I remember Zork! It’s still available if you look for it.
I loved Zork so much. I also got utterly lost in the Infocom version of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
I hate that system. I’ve read that it’s a built in part of the forum software, and that it can be changed but they won’t bother to do it. What I’m wondering is why they would choose such a dreadful forum software in the first place? It’s really bad. And who has the right to tell me I can’t “like” something, know what I mean?

I hear you and agree with many of your complaints. But here are a couple of things I’ve noticed.
If go go to GOG.com “Good Old Games” you will find all 4 or 5 of the zorks. By downloading them from there “After buying of course” it will already be set for DOS BOX Emulator so will play in Windows 10.
I would also suggest looking at
Wing commander “Story line solo player space sim”, "The first three were good for their time but you may find it a bit off due to graphics. Wing Commander 4 and 5 would probably be more up your ally graphics and interface wise.
Another is DarkStar one and then of course we move into the X universe series.
NOW if Space sims are not your thing and you liked the old Yugio / pokemon / Magic the gathering style card games then Wizard 101 may be to your liking. Runs along the same process but is multiplayer set up un a MMO style format that also allows dueling between players as well as player team work to complete more difficult quest. I think that may be found on steam possibly.
