What is your character name in New World: Hodeoten
What server/world did you experience your issue on: El Dorado
Describe the issue you are experiencing:
If you have 2 bags with the same “Burden” perk, you can swap one of them in and out of equipped slot to continuously reduce the weight of the affected items down to something less than 1.0.
I was checking to see if two bags with same burden stacked at all, and if they did, whether it was additively or multiplicatively.
What I found was that each time I swapped the 2nd bag out, the weight of the affected items would go up by a smaller than expected amount, and when i swapped it back in it would go down by the expected amount for the CURRENT weight of the items in bag.
Eventually, the weight of the skins in my bag got down to 0.2
This weird weight reduction persists even when pulling new items in from storage or putting them back into storage and pulling them back out (note the addition of the stack of thick hides here):
This persists through the login session. Logging out and back in sets everything back to the correct weights/weight reduction. Repeatable even after logging out and back in though.
Is this a bug or an exploit:
bug AND exploit
(if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay:
Seems wrong to be able to carry that much stuff. A “pro” gatherer could just have two bags of each burden type and start a session by swapping all of them in and out until everything weighs almost nothing and then never have to return to storage for the entire session and never risk getting encumbered.
(if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue:
Only by logging out and back in. Everything got returned to it’s “correct” weight.
(if a bug) Please include a screenshot or video of the issue that you have experienced:
Tried to inline the screenshots above. If it didn’t work, I can email.
What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced:
Have 3 bags equipped and 1 bag ready to swap in. 2 of the bags need to have the same “Burden” perk for weight reduction.
Have items affected by that weight reduction in your inventory with a sufficient weight to see the effect.
Continuously swap one of the duplicate “Burden” bags in and out of the equipped slot while leaving the other one with the same Burden equipped.
Eventually the weight of each stack of that item type in your inventory will get reduced to 0.1
Beat me to it. Can confirm this exploit exists. Wanted to point out that although I did not test armor/weapon weight reduction bags due to their price, it might be possible to bump your armor weight from heavy into light category, if it follows the same logic as the resource reduction.
Can confirm the same, only requires 2 bags with same weight reduction buff, removing either one and re-equipping it will reduce weight with each re-equip.
Edit - This may be display only. I went overweight (movement debuffed) without actually showing as overweight when this bug/exploit was active.
I also just experienced this. I was seeing how much i would reduce the weight, of the leather i had on me, as my other bag could hold a little more. Then after swapping back and forth a couple of times, i noticed it
I can also confirm this with both Prospector’s Burden and Tanner’s Burden.
I was trying to see which of the bags i had was best when i saw that if i kept changing the bags the weight numbers of both the material weight and my total weight kept going down.
But if you put it in the storage, the storage box will show the original numbers and somehow go over its limit.
So, bit of a tangent, but how can we be sure this also doesn’t apply to other perks like harvesting luck if I had two near identical pieces with that perk and just swapped them could i potentially obtain infinite luck? What are some other issues that could arise out of such a simple thing? Tanner’s sets, luck sets, weapon perks?
Its just a visual bug y’all. When you get overweight it still slows you down like normally. It might say 70/800 weight but u still get the exact same encumbered debuff.
Also as for fast traveling it will show a low price but it is also a visual bug. When you try and fast travel you will get error message if azoth is low or it will spend a fat amount of azoth for the true weight.
Just replicated that bug also, I had 0.01 weight for 1k t3 leather, and when I fast traveled it showed 130 azoth when it really took about 260 from restless to windsward.
It’s just a visual bug, I’ve tested it out several times - it even will visually show a difference in the cost of azoth to teleport somewhere. Interestingly though, if you actually teleport there, it not only costs you the original price (thus confirming the weight reduction is only a visual bug), it weirdly enough costs 12 more azoth. Not sure where the extra 12 came from but yeah, definitely a visual bug in terms of teleporting and azoth costs. That’s the only thing I tested though.
Well, that is even worse, I have not noticed this happen but will swap bags depending on what is heaviest, If I am getting charged more Azoth than it shows that is just dishonest
