Expeditions need to be able to be done without a party

+1 for SWTOR Solo Story Mode
I want to take my time looking around and enjoying the experience.
Not running after dungeon spammers trying to max level because a streamer told them to.

Master of understatement

I am more of a completionist I would like to be able to do all of the content that so much hard work that the folks have went into making. But at my own pace and distance and as I game at wonky hours by general gaming standards but am basically locked into a regional server area due to MS I continually find many aspects to date both frustrating and often like trying to form groups exasperating as well.
Why the need for items such as Keys and Orbs to simply enter a dungeon area seems a bit of a time wasting overkill as well. I mean I may be a gamer but I have a real life so limited time to boot.

Oh no! a MMO forcing me to socialize and play with others!

No, but they need to be sidequests.

Main Story needs you to go into Amrine quite early on to get a quest object in order to proceed further.
There are sidequests that send you into Expeditions (as well as Faction Missions). maybe that’s what they are talking about.

It just seems odd to me to go “OH you NEED to do this to progress” , “BUT; we are not going to give you any tools to allow to to quickly form a party in order to do it other than use the general chat”, to start with.
And I still hold by my statement. Any "Dungeons / instances whatever you want to call them, should be easily accessible to any player whether in a public formed group, private formed group or even solo, should they wish to do so.
And none of this “You have worked and grinded to level 50, BUT, when you enter this zone / area / dungeon; we are going to reduce all of your stats”, type of stuff.

At times I and I am sure others may simply want to go into a game, kill lower or equal level MOBs, ALONE; simply for stress relief. Or go to an area and farm it simply for drops and MATs.

We should not be forced to “You must form a COMPLETE party of a Healer / Tank / and 3 DPS” type of stuff to be able to do it.
So yes, heaven forbid I may want to game alone on some days whether this is a “MMO” or not.
That is all I am saying.

people acting like mmo automatically means form a group party and have fun. However it simply means “massive multiplayer online.” its supposed to symbolize an open gaming world with others. stop forcing me to make friends I don’t need.

Weird how there are so many advocates for a single player game in an MMORPG. No wonder the MMORPG market has been lacking in everything except WoW clones for years. That game really did ruin the genre by getting a bunch of normies who have no business playing video games addicted.

You do realize that solo players existed long before WoW was even created, yes?
I was mostly a solo player when I played EQ and DAoC, as well as in UO or many other MMORPGs that predate WoW. Granted, it meant I wasn’t able to experience all content but I still got to do a chunk of it.
Also, vanilla WoW had a lot of group stuff. It was changed when their expansions were released and they adapted to suit the needs of a wider playerbase.

While I don’t think every dungeon needs to be doable solo or have a solo version, the ones tied to the main quest definitely should.

I think there could be some alternative ways to let you continue to progress the main story without having to do the dungeon, but I don’t think making dungeons soloable is necessarily the way.

The one case in which I think it might be justifiable is if the dungeon did not drop the same loot when completed solo. Let people do it for the story, so they can keep moving on in the quest, but the rewards are for people doing the more difficult group version.

That would be fine as well, as I’ve said in another thread about the topic… it would be my prefered solution to simply have pop-up message asking if I want to skip the dungeon and continue with the next part afterwards.

That should definitely be case, group rewards are for group play after all.

Why?

What do you guys think is going to happen by progressing the main story lmfao. Nothing is locked from it, except you getting your azoth staff, which really doesn’t matter since the higher tier azoth staff is used for high end group play in which case you got a million other people running around capable of closing any corruption portals. How hard is it really to get some help from some company members to go do a dungeon? It’s quite hysterical that people actually think pushing people away from player/community interaction is the right way to go in the genre. What a sad state of affairs.

I literally carried, LITERALLY, my entire company through the depths so they could complete that part of the main story (since I was the first 60.) The only problem I’ve encountered with the main story is not being able to re-access the well-guardian once it’s completed, so I can go back and help my company mates do that portion of it. Eventually late comers to the game will be screwed. This is a simple fix, all you need is to make it so anyone can enter those areas regardless of main story completion. Not to dumb down the content and start shifting into a single-player game with opt-in coop like WoW.

Not everyone is part of a big company (or any company for that matter), so a lot of people have problems finding a group for the main quest dungeons. It’s great that you carried your company through the Depths, but not everyone has that luxury.
And no, this is not about pushing people away from social interaction. Since there’s basically no social interaction during a dungeon run, beyond "LFG ", "LFM ", “LF tank/healer” and afterwards if you’re lucky a “Hi” or “Thanks for the run”.

You do realize that some people want to finish the main story to experience the story, yes? For them it’s not only about the Azoth staff, but about to get a conclusion to the story that started when they shipwrecked on Aeternum.

I am a completionist mainly and like to complete all content. Yet, as pointed out, not all of us want to be part of a Company and do PVP wars and such either. If i am say level 60 and want to go revisit a level 24 dungeon, I honestly think it is a bit redundant to have to get a full party together to go revisit and or farm it for drops.
OR have to have special keys and orbs just to re-enter it. Maybe required for the first time I can understand especially if it is main story line based. However after that it should not matter.
And even then if my friend a level 24 has the required item"s" for the quest line, again we should not need to wait an hour simply to get a group together if say only 2 or 3 of us is required to complete it for them.
Just as one of many possible scenarios.

I was part of a two-Company Discord group. Probably close to 100 members in total. Looked for an Amrine group during prime time evening. Even talked about it in Discord a couple of days prior to rustle up interest.
Including myself we got TWO people and we both needed it for the main quest progression.

This is way worse than any other MMO I’ve been in. For example in SWTOR I’m in one of the busiest guilds on the server and although most days no one will respond, usually eventually I’ll get a group going.
But not New World. No idea why especially as we had Tuning Orbs from the quest. Maybe the small server cap has something to do with it.

As I have stated the NEED for Orbs and such to enter an area is very prohibitive for the majority.
I can see the need to have a quest say to enter an area the first time and upon completion it is unlocked for good, however as you have shown the current system is massively flawed, especially when there is no form of PUG or group finder option.
many of my friends I introduced to the game have already stopped, many citing it is too prohibitive in the current format to complete end game content or to go back and revisit dungeons and such.
Definitely something that will need to be changed if this game is to last beyond the “OH a new game to check out”, stage.
