Fire Staff changes: deep analysis

This. Fireball and it’s perk are dead as doorknobs if this change goes through.
There’s literally no reason to use it over pillar or meteor shower now since it has zero uptime half a boss fight, and had it’s AOE removed in exchange for…

A single stack of Smolder on impact?

More like fire staff nerf

New World is an unofficial version of Glorious Invictus. Of course, these Devs will keep Fire Staff in the gutter. Anyone who feels the need to play a mage in a MMORPG should completely just overlook New World. As New World completely overlooks them.

Griefing xD

Idk man this nerf to incinerate was soooo unnecessary. If they gut it’s damage it should have a stun. Now it’s just obsolete.

this exactly

damage OR utility, isnt this the new rule?

new incinerate has none of that. not even self sustain or whatever

last perk could be a STUN or ROOT, and if you pick it you lose the 2nd hit. That would be ok I guess. You choose damage or utility

bump

these changes cant go live. waste of an opportunity to really fix the weapon

Let’s not get too harsh. PoF is decent now and Reheat (one of if not the most useless passive) got changed into something usable, burn stacks on heavies are also a nice addition, burn stack upon dodging, AoE for heavies is nice for PvE.

I will take this rework over what Firestaff is now on live.

POF range is the same. Damage was reduced.
can you stand and spam skills in wars now? nope
why will you be able to that from now on?

I definitely feel the same way after testing the changes. I was hoping that they would finally add some utility to the weapon to make it useful in more scenarios.

While the weapon overall obviously feels better and stronger, Burn Out is still a terrible escape tool, Incinerate got heavily nerfed overall and stripped of it‘s animation cancel, Fireball got nerfed significantly, and besides being able to stack more burns now and having slightly higher dps, we still have no slow, no stagger, no weaken, no rend, no party buff, no exhaust or any other useful debuffs that would make the gameplay more diverse.

For me personally they definitely missed the mark with this one. It‘s just the completely wrong path to buff Firestaff in my opinion.

Base damage is reduced by 5% only but radius got increased, animation and cast time is so much faster. Also with first perk it does 5% more damage for every burn stack on the target.

So basically you run Fireball as an opener now then apply as many burn stacks as you can and nuke with PoF which now is hard to dodge.

It’s alright. Obviously it’s still no large scale material but it’s better than it is now.

this. exactly

in all honesty, the changes mentioned in this thread are WAY better than PTR atm

@dev can anyone check this pls?

thanks

Rend would be a bit too much considerin how much dps FS has now, but weaken caused by burning should be a thing imo.

when the weapon has ZERO utility whatsoever, its damage must be way way way good to compensate

its not the case. if you think that with the SHORT range on meaningful spells you will be able to stand and cast, good luck.

It’s not what I said tho.

My point is that PoF will be the main source of dps and I still think it’s overall a buff rather than a nerf.

And yes incinerate nerf was unnecessary and yes still no meaningful utility but its better than live server Firestaff either way.

PoF and AAs
40% extra damage on full health targets was good. PIllar aa fireball. That is GONE.

Wait… are people really complaining about Firestaff? hahahaha
There’s just no way to please everyone lol

I wouldnt say complain, but rather take a constructive approach and pointing the bads of the patch and what should have been done instead

fire staff has been forgotten for months, completely out of the war meta.

I find it hard that any devs have more hours as a fire mage than I have - and most of ppl agreeing here - so yeah, we are pointing out stuff that needs addressing OR the fire staff will remain on the bench

Was it?

Now it’s Fireball AA Pillar. I don’t see an issue here.

The difference is maybe 30-35% less damage

You’re exaggerating my man and also excluding the fact how convenient PoF is to use after the frame changes It’s near instant pop, so much easier to land especially if you are on the move.

how do you escape people now?
what kind of haste/sustain buffs we got?

which build are you gonna run in wars, please enlighten me. meteor pillar fireball? you take 1 hit, you cant dodge, you switch to ice gauntlet and hope people come to your aid while you are entombed?

wars are not just damage. Its a combination damage, utility, survivability

FS has damage. Zero utility. Zero survivability.

They changed everything except what we truly needed

With these changes, they losing the opportunity to make it a solid weapon
