Feature Request: Cross-World OPR

We’ve learned so much from other games that had battleground-like experiences. Making Cross-Realm OPR would expand the player pool of people playing, and potentially even the playing field. Current OPR’s are against the same people over and over.

Mixing it up and opening OPR to be inclusive of other Worlds would make queue times easier and add more variety in opponents.

Disclaimer: I’d love cross-server PvP.

HOWEVER, I’ve found the opposite to be true. On Orofena pre-merge, we had fairly consistent competitive play in OPR, with very few blow-out matches.

Post merge, as the largest NA server, we now have a significantly larger pool of players and now have vastly more polarizing OPR results, which typically end in the ballpark of 1000: ≤400

Recent examples, all different games from the same evening.

Obviously, both Ohonoo and Orofena natives can claim it’s because was better overall at PvP. I postulate this is due to the “average” player’s performance in OPR being lower than we’d expect, and diluting that pool will continue to bring down the “average”, which lends more power to high impact players and premade groups.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about cross-server PvP. The bigger the sample size, the more accurate the data, so when people come in here claiming they’re the best, it becomes a lot easier to sift through the garbage  I just think the “average” player in the current community is a pretty low performer by most standards. I could go on a rant for days about why this is and how AGS has deliberately facilitated this, but I digress.

The majority of the real players gave up months ago. So your observation of the average player being a low performer seems accurate. I would classify myself as a low performer… In OPR, I’d much rather chop down trees and set up resources in the forts… then just go balls to the wall in PvP combat looking for top stats.

But I love base building, and that’s about as close as I can get to it in this game.

You’ll find I basically never make top 5, but that’s because scoring in OPR is based off things like damage and healing more than any actual strategy based gameplay. There’s not a lot of points to be gained from gathering resources and efficiently killing people. It’s like the game emphasizes zerging over strategic gameplay.

Still, back-capping a fort with 1000+ materials and holding it off against 5-10 people on your own is a sweet, sweet victory that no scoreboard can ever touch. It’s extra funny when they don’t even bother attacking both doors at once, using a summoning stone, or kegs.
