Expertise System is killing this game

remove daily timegates! nobody likes them. It restricts the players who have limited time to play making them not even want to come back and deal with it… such as myself.

I can understand a 24 hr cooldown on certain materials, which is totally fine. THAT makes sense. All of the other time gates regarding gypsum and dungeons or ANYTHING else, needs to go away.

I don’t want to grind my ass off for a few gypsum per day, which is why I haven’t come back after having already crafted and equipped near-maxed gear which was scaled down back when you introduced this gypsum crap.

I still don’t even know why you did it. Why? why gypsum instead of a gold sink to upgrade items? why add allllll of those extra resources to bog down the game more just so you can time gate harder?

Thats what you need to fix man. Double XP is irrelevant af

as a matter of fact, stop restricting players in general. when the bulk (50-70%) of the active player base start reaching a certain item level, then you release content. It’s simple. Put stuff out, wait for grind, release more stuff. No gating anything. It makes no sense to have someone pay for a game and then have them pay with TIME which is SO MUCH more valuable.

Set a soft cap of like 580 where you can find upgrades from 500 to that soft cap just by killing/looting chests in zones of lvl54+. Once a player gets to 580, then expertise mechanisms are required.

Look at Destiny, pretty sure this is how they do it and it works well there.

To append on this, scaling in each zone, look at how Guild Wars 2 does this. Well designed. Also, if a friend joins at lvl1 you can play adequately with them when your level 60.

I have a correction for your title. it’s not killing the game, it killed the game. It needs a resurrection. Otherwise I 100% agree

lol go play the game this entire post is complain because u don’t want to grind at all or can’t buy of tp how sad me and my friend gs 540 already bb so it not hard at all and gypsum cas ant grinding at all because most are mindless and take no effort on the players part they can bot the cast everyday btw full 500 to 600 in less than a week play the game not just pvp then u might get somewhere

Soo glad to see another person from healthy server bragging about how easy it is to get expedition queue

again, 9 out of 10 people bruh. Still waiting for that sparkle

it should have been 590-625 imo.

My opinion:

It’s annoying to majority of players because it has to become the focus of your gameplay rather than just happening by enjoying actual content and is a false limiter on items unrelated to difficulty. Dailies are similar trash content people do but only because they are forced to - not sure how this became any mark of decent game design…

Possible fix not removal

Lessen slots
Jewelry
Heavy/medium/light armour
Weapon types -Rangfed,Magic,1h,2h

Makes less but keeps some in

Make use and achievements also increase - exploration bumps etc

Don’t forget – tanks get punished because they have to level three weapons instead of just two to be able to fulfill their role: Sword expertise, Shield expertise, and their alternate weapon expertise.

Expertise together with the completely unnecessary 625 GS bump is the reason I’m not coming back.

The whole system is incredibly convoluted to me now. Expertise, Gypsum, Umbral, Crafted, Dropped, before Patch, after Patch, upgradeable, not upgradable.

What they should’ve done for progression instead? E.g. Add a second ring slot and let players decide if they want to craft, grind or buy. Freedom of choice.

Today, I wasted 5hours for World Tours, Dungeon and still waiting CD casts gypsum to upgrade BB but u know. Im still stuck at current Expertise and within 3 days I just can up it from 500 to 530  .

What a joke at here?

I think it’s fine. People who planned ahead, both before the expertise system was implemented, and when big changes were coming (e.g. blunderbuss) have managed to get their GS in weapons and gear maxxed quite quickly. Like anything else, it should be hard to get to max gearscore.

Throughout the life of this game so far, I see people who want to take the easiest path to top level, top GS, top whatever, then complain that the game has nothing to offer them once they get there. That’s their perrogative, but it’s disingenuous to say that the system is broken because people have to be patient and plan ahead.

Time is much more precious for AG than for the players…
Why do you think they created the orbs and expertise ?

I would respectfully disagree with you.

In my opinion it should take time to get max gear for the many different possible builds the weapon system allows doing interesting content - to get a number maxed designed to arbitrarily restrict gear drops regardless of difficulty you undertake is not fine and planning to overcome said arbitrary hurdle is not fun (to me) hence devs increasing methods to get past this but not removing as so many have spent time on this content stretching system and would probably be upset their effort is nullified by removal.

I have played since start with my small group of friends - we haven’t even done all the expeditions many farm - why? Well others are levelling at differing rates for this expertise and so as a team of friends why do top level content when some cannot get the top level rewards for it simply due to a number even when they are doing the same difficulty of content? It can be argued it is harder for those of our guild to complete max level content at lower expertise and for their skill they get lesser gear - just a wrongheaded system overall but it isnt going anywhere so alter to mitigate somewhat would be good.

makes 10 days for 600, that seems pretty fine for an MMORPG, which is a long time thing…
go play csgo if u want same gear instantly

I can understand the position you describe, and I’m hoping that – over time – AGS continually releasing more content will provide other ways to achieve these things. I still feel like the grind is inherent in MMOs and shouldn’t have, for lack of another phrase to describe it, an “easy mode setting.”

One of the biggest complaints from old school WoW players was “this game has become too easy. remember the good old days when it was hard?” Granted, I think their memories of just how grindy WoW was are colored by the rose-tinted glasses of the past, but as things like group finders and the inevitable P2W elements of the game get introduced, there’s going to be just as many people getting upset about how the game is too easy as there are complaining that the current system makes it too hard.

I like the rate of progression currently, but that’s me. Most people in my company and on my server seem okay with it, but that’s just been my experience.

Fair comment it isn’t a game breaker for me or my guildies just my opinion on our experience. I don’t care about it’s difficulty more the way it is anti reward for doing content with lower quality gear which seems backwards to me but just my opinion and as you say will be many changes ahead.
For others my concern would be new starters and adding weapons means an arbitrary grind for power levels we have already achieved in the game so would rather it be by weapon type not specific.

See how it shakes out

Again, i just want everyone to know that this kind of gating system is actually quite common on live service game. Hence we are here to help dev to further improve the system that reward both casual and competitive player.

In my opinion, gating or expertise should be always able to be completed in matter of days (couple week max) without doing specific content multiple times. Do it your way and reach endgame in relatively short time, not punishing people who doesn’t want to do specific group content repeated time

Fortunately the shield gear score does not matter for getting your character to 625. I have left my shield at 600 and have a tank setup at 625. The shield was one of the slowest ones to level to 600 prior to introducing gypsum orbs though.

Just a gentle reminder that “takes a long time” is not difficult, and you should be just as proud of any participation achievement in an MMO as you are of growing your hair long…

When it comes to game design, I would err on the side of fun. And not providing sad, lonely people with a false sense of accomplishment.

But that’s just me.
