Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet changes on PTR are awful

They can be but still super niche role. My faction stopped allowing muskets now since mages can do more if on attack or will just have melee dps dive their siege on defense

theres already a greater rof on the musket on PTR. this is the problem with no fucking patch notes.

was there, the musket and a few others are still on my test list, spent the night running through what the meta is gonna become and how VG will play a role in it as well as the future for mages so still sorting through the heap of work AGS lefts the testers. No complaints on that end though as I think its fun being able to theory craft when the changes are healthy, gives you something to be excited about

Dam, haven’t had that happen on my two servers yet, one being low pop (basically dead now) and the other being high end med pop.

I like how you ignored the bug that makes Pillar hit anywhere from 2 to 6 times instead of just one, depending on how much the target attacks / moves during the lingering animation. This bug also causes Pillar to fully reset when using Refreshing Pillar of Fire instead of only getting ~39% cooldown reduction for 3 targets.

This is literally the only reason why Pillar is even viable at all. Without the bug it hits less than a heavy attack and is harder to hit than a heavy attack, meaning that you would only ever use it in an AoE situation.

AGS should focus on fixing game-breaking bugs, that affect nearly all of our meta skills right now and then try to balance things.

Also, Empowering Fireball doesn’t even work. How can you balance a weapon with perks that literally don’t work?

Edit: I completely disagree that FS damage should be nerfed. The only thing the weapon brings is damage. FS is a complete glass canon - it has 0 CC and extremely limited defensive passives.

If damage is to be nerfed then:

  1. adjust heavy attack hitbox. This thing hits like a truck on light armor and is very easy to land
  2. give FS reliable CC options instead of worthless garbage like mana refund per target hit on half of the spells. FS doesn’t care about mana if played correctly. Having a stagger on Pillar would make this awful thing worth using once all the bugs have been fixed, however.

If FS damage gets nerfed without any compensation in other aspects of the weapon, then the weapon will become entirely pointless.

Funny you say this, because the other person that was saying Bow beats FS was saying that the Bow did better at close ranges.

As someone who plays FS and IG - the current damage output in PvE and PvP, especially in War and OPR is absolutely insane. The reality is the FS and IG are extremely powerful multi-target weapons that are able to match other weapons in a 1v1 scenario,while no weapon beside IG or FS can come close to the amount of reliable, ranged multi target damage they can dish out.

ice glvoe is good, fire staff is not, it does nothing, i dont use it, its been used against me plenty, its worthless. This seems like a hammer user trying to divert attention to get a couple extra weeks of slamming left click.

Tbh FS usually beats IG unless the IG user catches the FS in a root in my experience. That doesn’t say much about the overall usefulness of FS tho. CC is king in most content and FS has none.

Your definition of balance is so bad if you think just because mages are played a lot they deserve to be nerfed.
You are telling me that Greataxe (literally the most played weapon since beta, and honestly the least skill to reward weapon) deserved a buff and warhammer is okay? Mages already struggle if any melee class gets close, saying lets nerf it to the ground because mages got to play the game 1 week is kinda ridiculous.
If this patch goes live even more people are going to leave the game guaranteed.

This is shameful, I-m fire staff, ice user and we got massacrated by axe guys with mediocre skills, you simply cannot run from axe and 2 -3 swings you are dead even in medium armour … at the same time his heavy armour is enough for him to just laugh and charge even not need to evade fireballs in face … 2-3 swings against need to hit him 10 times is balanced?
If fire was doing too much damage it was because SINGLE ability was bugged and they just used bugged data to nerf all over the board.

WAKE UP MORONS it is not a boss who give order to nerf in office looking at overall mage damage where people abuse bug, as reason to order you to lower mage damage. If you add all effects fire mage that is already bad just get worse …

I don’t think this comes on the expense of the other, there are separate teams for separate tasks, fixing bugs and tuning/tweaking/reworking/content update are not all done by the same person or people, they are multiple teams working for multiple purposes.

you are wrong there, at the same time, although not in the same sentence, i advocate for lower damage mitigation, which would make ranged in general stronger. you can’t go out and say “but in 1v1 axe kills magic easy”, if you seen the wars then you know that it’s the melees that get massacred by IG’s. they can’t even move properly because of all the slows and roots.

i am a musket guy, very weak atm, and am not complaining as much as you.

Putting the burn on light attack in the tree with crit and heavy perks just shows this is a trolling sadistic dev that hates fire staves. There really is no other explanation for doing such a stupid thing.

Nothing but great axe and hammer spam in OPR but you prioritised nerfing fire staff.

Except not everyone is using it. I will say that some nerfs are for sure needed. But the changes to Fire and Ice are absolutely awful.

These changes have confirmed that NW developers 100% prioritize GA/Hammer.
The two weapons are already so ridiculously and oppressively overwhelming.

New World developers are telling casters to fuck off and play another game, and you know what? I think I will.
