What the heck is this EasyAntiCheat that I see trying to run on my computer all of a sudden? I got the patch this morning, and played fine, but now I get some program I have never seen before wanting administrator rights on my computer!!!
Anyone know what this thing is?
Its exactly what it says it is.
They used EZ in Bless Unleashed and it didn’t stop bots from teleporting and nocljpping through the world.
Edit: They may have added it for Linux support?
It’s a well known anti cheat software, been around for years.
Some games require it.
Not harmful to your computer.
So how did this program suddenly get on my computer? Been playing NW since Oct 8th and never saw this before.
That one is debateable, but yes, it comes with New World since the beginning. OP only noticed it now because of a popup dialog.
It seems I have to allow that unknown program “to make changes to my computer”, or NW will not launch.
Epic acquired it a while back. A massive amount of games use it, it is fine. 
It’s not an unknown program. It’s trusted. 10’s of millions of people have had it on their computer for years.

If this program was running in the background for the last 3 months, why is it only now demanding that I give it admin privileges’ all of a sudden?
Now I have to talk to my friends and see if they have this running on their computers or not.
What do I do in the meantime if I want to play the game like always, but refuse to allow admin privileges?

Yea, this morning, and selected to play as soon as was possible after completing the download, and played just fine…

You can take off your tinfoil hat and click “allow”
I think I’ll take the day off, and submit a bug report instead.
well there you go that’s how it got there … you did it by clicking update, so techinically you installed
It’s been in the game since the beginning.
DUDE, EAC has been in the game since it was released, only today there was an anti cheat update. I don’t know what’s wrong with people nowadays, but you don’t look at anything when you install games…
I got the info I needed, and things are back to normal, so I thank everyone that posted helpful responses here!
