I’ve fished to level 200 being extremely excited to unlock the level 200 hotspots in Ebonscale Reach. After hitting 200, I left my typical farming spot and went to Ebonscale, only to find that all the fish I get there are subpar…
I get the same fish as level 12 zones, which seems to mean there is literally no benefit to high level fishing except longer cast line? It does not feel good at all in my opinion.
Disappointed. But not surprised to read this.
It may just be Ebonscale that has this issue (I’ll check that and put a line in the water there to verify that it has fish not on the base table) because I know that what you can catch in Reekwater, Mourningdale, Restless Shores, and Weavers is different than the available fish (although yes the tables all include the basic fish as far as I know) in the low level zones.
Additionally, assuming you’ve run the quest chain to go with your Fishing Master (grats by the way) title and you actually wear the gear you are getting really significant boosts to luck and size buffs.
I haven’t finished the entire quest chain but I do have the full set. In rare spots for ebonscale though, 60-70% of my fish are clams, which don’t get affected by size…
That sounds really buggy, sleepy. It’s possible the Ebonscale table is bugged so maybe drop a question into the Bugs forum? I’ve had short streaks where I got crazy runs of snails or clams (or far more annoying, seemingly one damned tadpole after another) but they always seems to sort themselves out fairly quickly over a long fishing session.
Ok, not Ebonscale but in general - I just bopped over to Restless for a really quick test:
30 casts:
0 clams
2 oysters
8 Halibut
4 hake
1 sculpin
So 50% were fish not on the low zone tables - I think your Ebonscale experience is either a weird streak of clams or the table is bugged there.
[EDIT] spent a little more time - 60 casts total: 0 clams. I’ll go to Ebonscale later when I get some time and see what happens.
I’m not sure about this info, but I thought that the legendary fish from the lv60 zones were specifically for trophies (which idk if they buff luck or not).
The idea with fishing seems to be that you fish in the correct area for the legendary fish you want, as those are required for +40 stat foods, and Fishing level along with gear should boost your luck stat towards getting more of them.
So unlocking the last ones is only for those legendaries, and allegedly more luck.
Trophy fish are not just from the 60 zones.
