Expertise...will there ever be a solo option?

You can solo all the expertise solo.

Topaz, emerald, diamond, and obsidian are all solosble topaz.

99% of elite chests and stock piles that drop expertise bumps are soloable.

Those gypsum at 600 drop umbral shards.

A solo route exists but as it should in an mmo its slower when you limit yourself to solo play.

Also were all learning the hard wzy anything less than 602 in mutator makes it exponentially harder for your group.

Normals you should be fine. Buy a seat for 1k go laugh your way through an easy dungeon with over geared players and still leave with about 2k more than you entered.

Hey that sounds good, I always thought the runs had to be as a group, guessing I just avoid the bosses/groups of mobs in that case? I’ll have to check out some videos, really didn’t want to have to though as I enjoy the idea of learning everything ingame…but needs be must. Thanks for your helpful response.

Yes look for solo run videos. I ran it solo at 520 as a heavy armor healer… was a paladin tank at about 550 and full tank beyond that. I ran scorched and the forts solo religiously. Ive never done myrk solo but folks do it tailing trains.

Sirens has a solo route so does imp palace.

Malevalence depending on your gear and the boss states can get to elite bodses solo.

At 595 your best bet is making sure to get gypsum done and run normals even if you have to pay.

If you get into a good group dont be affeaid to offer your mutator orb.

Skill is at certain points more important than gs.

I should say that although my gs is 595 my expertise is way lower than that, it’s just that I bought my gear before the patch which made everything scale down. With that said I think these solo runs will still benefit me. Thanks again.

Also you can wait february patch on live server. You can receive gypsum from the quests. (and other options)

Laz and Gen sounds great but everyone wants mutated

I guess this depends on server, but I see a lot of normal runs of both dungeons going. Even when I was on Bifrost this morning with 150 people there were runs going. Maybe a server move may help after some scouting?

As others have said though, there are a large variety of ways to get gypsum that you can totally do solo. Outpost rush you can just gather and build, after two matches you’ve got another gypsum orb. Aptitude chests give them, you can make potions at your camp and kill lower mobs, and so on.

AGS better add 10 snipers to each chest
EDIT it’s sarcasm

They added snipers. It didn’t fix it. The only way AGS can stop solo runs of these is if they somehow decide they want to get rid of the rediculous mechanic of having a boss that drops loot and an elite chest next to them that drops loot. The loot would need to either all be on the boss or the chest directly tied to the boss kill in which case you can’t loot the chest if you didn’t get kill credit but they probably wont do that sicne a limited number of people get kill credit for a world boss and that would mean people not being able to open a chest who should of gotten credit and didnt.

Adding snipers didnt help because snipers can be range killed just fine and terrain causing resets on melee mobs is a big part of the game. You can’t kill things that cant hit you but they cant kill you either.

it would also be pretty unfair to remove this further when the vast majority of players used this to level expertise for four months since launch and then screw over the folks who are losing access to trains because of lack of interest in these POIs and double down by making it less not more solo friendly.

I never grouped to build my expertise. Did solo chest runs once a day and then earned gypsum when that released. It will be super easy in the next patch :+1:

You get Expertise not only from elite chest runs. Run non-elite zones in Myrkgard, run OPRs (from next patch), craft gear, craft gypsums, run dungeons, everything gives you Expertise, screw elite chest runs

Whats frustrating me the most is the pitycounter. You can find so much of an itemtype and not get an update (not even considering the broken shields). When I started I got head, chest, arm and legs relativly fast to 525 without gypsum but the feet stayed at 505 like forever. Same with some weapons.

Also the non elite chests in shattered mountain fall off to much in comparison with the elite chests. You can run them sometimes 4 times and not get a single upgrade.

You should be able to find regular Gen and Laz runs unless your server is dead, there are still lots of people still working on sub-600 expertise. On my server (Pluto) nobody really even charges for those runs anymore, they are usually free now.

There are also other solo gypsum runs you can do to get expertise - there is a super-relaxing, easy one I do in Ebonscale around the Skysong Crypt that can net me 4(or 5 if you like picking herbs) gypsum casts in about 45 minutes:

You chug the topaz potion and everything in the area you kill(mostly lvl 58-59) can drop topaz for one cast. The mobs are easy, you can round 4 or 5 up at a time and kill them all. If you are at 200 in tracking/skinning, then skinning all the the wolves and boars you kill should allow you to get an aptitude bump and another gypsum cast. You can solo farm Ivan (the boss at the church) for 3 obsidian gypsum and a third cast, and you will easily net 3 diamond gypsum just for killing stuff for a 4th cast. There are also chests and in the area you can harvest 4 of the 7 mats needed for making the topaz potion again, and you can sell(or use) the 1000s of iron hides you end up with. Only takes 45 minutes or an hour with travel time, 4 easy and reliable bumps and some crafting mats and gold in your pocket.

Lots of great information here. You probably know this, but take your gypsum to an outpost kiln. Create a gypsum orb and then use that to create a caste specific to the GS that you want to increase. This is better than chest runs that give random GS increases, often to weapons you will never use.

To obtain the gypsum you can OPR, mix up a Topaz Gypsum Attunement Potion and swill it down before killing 55+ mobs, run 60+ portals with a group and other PvE stuff mentioned in this thread.

On my server I see lots people recruiting to coruption run. Also farm your Laz/gen orb people are always willing to do it and it boost expertise really well.
The only gypsum that is hard to find is the one from arena.

I m solo player and my AVG gear score is 602. I started farming GS when the gypsum update as realesed.

So much help here I feel humbled, all great advice so thanks to everyone and their constructive support. I never knew there were so many options and I guess the thing that has held me back the most is my concentrating on gold being the only way to get reasonably higher level gear. In the meantime I’ve sent my old friend Flamebeard over to the game feedback section to see if they can make gold an option once again too, God help them if they don’t listen to reason, he’s a right dirty pirate lol. Honestly, thanks to everyone and I did my first solo run yesterday, netting me one expertise upgrade which gave me heart! Good golds n blessings upon you all :pirate_flag:

Well said. I have learned so much from the generous responses on this forum. There is so much more to the game than I ever expected.

Thats because they have different gearscore caps. As you get higher e pertise fewer places have a chance to drop bumps.

That may be but I was talking about expertise between 500 and 525. My record so far was back when I had an overall expertise of 510. 6 full runs of all non elite chests in shattered mountain for a single upgrade.

hes saying gypsum cast farming is the fastest way to get expertise to 600 for people such as yourself. There’s plenty of ways to upgrade if you look up any of the guides how to do so

There is a difference between possible and efficient. The solo route is not efficient at all, its simply possible. Fastest way is run SM, MYRK, MAL, IP, EP, AND SIRENS daily in a zerg. Opening every elite chest. Then making sure you get in 2 arenas, your 3 diamond bags, obsidian and topaz, portals gypsum. That will take 3-4 hours a day. You should get 3-5 avg expertise per day this way. Thats still 20-40 days of grinding expertise to get from 500 tp 600.

Understand only playing an hour or two a day will take quite awhile to get from 500 to 600. Really hasnt been a catchup mechanic added yet, was way worse before gypsum.
