The facts are dumbing down mmos is never the answer all it does is attract new casual players that will quit later along with the vets, just look how eso dumbed down their open world, hardly anyone likes it, its a constant complaint on steam and their main forums on almost a daily basis.

The issue is the kiddos do not understand the difference between a fun grind and a crappy grind since all they get is either no grind or crappy grinds these days.

I’ve been interested in MMO games for years.
I have 3000+ hours in the new world.
What I want to talk about is
You allow to add “special items” to dozens of “BOSS” and get them from them. Then you make it even easier and you add extra so you can get it from somewhere else.
Some items are falling really hard, for example “Dark Vengeance” I kill mobs for 1 year, I open “safes” but I still can’t get it. Some things are really hard. Now he created dozens of bosses, who? why would you kill You destroy the logic of the game in some places. I will not touch on the subject of pvp. As Pvp, the game is already weak…

So you want people to have to do the grind you had to do to get to where you are. Right?

Listen kid you must suffer because back in my day if we wanted to play MMO we go together and had world wars!!.
Selfish and entitled children these days. pfft

Honestly? “Back in the Day” (when EQ1’s highest resolution was 640x480 and the Langseax of the Wolves was one of the most sought after weapons in the game, people actually enjoyed playing the game, getting to know each other on the server, building relationships, creating a guild of people that were friends both ingame and IRL and, eventually as the game slowly evolved, raided (yes) but… we enjoyed the evolution of the game and the journey itself.

I don’t recall ever seeing forum threads (back then, anyways) with people screaming “Omg omg omg this game’s too hard!!! Gimmie endgame materialz NOW or I’ll quit and take all my friends (c’mon… you know they didn’t have any…) with me!!!”

Back then, gaming was more about community and fun than “L00k 4t my sh1ny g34rz, y0!”

Just sayin’ I was there. I actually REMEMBER “The Good ole Days”

The game was always easy.

The “hard” you speak of has always been a matter of RNG and in no way reflective of player effort or skill.

I wouldn’t imagine you would because there werent really alternative then and gamers were mostly the nerds who could figure out how to use IRC and connect to the internet wo AOL doing it for you. Okay EQ1 wasn’t that long ago but you get my point.

Im old enough to remember those games didn’t play many of them myself really bummed at missing out on DaOC from what my friend describes.

However the market situation that existed then doesn’t exist today. I get people of a certain age myself included want one last nostalgia trip of the glory days before its all mobile games and we’re relegated to the tablet while we apply for our AARP card.

BUT games and genres have to evolve there is simply too much competition. Literally the magic everyone speaks about in old school MMOs has largely been replaced by discord and social media overall. That whole community thing you literally don’t need an MMO for that anymore.

However the one thing MMOs do that really no other genre can is give you a big open living world to occupy and explore. How you “progress” through that world is literally the only thing Im giving feedback on and im not even asking for full on casual no progress grind most of the time. But if people are going to be obtuse then my fall back will always be monetary return.

Back in our day a game with a pop of 40k would be the most popular game in the world given who played games back then. Now its a rounding error. Better to design the game that will attract the masses while having systems in play in key areas that the HC can enjoy.

My delineation is PvP vs PvE.

i agree with OP !
if scarabs go through as they are right now in PTR, this will be no longer an MMO, more like a MOBA. At that point we need to compare it to other MOBAs like LOL and oh boy is new world lightyears behind LOL when it comes to balance, skilled match ups and overall fun.

Why even stop at 2-perks, let everyone craft with 3 locked perks and guarenteed legendary.
Give everyone BiS, and lets see how long this game will be “fun”, loging in every day to play 3-4 oprs will be the only END GAME activity.
cuz whats the point doing M10s or any other pve when everybody has BiS already. RIght now you do m10s cause you get somehow excited about drops etc. that will be all gone when everyone has multiple BiS sets.
everybody is crying about how expensive bruiser shit is etc.
yeah its expensive and needs a lot of grinding to obtain, but its not impossible nor any harder than any other mmo.

Apart from bruiser, you can easily go full bis with any other class.
Healer for example:
Ennead gives you BiS LS, BiS rapier for healer is 30kish
gear pieces are 200k on average
ring is 250k
amulet 200k
earring 40k

total cost for healer to go FULL BIS is around 1.5m
if you have trouble getting 1.5m together, then sorry cuz you are playing less than 1 hour a day.

This just shows how disconnected from reality you are. When you start saying one of the easy-to-get BiS builds only cost 3 times over gold cap. When most people only make about 2k/gold per an hour farming mats. If bots haven’t farmed them already. Yes you pretty much show how silly you sound.

We get it, you want a hardcore grinder MMO. Where only the grind is highlighted in the game. And the more one grind the more successful in PvE and PvP they are. My question is, what would be the point of having Action Combat in such a game? Because at that point one player can hit for 6500 damage because they’ve grinded for 1500+ hours. While the other one only hits for 500 damage with the same weapon, because they’ve only grinded for 200 hours. And this is why there is currently very little player interest in New World’s PvP venues. Compared to other MMOs that have competitive and standardized PvP modes.

You might as well be loudy telling the PvP crowd, " there kinds are not wanted here in New World." Because that is what they’ll hear. And will go play MMOs like GW2, BDO, FFXIV, ESO, and Lost Ark. Where they don’t have to grind for Hundreds if not thousands of hours of a 3 to 4 hour PvE grind loop.

Simply put unless New World makes PvP accessible like other MMOs and genres. Then it will be very unlikely for it to convince enough PvPers to have a populated PvP scene. Most PvPers will either quit NW’s PvP or the game in general once they see the what’s required of them to be a factor in PvP here.

Some things definitely need to be hard. But some things aren’t hard they are just tedious, this is coming from a day 1 one of the first 60’s on server. I bet you don’t miss all the chest runs for 2 expertise or the paying 2-4 thousand gold per dungeon run. Some things need to change for the better, but they need to add or keep challenging things.

Change ”dont want” with ”can not” because we actually have full time work. And a family. Impossible to sit 3 hrs a day gaming…So we have money that the game need. We still want to play games But not as this game has been in the past year.

Its only easy for WW and EF owners. Its so hard for everybody else. No matter what they do

Its already tedious… who needs those BIS items for 300-400k lol. farming for hours to get 3rd perk when you can just have … 2 pieces resilent + 2 most important skill perks rest resilent + freedom or shirking do you know what is cost of this gear ? 2-4k each piece… and u can play OPR and making 10-12k points. You dont need buy jewelery cuz BIS u get from PvP track. Freedom perk due to current arena’s and OPR’s meta also becoming useless, it gives u nothing against staggers and knock downs. Well if someone has problem to pay more for like 25 hours to buy 3 perks none or close to BIS items well MMOs are probably not for him. ( Prices from Dry Tree TP)

don’t forget they will rage at how the servers are overun w one or a few companies owning the server extracting gold from all their hard work in pve.

I dislike the gold payouts I think it imbalances the economy BUT the main reason companies in the lead stay ahead is they can literally get any good pvp player they want by simy offering to gear them through gold.

it’s a completely idiotic system of gearing and progression for pvp content and is exactly the reason the war mechanics are in the state they are in.

just scale pvp and leave pve grindy already

The whole point is to use those items im interesting ways in combat right? Not just getting them as a trophy. How you use them should be the most rewarding. Once this game gets a competitive end game pvp mode accessible to everyone through skill, amd vice versa for PVE having more access to BiS will be so rewarding.

not really you will still need progression and gear to clear PvE content, will it reduce the possible pool of players doing said content sure but it will also filter it down to the people who really enjoy it and will make those 25 runs through LFG way smoother or it will make it hell for people because wo forcing people to do the content the pool will be too small and even harder to do but that sounds like a is this a fun thing to do problem more than anything else.

level 10 armies could only be a threat in perfectly scaled gear. not necessarily asking for that either and also again horizontal progression should matter.
problem is perks scale w gear score. but perk advantage, consumables, weapon mastery, total number of gear set, gem allocation are all avenues to create differentiation and still have an impact if done properly and it was designed very much in that direction early and often enough to make it possible.

to answer another question I’m not actively playing outside of looking at things on ptr and haven’t played since they removed orbs on mutators.

not stuck on anything as I said have a nearly maxed toon. all weapons 20s all base tradeskills 200, couple craft skills fully setup for 595-600 rolls etc etc

did it all in about 1600h and I’ll do it all again on a fresh start.

I’ve said it repeatedly and I’ll say it again don’t confuse my dislike for a design choice as an inability to perform the tasks required of the design or laziness or any of that dumb shit.

I just call out anti fun design where I see it and advocate for fun.
