People don’t get… everything gets boring and repetitive…
What’s missing is those rare secret addictive items that make you want to farm over and over.
How fun would it be finding a guaranteed + 20k g item killing a lvl 4 boar…
Oddly enough before the entire change to gear score, and the changes to make some areas completely out of the touch of most solo players, the game actually had better pve balance, and there were drops that could be defined as carrots. The current system has made all the carrots completely worthless, including the quest weapons/armor. They never really added new carrots.
Yes, but you can only level one up by one point every day!! It is slow af and ridiculous. The time gate makes this feel like a mobile game. Honestly, if they removed the time gate the expertise system would be fine
Why do people keep asking this question? Guild Wars 2. I played PvP the whole time and got legendary gear. Still play it. Probably the longest played MMO with over 2000+ hours played. Love the game.
The reason you think grinding and MMOs are synonymous is because that is what you are use too and it is what you like. Though it may not be Fortnite it is still a game and a game needs to be fun. Most players do not want to grind in an MMO especially one that continues to lose its player base.
I want to try out other weapons for new builds, but I do not want to play dungeons anymore I got burnt out. Also west coast servers are just about dead so low level dungeons are not really an option anymore.
LMAO! What’s an MMO if there is no one in you server? Before you say “Just transfer” I’m going to let you know it would be my third dead server.
Gear score is a big problem for casual players. You need to gear score to compete in PVP and high end PVE but you already need to have that gear score bump to do the content that bumps gear score, if that makes sense. It’s like this big circle of frustration.
This is especially true in PVP where you won’t even tickle a Gear score 600 if you are below 600 right now. And this makes arenas and any of the instance PVP so unfun. You don’t even get any reward progress if you lose, which means you won’t progress the bar to get better gear. Once again, another circle of frustration. I know that arenas could be fun, they were fun in the PTR when I had access to half way decent gear, but on live it is the same circle of frustration.
There needs to be something done about the system to make it more fair to those with limited play time. Either remove gear score from PVP or filter the queue so you are matched with people of similar gear score.
As for PVE and dungeons, they need to make luck gear easier to get or buff open world chests to give more of a chance to boost your gear score regardless of luck. Or maybe have gear score have less of an effect on your drop and just have luck affect drops. IDK, but something needs to be done.
I think a good food for thought to the developers is that if double exp can bring back thousands of player or at least bring concurrent player count back up, they should imagine what a double expertise could do.
only those who have no idea what they are developing hastily insert a change in the design of the GS after a few months … this game has been programmed and designed by incompetents … the result is under the eyes of all … sorry but it’s the hard truth. … they are only capable of deceiving the players … shameful
Theyve got to add catchup mechanics, im 625 in my dungeon sets but honestly i just dont have the free time to be wasting on regular dungeons when theres sadly zero incentive to do them. The gypsum is 400 shards for helping? I already dont have the same amount of time to play as i used to and to have such little reward feels pointless. I feel like ive done 100s of each dungeon, no need to try for named items. Sadly i dont think theres much the devs can do, games losing players slowly, and has no good way to retain new players. Severe bottlenecking occurs once they need to farm 500-600gs as well as doing those initial mutations.
It is sad to watch the game die by something they honestly feel is a good idea. I am comparing the steam charts to other recently released RPG’s and New World is having a hard time retaining players. Personally I suffer from a lack of time and ended up going back to Elden Ring. The thing I like the most is the build diversity and ease to switch builds. New World stops players from switching. I am hoping that with the dungeon matchmaker it can alleviate the friction, but till than I can’t summon the will to work on it. Plus doing that amount of work in an MMO that appears to be losing players compounds the lack of motivation. The game has gotten better, but needs to fix the friction points faster. However I will comeback when the matchmaker is implemented.
Agreed. Expertise is just a pointless and a very unrewarding grind. They should add several dozen or so new unique weapons, armors, mogs, housing decorations, pet skins and other unlockables to already existing and upcoming dungeons through random drops and (new) quests, so it gives people another reason to grind them. Add PvE leaderboards and a PvE Rewards tracker as well, similar to the PvP tracker. Add 20-50 man raids too with 100s of unique rewards.
The GS system is fundamentally an artificial barrier to slow down leveling. I can only assume it was because they did not want players to reach end game too quickly, but the game is now at a point where many people are already there and new players have a daunting task to catch up.
The easiest way to improve the GS system, IMO, would be to remove any daily caps on raising any given gear slot. This would allow someone who is really trying hard to get a new weapon to 600 the opportunity to raise their GS for that item by a much larger amount each day. It would still provide some level of artificial slow down, but it would provide for a much better sense of progress for the player.
As for Umbral Shards, they are a weird system in general and don’t seem to provide a very fun system for players. The goal of the game should always be for the players to have fun and both the GS and umbral grind aren’t really that fun.
I would personally prefer to adjust the GS system as outlined above (remove any caps on daily progress) and rather than umbral shards, have users gain higher level gear 600-625 from crafting, faction vendors, PVP tracks, Arena season rewards, and dungeons / mutators as specific drops for high level activities.
The biggest problem with GS, Umbral Shards, and gear in general in New World is that none of those reward that sexy piece of gear that gives you a really big hit of the dopamine. What makes games fun is seeing that shiny purple drop. Outside of dungeons, there really isn’t a good opportunity to get that really good gear.
Perhaps it would be interesting to consider umbral shards being a currency for specialized 600+ Umbral Casts that give a 600+ piece that actually has good stats and is usable from that specific item pool? The problem for the most part with Gypsum Casts is that they are terrible gear 100% of the time. It would be better if Gypsum Cast gear was actually an upgrade you could wear at least 50% of the time or items you could sell or would want to keep. This would also encourage people to continue to open casts regularly for interesting loot and to try and get better items.
So tl;dr my preference would be:
Remove daily caps on Gypsum Casts to allow you to do 5 Swords if thats what you want
Add Umbral Casts that are 600+ Items, so Gypsum Casts = 500-600 & Umbral Casts = 600-625
Make Umbral Shards a currency for Umbral Casts
Make Gypsum and Umbral Casts reward really good items (Legendaries, Special Named Items, Smaller Perk Pool) that are usable because it’s just more fun. No one wants to open a crate and get trash greens. So not only do you get an expertise bump, but you get an item you actually want to use (or can sell).
I think New World is still dying because of the expertise system. I checked the player count an yesterdays peak number was 14k. This cannot be good for the health and the feasibility of the servers. No one is going to want to do this grind on an MMO that is headed to deaths door soon. I know my server is going to have to go through another merge. At this point AGS is really going to have to address this or this game will tragically going to literally die.
Amazon said in the beginning that this was going to be a game much similar to Dark Souls with a survival game element, open world pvp, and playable for casual players. This was all the points that originally got me to buy the game. Fast forward to today and I see very little of there original promise. However despite that fundamentally at its core New World is a great game, but the gameplay loops are repetitive or broken. My biggest complaint is still this expertise system. 1) Because it will take a long time for me to horizontally progress into another weapon type and 2) When knew players realize the grind they question its worth, time needed, and the fun factor then 9/10 will choose to stop playing all together. For crying out loud before it is too late we are begging you please reconsider the expertise system. This thread alone has many good ideas to fix it at least. All you have to do is act. I’m the end what do you have to lose that you haven’t lost already.
There was much criticism about Lost Ark and the way that they timegate players. Despite the fact the 600,000 accounts were banned due to botting Lost Ark is still steams top ten games. The reason is because casual players can casually play the game and have fun. New World can take from that. You can keep players engaged by making the grind fun. Please please please.
I’ve seen a few posts saying Expertise is off-putting for new or returning players. Can’t speak for anyone else but I returned two weeks ago and I’m enjoying Expertise. Yes, it is an artificial time-gate, but it also gives me and boyfriend something to do. We get our gypsum from the daily bags, the faction guy and jump into an elite chest run to gain some levels. I enjoy it.
Yes, there is definitely differences between us and people that are already high level, but that’s the nature of progression. You play and eventually get to where the big boys are. In regards to PvP I can’t comment because I don’t partake in it.
So on the PTR they did do some of these things already.
The new gypsum orbs from salvage i think, do not have a limit/cooldown
gypsum casts benefit from the smaller perk pool and are rewarding purple/some legendaries with good stats.
Also someone said on live yesterday they were getting the potion gypsum without having consumed a potion. Would have to test that myself to confirm if it was not just a bug. But that’s a neat addition if so.
