Explain PVP scaling to me

Hi!

I would love it if someone could answer some of my questions below because it’s getting quite frustrating.

How does pvp damage work when looking at gear score and armor?

I’m around 617 gs, light armor, Bow/SnS/Spear/Rapier.

I play a lot of OPR and what is really frustrating me is my damage on other players vs the damage I receive.

For example , even against a lot of other light users I do such little damage but they could turn around and hit me for 2x 3x more.

It also looks like sometimes I hit them hard yet their health bar barely moves.

I thought by 617 gs I could maybe compete but does that only happen at 625?

I would assume it’s because of Shirking Fortification and Mortal Empowerment. The difference between having or not having stacked Shirking Fort is like night and day. Same with Mortal Empowerment

How much resilient and shirking fort are you running? How much con?

Sorry I should have said I’m 5/5 Resi , 200 con with food and 1 shirking Fort piece

There’s your answer. Only 1 Shirking Fort piece.

Gems in armor can also make a big difference to the amount of damage taken. If they have a lot of thrust gems and you are hitting with bow, the damage they take will be quite a bit less.

OPR has a lot of BS that fluffs numbers.

  • Battle bread: -15% damage taken, +15% damage dealt.
  • Baron: -15% damage taken, +20 hp/s regen.
  • Command Post: -9% damage taken, +9% damage dealt.

So worst case scenario, you’re fighting someone who’s taking +24% damage and receiving 39% less just off OPR buffs alone.

Then you’ve got mortal empowerment which provides up to +30% damage.

A lot of the “competitive OPR players” (whatever that means) will also be running powerful honing stones, gemstone dust, oakflesh balms, etc.

Careful, you gonna get a lot of “ORP” Players flexing and calling you a bad player to fix their bruised ego.

“Nooo you don’t understand, spamming rain of arrows on point for 30 minutes with the mortal empowerment amulet I spent 500k on is actually extremely skillful and the epitome of competitive PvP!!!”

617 and 625 has no difference, there’s a million reasons for this to happen

Perks - resilient mainly

Battle bread

Fortifies

Gemstone/oak flesh

Weaken on yourself

Suboptimal combination of passives
