Farming Chests vs Buying in TP

I hit 60 and noticed there was gear 590+ in the trading post for a couple hundred gold. I could probably fully gear 580-590 GS with about 1-2k gold.

Is there a reason people grind chests for HWM / gear rather than just buy it from the trading post at this point? Am I missing something?

You will need to level up your watermark up to 600 anyways to drop legendaries (as well as to be ready for next extension when they will put max gear to 620/650). Watermark doesn’t go up with what you buy, only with your drops. You will also need to open tons of chests to drop Trophy artifacts to put in your houses, as well as gather crafting materials if you do crafting (Flux, Sandpaper, etc).

But, yes, you are right, you can perfectly equip yourself with 590 gs as soon you reach 60 for little money. Which is a big problem for crafters as they cannot compete with that and can’t virtually sell anything.

So go for it  It will make the grind easier!

Your watermark doesn’t go up from purchased or traded gear.

You can easily find 590-600 gear on the trading post.

Finding 590-600 gear with the correct perks is not going to be as easy, easily find weapons in dungeons, armor is something you’re going to have to get very lucky with or spending lots of gold

you dont need watermark unless you are a pver. I’m gs 598, only 1 piece is not legendary. Meanwhile my watermark is 503-505

The watermark system is a complete waste of time since it is needed at least a few weeks of hardcore farming to even get from 500 to 600 on all slots and then it is needed to farm even more to hopefully get lucky with a single piece that might even have any decent stats. The watermark system also sucks bigtime for any new weapon that is released because the players need to farm once again the watermark for that slot.

If you consider how much gold you can farm instead of going for the watermark system then you will realize that you will be able to cap on gold and buy absolutely any gear that might be listed at the trading post. Guaranteed.

And it also makes no sense to farm watermark gear score for some supposedly next expansion that we never know when it will might come because that expansion itself will have bind on equip gear that will be available to buy from the trading post.

Without the cheap BoE’s many more would have walked by now I suspect.

Thanks for the information, didn’t know that’s how it worked.

By hardcore farming u mean hour/hour and half every day doing chest runs?

Everyone thinks they can buy high GS items on TP. Soooo the question is “ where are the items come from? If no one is going to farm watermark? “
It’s not wasted. It’s legit!
Btw, if you’re a crafter/blacksmith of your team, you would know how hard and expensive to craft a 590+ GS item.

This is actually sad because you are trying to convince others that it is worth to do the watermark farm which is a hellish experience just because you want to do it but since you are loving it so much then i hope that you are enjoying those new tentacles that were added recently for certain routes.

Also, there are named items with very nice stats and gear score that cost as low as 5k to craft with Nothingness being the prime example for the Void Gauntlet which is a 600GS legendary item.

People who skip watermark grinding now are going to be scrambling to catch up whenever an x-pac drops.

Better to just do it now.

The whole Watermark system is just plain stupid.

Just make Epics and Legendary fucking rare named drops like in e.g. the golden era of Classic.
There is no reason as why you have to farm a shit ton of gea r(of which not even 1 has to be a real upgrade stats wise) only to get to that 600 and hope you dont get a completely waste of attribute points on that drop.

And make crafters able to set all perks. But make it insanely expensive.
1 perk normal cost,
2nd perk 3 times the standard costs,
3rd perk 6 times the standard costs, and so on

well u will be able to make money trough gear then

People who grinded water mark early on made LOTS of money selling those high GS gears especially the ones with Luck and Gathering Luck. Right now people are still farming for watermark because there are a lot of gears drop by Boss/Elites that have chance to drop really good legendary 600 GS. A lot of them are not tradable. And the tradable ones can still be sold for hundreds to thousands of golds if stats are right.

I’m a crafter myself with ability to craft 595-600 armors. Guess what? All my 600 gears except for one are all bought from watermark farmers. It is so hard to craft the right stats with right perk. I spent so much to craft one and usually not be able to sell for the cost of crafting.

To tell you the truth most of the BiS is easily droped but it’s bound on pickup. It’s hard to get the BiS gear from the market because it most likely goes to the person who got the drop, then their griends, then the guild. All that before it finally hits the market which will be very expensive.

imo HWM farm ruined a lol of crafters profit except for jewelry because jewelry watermark is super hard to farm

I’m not convincing anyone to farm watermark. I’m just telling it’s legit.

There are choices for everyone, bro. You can choose other ways to earn gold and buy gears from watermark farmers or you can be a watermark farmer. It’s up to your goal/purpose to play the game.

The named weapons have static stats are nice and cheap as you said, but there are few tradable 600 gs weapons have “ nice stats “. I barely agree about that because the most nice static stats weapons from crafting are BoP. Have you ever noticed that?

And about armors, have you seen any armor gears had good stats by crafting? Even voidbent set’s stat is “ decent “. How many time you must try to craft a “ barely perfect “ armor gear? Do you have idea that how the mats cost?

Please tell me that you’re wearing few high GS pcs from TP!! If it’s right, tell me where were those high GS come from for you to buy xD!! Unless you’re wearing voidbent xD

It is all about demand/supply bro. And again, i’m not convincing anyone to go farm watermark. Don’t get me wrong.

The watermark system requires up to 100 hours of farming just to get the gearscore at 600 for every slot and then it requires even more farming to hopefully find any item with decent stats which is hard since there are so many items with so many stats and perks in this game.

This game is actually still somewhat playable exactly because the gathering and crafting are are still viable which might not be the case in the future if the nerfs will keep coming over and over again.

It is possible that we might headed towards the path at where the items above 620 gear score will be obtainable only from the watermark system which will be obviously quite dramatic save for the certain few that even bothered with the massive grind.

Then again… the talk on market is that this game can still survive with 2k players if they are devoted so good luck with that.
