I am concerned about the cost of gems following the release of Mutations. Gems and the Quintessence needed to cut them are already expensive. I predict this will be increased exponentially because of the Mutation Orbs requiring Gem Dust along with the fact I will need to replace Gems in my Enemy specific gear.
I currently have weapons for each major enemy type and corresponding gems for each (Example: Angry Earth Exterminator [Spear with +dmg to Angry Earth type] with a Ruby. When running Genesis mutated with Hellfire, I will need to replace the Ruby with something else. The same will be needed for each piece of armor for higher Mutation tiers.
With the current system in place, I will either need multiple versions of gear with applicable stats or will need to constantly destroy the gems in each piece of gear to replace them.
Because of the current problems with Storage, Gear set selection and management and RNG of drops, having multiple sets of gear with decent stats, applicable enemy type stats and with different gems in each sounds like it will completely miserable to both acquire and organize. If we have 1 set then we are going to constantly have to spend more and more gold to replace the gems to compliment the week’s Mutation while also destroying gems to make the gem dust.
The first solution that came to mind was making all gems removable without destroying them. I do not think this is a viable option however, because then people could just by X amount of cut gems and never need more, thus destroying a large portion of the market and Stone Cutting value.
My suggestion would be to allow multiple gems to be bound to a single piece of gear and allow the player to choose which to be active. This selection could have a cooldown as well (preferably tied to the weekly mutation change) to prevent situations like “Im dueling a fire staff user so I can just flip on Rubys in all my gear”. This may actually help the stonecutting market for cut gems because players would want multiple for each piece of gear instead of of just 1.
The storage management in this game is already bad and we dont need to compound it with needing multiple sets for each mutated expedition. We also dont need to constantly replace the gems in our gear while also destroying 30 gems to make a mutator orbs.
