability so they can’t get frozen/ rooted. Or better yet get a haste buff if they use an ability that always breaks them out of root. Try that first. please

you tried to write a big paragraph with facts but sound so dumb. One of the first things Xaryu mentions is " All weapons should feel overpowered in the instances they’re MEANT TO FEEL OVERPOWERED IN". Every single weapon in the game already has a counter. You’re playing a bow ? Play up close and DPS. Playing a tank? Keep your distance and keep spamming attacks. Playing against a mage? Again, get close and start attacking. People need to learn how to counteract the player they’re up against instead of whining on forums to make every weapon except THEIRS weaker so they can have the advantage.

This honestly sounds like a LOT of whining because “mY wEapOns gOT NeRfeD”. You lost all credibility when you started talking about other weapons and how “good” they are. Mainly looking at bow and musket. Bow is meh because of the heavy meta and how likely you are to miss with it even if you’re on target. Musket is the weakest weapon in the game right now. Seems like you’re just upset that you can’t 1vX whole zergs anymore like you were doing on your streams lol. I get it. You used to be a badass PvP mage in WoW and that’s what people know you for. So you feel like you need to be a badass mage in New World and if you aren’t people will start thinking differently of you.

I do agree with one thing you said on your stream though. Great axe and hammer both take no skill and you just click left click until everything is dead. That definitely needs to be fixed.

Sincerely,

Another Mage

Not to mention you LITERALLY can just jump out of an ice shower… Melee users be braindead apes.

Once caught, spam click shift jump and itll hop you out of the shower…

Agreed. AGS new to balancing, it is obvious.

So much “yes” in one post. SMALL changes, wait a couple weeks to see how that changes the meta and the feel, then more SMALL changes.

Also, hitting a core mechanic of a weapon is rough. I play the IG because I like the root on Heavy attack. Adjusting values in small amounts is a bit safer, but hitting core mechanics is dangerous. As Xaryu said, IG is lack luster in almost every other scenario. Not trash, but lack luster, and that is the trade-off that makes it fun. Feels amazing in certain circumstances, but has tradeoffs.

Hi,

I hope the developers or at least the community manager … are reading feedback like this. I’m also a fellow mage and the changes to fire and ice are heavy handed. Why you would remove the crit for fireball is interesting… Are we expecting to remove the crit from other weapons as well?

I’m going to take the liberty to post Xaryu’s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rekphggW_b4.

Perfectly said. Thank you for taking the time to write the above post!

I agree with the OP imensely here. The changes to Ice Gauntlet and Fire Staff on PTR right now are WAY too heavy handed. Though, I can agree that they need some toning down - this is too much. I sincerely hope that AGS revers these changes.

The both feel way too weak and in the state they are in now they will see little to no play in PvP considering the damage and combo potential other weapons offer.

No you can’t. You are just making stuff up at this point. Kinda sad TBH.

Another Xaryu fanboy who has never played pvp properly, any good ice gauntlet user just puts ice shower directly on you so that there is zero chance for you to dodge or walk around it.

Your favorite streamer is not a god gamer and hasn’t mastered ice gauntlet/fire staff, sorry to break it to you.

Ice gauntlet freezes being reduced is needed, currently ice gauntlet can freeze you for 12-13 seconds total. That is ridiculously long and both their abilities are giant AOEs so they are super easy to land.

The only dumb changes are the ones like making fireball unable to crit, because that is just unintuitive and defeats the point of stacking crit as mage.

Are you just trolling this thread to contradict every person who agrees with Xaryu? Make your point and move on.

Hope this helps.

Wtaf are you talking about? Xaryu is literally jumping before and during zickah’s Ice Shower at 0:06. You couldn’t possibly show the ability to move while “rooted” clearer than that. At 0:16 he drops Ice Shower and zickah enters + exits at 0:21. You can even see he’s moving with the Frostbite debuff on lmao

This is the worst troll post I’ve ever read. Making shit up and putting “fail” in the link doesn’t make you credible. Especially when the videos you post straight up prove you wrong.

IDK man its just sad you believe this non-sense.

You must have never played vs or never used ice gauntlet before, its extremely obvious in the first clip that when he tries to jump he can’t move until the freeze has already ended.
