Elemental Gem Status Effects

This is a feature suggestion I’ve discussed with many guildmates and we agree it may be a great addition that can change up how weapon gem slotting can be done, in both open world PvP and war PvP. For the most part, barely anyone slots elemental gems in PvP due it scaling with INT and not many people run them in weapons like swords or hatchets or what not, in favor of other gems like Emeralds.

My suggestion involves making elemental gems that convert a portion of damage to the respective elemental damage do an additional status effect along with their respective elemental damage. Of course this can be finetuned and revamped in order to keep everything balanced, which is why the devs run PTR tests. For example:

  • Topaz gem: Can have a small proc chance to do stamina damage or a stamina drain debuff and along with the respective elemental damage it already does. This proc chance would be based on the rarity of the gem.
  1. Flawed Topaz - 3% chance to proc stamina damage
  2. Topaz - 5% chance to proc stamina damage
  3. Brilliant Topaz - 7% chance to proc stamina damage
  4. Pristine Topaz - 10% chance to proc stamina damage (obviously these numbers can finetuned and adjusted, or have limitations on how many times a person can be drained or something)
  • Ruby: Does the respective fire damage conversion and also a small chance to proc ignition (burning) on an individual, reducing healing abilities for a duration of 10 seconds. This can be stacked up to 4 times, resulting in healing reduction of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% respectively. A player can only be hard-locked to 4 stacks regardless of how many people with fire gemmed weapons are attacking them to prevent multiple separate stacks of ignition. Can’t be placed into a fire staff.
  1. Flawed Ruby - 3% chance to proc ignition
  2. Ruby - 5% chance to proc ignition
  3. Brilliant Ruby - 7% chance to proc ignition
  4. Pristine Ruby - 10% chance to proc ignition
  • Sapphire: Does the same respective arcane damage and a small chance to proc true or pure damage on an individual that penetrates through all resistances. No stacks with this one, just a straight burst of pure damage.
  1. Flawed Sapphire - 3% chance to proc pure damage of roughly 100 damage
  2. Sapphire - 5% chance to proc pure damage of roughly 150 damage
  3. Brilliant Sapphire - 7% chance to proc pure damage of roughly 200 damage
  4. Pristine Sapphire - 10% chance to proc pure damage of roughly 250 damage (These numbers for proc chances and damage can be adjusted for this particular gem)
  • Amber: Small chance to proc a healing burst for the wielder of the weapon (can’t be placed into a healing staff for obvious reasons). No stacks here again, just a burst of healing energy.
  1. Flawed Amber - 3% chance to proc a healing burst of 100 health
  2. Amber - 5% chance to proc a healing burst of 200 health
  3. Brilliant Amber - 7% chance to proc a healing burst of 300 health
  4. Pristine Amber - 10% chance to proc a healing burst of 400 health (this can be finetuned and adjusted)
  • Amethyst: Does the same respective void damage and a small proc chance to do corrupted damage (disintegrate damage). The status effect here won’t do any actual damage to the individual but instead will disintegrate the physical and elemental resistance of the person being attacked. Duration can be around 10 seconds. Can’t be placed into a void gauntlet for obvious reasons.
  1. Flawed Amethyst - 3% to proc disintegration reducing physical and elemental resistance by 5%
  2. Amethyst - 5% to proc disintegration reducing physical and elemental resistance by 7%
  3. Brilliant Amethyst - 7% to proc disintegration reducing physical and elemental resistance by 9%
  4. Pristine Amethyst - 10% to proc disintegration reducing physical and elemental resistance by 12%
  • Aquamarine: Does the same respective ice damage and also a small proc chance to inflict frost on a person, reducing their movement speed. This can be stacked like previously up to 4 times, and duration would be 10 seconds again. Frost would slow movement speed down by 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% respectively depending on stacks. Aquamarine can’t be placed into an ice gauntlet for obvious reasons.
  1. Flawed Aquamarine - 3% to proc frost
  2. Aquamarine - 5% to proc frost
  3. Brilliant Aquamarine - 7% to proc frost
  4. Pristine Aquamarine - 10% to proc frost

This may seem OP, or would result in a situation where fights and wars would result in constant status effects, which I would argue that additional potions can be made that would remove said status effects and provide a small protection time against them, such as 2 or 3 mins for example. I think this addition to the elemental gems would be a great feature to add a different style of PvP. Personally I like to see elemental effects on weapons for cosmetic and gameplay reasons. Hopefully the developers can incorporate something like this, let me know how you fellow peeps think of this feature.
