Faction Missions interface Optional Enhancements v2.0

Hey folks, here is another thread for ideas to enhance and improve the faction missions GUI. This thread kinda requires me to make edited images to show what I am talking about, so bare with me…

Right now, and all the way back to launch, all players have only been able to leave town with a max of three factions missions at a time, for either playstyle, and while the PvP folks could leave town with a maximum of 6 faction missions at once, they would have to take 3 of each. This is unfair to PvE players, as they can never get 6 missions at once, no matter what, so fixing this would need something like, PvP players can only pick one type of mission at a time, and thus also be allowed just there missions per trip to and from town (I would hate to see this method used, as why force players loose the option to take more than three missions at once, thus wasting the players time), and would much rather have the GUI simply allow any player to pick 6 factions missions at once, thus making both playstyles have equal access to the FM of their own particular interest.

One way I would make this change, is simply put a three stage switch into the GUI, where a player could select the following three options:

  1. All PvP
  2. Mixed
  3. All PvE

This way, the current graphical user interface would represent the middle setting, and moving the switch either left or right, would allow for the mission selection to be all one type of mission.

I would see this as a balance/QoL improvement to be done ASAP, to level the playing field and improve player satisfaction.

Now first off, what if this were what players saw in the GUI for the faction missions instead of current?

If you cannot see the difference, here is a close up:

switch
This zoomed in and edited image is my attempt (however crude and makeshift it may be), to show a notional 3 position switch, where a player can select what playstyle of faction missions the RNG would be allowed to generate, showing the center position, which is unlabeled and is to be taken as the (current only option) of mixed missions, and I invite folks to picture the purple box as a moveable button, and it being able to be ‘set’ to the left - center - right positions, to allow a player a simple and easy way to get the kind of missions they are interested in.

As the game already allows PvP playstyle characters to leave town with 6 FM, the game engine will not have any trouble being made to allow ALL players to leave town with 6 FM, and the only difference would be PvE players would not be being discriminated against any longer, and players of either playstyle could have all their faction missions of the type they currently desire to play.

More changes in the next post.

Let me know what you think of this idea.

Now, if we got the improvement in the first post implemented, so folks could all get 6 faction missions per trip to town, as soon as they can go on faction missions, and have just the type of missions they want, then I would suggest some additional tweaking of the way a character gets to improve their gameplay experience.

When you gain a level within your faction, you unlock some items to be able to buy in the faction store, and that is just about the only thing you get other than an increase in your faction token cap.

Some further improvements I would love to see put in:

When you get your first promotion, allow setting filters in the GUI, to customize and improve your playing experience.

Things like:

  1. The ability to turn OFF any faction mission being generated by RNG, that is in an expedition, so that you can avoid wasting time getting a mission that you can only do as a 3+ member group. Right now, many times when I just want to grind my faction tokens, I have to leave town with less than 3 missions, or else have to spend time in town to re-roll missions and hope I don’t get one that requires a tuning orb/3+ player group. If this setting were implemented, then folks could just turn it on or off at their discretion, and eliminate the needless time wasting that is currently in the game.

  2. The ability to turn OFF any faction mission being generated by RNG, that is in an Elite zone, so that they only get missions that they can handle on their own, and in a timely manner. This filter could be turned on/off at will, so if you just wanted to run a few sets of faction missions before work/bed, you could just nail them quickly and get the tokens.

  3. The ability to earn the right to have more faction missions than 6, once you have gotten promoted enough to warrant being able to handle more than the initial limit of 6 missions at a time.

  4. The ability, once you have attained the last rank, to get ALL of the faction missions in a given territory, all at once!

The faction system is geared around PvP. That’s what it’s there for. It’s not unfair that non pvp players don’t receive full benefits. PvE players are being thrown an extra bone by just being able to take what little advantage they can from a dynamic not designed for them.

If you’re a PvE player, all you need from the faction vendors is the ability to purchase crafting components. Which is easy peasy. 3 quick missions and you get exactly what you need. The rest of the shop items are only good for PvP, and suck rocks in PvE. So what more do you want?

If you’re a PvE player, open your map and you’ll never see a shortage of gold diamond icons pointing out level relevant quests.

This is true, but I would also point out, that the Faction missions GUI is hardly the only part of the game that focuses more on the PvP playstyle in new world, at the expense of (and to the disadvantage of) the rest of the paying customers that enjoy PvE content. In this particular thread, I’m posting (and looking specifically for responses about) ideas to improve this (Potentially Great) game. New World will never reach it’s potential, if it continues to offer flawed thinking in it’s game design.

Remember, that although this game was originally designed as a PvP only game, it was then (Wisely) redesigned and marketed as, a game where paying customers could choose two different playstyles, either PvP or PvE, and when I read that I could play the entire game and NEVER have to play PvP, that is what got me to purchase this game.

Had their advertisement stated that paying customers that enjoy PvE gaming would be treated as the proverbial “Red haired, freckle faced stepchild” and second class citizen, that purchase would never have been made, as PvP holds no interest for me whatsoever.

That being said, I think one thing that all players CAN agree on, is that from launch to release, NW has yet to live up to it’s potential.

My purpose in creating this thread is to share ideas that would enhance ALL New World players gaming experience, and in a way that makes the game better the longer/further you advance within it.

Um, sorry fellow, but yes it most certainly is unfair that one demographic of the playerbase (and paying customers I might add) is in fact not receiving their moneys worth, because of such thinking as you are guilty of expressing here in your post. ALL paying customers deserve equality regardless of which playstyle they prefer. Thinking any other way about this issue is both wrong headed, and a bad business decision on the part of AGS, and reflects badly upon Amazon’s good name.

Again, had AGS wanted to tell folks that unless they were willing to be discriminated against (based upon their unwillingness to play PvP content), rather than claim that anyone could play the game (with implied equality) by enjoying this (Potentially Great) game in either playstyle, folks that have no interest in PvP would never have made the purchase, and folks like me (and the vast majority of those that bought and played NW), would not be waiting for Amazon to realize just how bad such thinking is, and that the True potential of this game isn’t in catering to selfish PvP’ers, but rather than having something to offer ALL the paying customers.

So no, the game that I purchased is not the PvP’ers wet dream, but rather something that is SUPPOSED to be enjoyable by all the paying customers, not just those that want to kill another computer gamers little digital toons. :grinning:

Some truth in this, as far as that goes, but then again, it misses the point of this whole thread, which is about making the GUI offer a more rewarding experience, for the players that actually play through the content.

Um, exactly what I posted in the Original Post and the follow up post in this thread.

Do you have any actual thoughts on the inclusion of a switch (as I attempted to show in the OP), so folks could play this game and leave town, even at low level, with six faction missions (of whatever nature they prefer) to do. Wouldn’t you yourself like to be able to get 6 pvp faction missions at once? Do you think that most players would want to have such an option? Do you have a better way to suggest going about getting this into the game?

You asked “So, what more do you want”?

I want my character to be able to earn a way to filter out missions that require 3 or more characters to be able to do them. It is very frustrating having a friend that I am leveling up and adventuring with, and we keep getting missions that require a third player to even start, and then being forced to wait for the faction interface to once again use the existing RNG to offer a new mission, that we both can do. Frequently, we have to either wait more than once to get all three missions that we both can do, or have to go out without even three missions. This wastes time, which is always the thing in shortest supply, and should be improved by some means…

I want to be able to to earn MORE than 6 missions at a time as I advance within whatever faction I am in, so that I can do more adventuring, and less travel, with my limited gaming time, which is, I believe of interest to most other gamers in NW, no matter what playstyle they enjoy.

I want to eventually be able to earn the right to have ALL the faction missions (excluding any that I optionally exclude with the filters), so that, at high levels, I can do massive faction mission runs.

Right now, I am doing (or trying to do) 3 faction missions in all 6 of the started areas, and while I am having a blast doing this, the lack of the three setting switch, which would allow me to get 6 PvE faction missions when set to PvE cuts my efforts in half from what they could (and really, should) be, and the lack of filters forces me to either go out without my full three missions, or waste time trying to get the dang RNG to give me the kind of missions I want.

Now, let us continue, and remember that in this thread, we are here to discuss the proposed ideas for making the Faction Mission GUI better, thanks in advance!

I really like your idea. It would be great if you took some notes from here AGS

Thank you much! Can I get a bit of feedback on the ideas, as far as how to perhaps better present them? Do I need to make other images, showing a notional set of filters, to give folks an idea of the options I’m talking about?

I love immersive games, that allow players to have their characters make choices and earn the right to better implementation.

I have another current thread, that deals with ideas to help out posters looking to seriously publish content for improving the game.

Here it is.

Hope to see your interest there @mixkiki97
