Fire Staff is broken: Please Fix

Fire Staff feels broken. I have been patiently waiting for the fire staff to be fixed and it feels as though the issues are not being worked. I am not talking about frost here guys. So, if you are crying those casters are OP then you are playing the wrong setup. Melee is very strong against casters especially if geared correctly.

Broken Abilities

Let it Burn: (Whenever burn deals damage, gain 10% Fortify for 2s.) This ability does not properly proc. Sometimes I have to cast multiple burns on the target in order to see it proc. For example: I have the passive ability (Watch it Burn). I have to hit my target twice with a light attack for the game to register a burn on the target. (Burn out) causes damage to my target but does not proc Fortify. There are other examples of this ability not working that needs to be worked out.

Clear Casting: (If you haven’t taken damage in the last 3s, deal 10% more damage.) I have to intentionally take damage for the game to realize I have this perk, then after 3 seconds I get the buff. If I open up my map or inventory the buff goes away. If I mine or gather the buff goes away. In order to get this buff again I have to take more damage. The point of this ability is that I am not suppose to take damage to receive it….

Spell Strike: Hopefully Pillar of Fire, Fire Ball, and Incinerate are all included in that fix because not being able to use my abilities along with my passives being broken is making this build hard to play!

Caster Animation: Burnout gets interrupted all the time and goes on cooldown. A great axe player can fling their axe instantaneously, but as a fire staff user I get animations that make us predictable. GREAT AXE CHARGE IS INSTANT! Click the button and off you go “Zero Animation”! BURN OUT, not only has a one second animation, but is easily countered with a player that knows what they are doing. This makes survivability tough for us to get away.

On a different note: ARMOR

Once players hit 200 outfitting New World rewards all players except casters! The game feels like it favors melee 100%. Casters feel like the red headed step child! Voidbent Heavy, great constitution for tanks. Voidbent Medium, great for dexterity builds. Voidbent light, great for strength builds. Where the heck is the intelligence and focus gear? You are giving every play style in the game a guaranteed 600 armor set except us casters. These sets also destroy the damage output of us casters. My average hits are about 1500 on medium armor players, and about 700 for heavy armor players. I went light armor for that 20% more damage, but the armor mitigation on these 600 gear score pieces, make it extremely hard to be competitive in pvp. I choose light armor so I accept those arrows that crit me for 6k damage. At least let me do some damage back… I use the ice gauntlet as well, but the damage mitigation is the same with that weapon. That weapon just has increased survivability if used correctly… From my readings resilience is the problem to some of these issues, but does not excuse the fact that us casters are over looked with the armor sets.

I am having issues with pillar of fire only doing dmg 50% of the time and 75% of the time the first one goes off at my feet.

Do you use clear casting or let it burn passives? I can not seem to get those to work properly. Pillar hits about 50% of the time. Incinerate missed every time I used it. After a half a dozen attempts on trying to get it to work I respected back to pillar. Fire Ball seems to hit about 90% of the time. The hit box on fireball is decent, but if someone jumps while the hit lands it misses, actually jumps, not a dodge. For an AOE spell that does not make sense to me. Hopefully they fix these.

Already wrote something about this almost a week ago. I’ve tried to get an answer or an estimated timeframe but didn’t get any reply.

Both pillar and incinerate are bugged for me and only hit under very specific conditions. Basically feels like no matter what I do I only have 2 abilities with fire staff now.

Yeah, I have been patiently waiting. I played hatchet since beta and loved it. Only reason I swapped to caster was for grouping. We kept pinning out tank with the amount of melee. I have a love hate relationship with the fire staff and ice gauntlet. They have so much potential. I just hate that some of these issues are not on their known problems that they are working on addressing. So why not blow up the forums in hopes that other players share their experiences to get a developers attention in hopes to get these fixed.

I am so glad I am not the only one. I thought I was doing something wrong but can’t seem to figure out what is causing it to cast on me. It also definitely doesn’t damage a lot of the time, even when I am 100% I have it directly on the mob.

The 1.0.5 patch broke pillar of fire. the delay added on quickcasting it destroys it for legitimate players

But that delay is there since weeks before? It’s nothing 1.0.5 brought into the game.

after 1.0.5 there’s a delay of like 0.3seconds after you press the ability to even be able to place it. yes it’s something they added to combat the rapid firing macros. before this patch you could doubleclick the ability to quickly cast it, that doesnt work anymore

Fire staff still needs a lot of love. Not only is that half a second delay annoying, anyone dodging around inside of that spell circle TAKE NO DAMAGE! I get that dodge is suppose to evade damage, but if you are inside my hitbox dodging, you should still take damage. If I am dodging around am melee player I am not able to negate damage. I still get my butt kicked. Not only do they need to fix that delay, but need to fix the evade bug too. The rapid fire was from people being able to equip two identical weapons and swapping between them. They were supposed to make it so that they could not do that eliminating rapid fire. Fire Staff is still broken as you know what… Would be nice for a developer to come in here and see how everyone is on the same page about fire staff still being broken is.

when the fire staff is sheathed and you cast pillar it casts at your feet. if you have it in your hands first you wont have this problem. Annoying bug

Don’t confuse dps with all melee. The game favors dps players … melee or not.

Every scoring system rewards dps only. The kill credit system rewards dps only. The only thing that matters is dps.

I find it difficult to take seriously the complaints of dps players. Try being a tank or healer for a while, then we can talk about your dps.

The issue with fire staff is its ridiculous bad skill design. I mean, a fireball so badly designed, even in Diablo 2 20 years ago it still looks better? The animations are ugly as hell. i never have the feeling of playing a fire build at all.

Hey Walsingham, I should have worded it as non caster weapon. I played all the melee/dps classes before venturing into caster. From my experience it feels as though the game is weighted heavily on dps/melee/non caster weapons (hatchet, rapier, great axe, hammer, spear) Most abilities within these have little to no animation, the animations are so quick that you rarely miss your target. The hitbox on those melee weapons are greatly developed as well. If a player is within my hitbox on a melee weapon it hit 100% of the time. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the fire staff and enjoy playing it but there are a lot more bugs with the caster weapons than there are with all the other weapons. As patches come to light I am sure more bugs will arise that I am not familiar with, but the point of this post was to hopefuly shed some light on the problems of the fire staff with a developer checking in on the concerns of us players. I am not looking to bash anyone or any weapons. I just want balance. I know that word of balance is going to strike some arguements so take that wording how you will. Anyone playing fire staff knows the pains and how broken it still is. This 1.0.5 fix gave us a hit box with what feels like a half second delay. We are casters getting a global delay. If that is the case then give all players the same delay and you will see the frustrations of the weapon.

Range of my spell casting is about 50 meters from my testing. I don’t know what the range on bow and muskets are, but they are greater than 50 meters. I get shot from so far away that I cant see who is shooting me. I don’t really care about this, but weighted non-caster for ranged.

Anyone that has played the fire staff will tell you that the animations are so long that you are interrupted more so than landing them unless you are casting from afar. Those inside of my hitbox can easily avoid the damage from a simple dodge. The fire staff is broken. We can not base casters only off of the frost gauntlet either. If you want to go into detail about the ice gauntlet then you will know that wind chill is a joke, Ice spikes is a joke, and ice pylon is a joke. That is why 99% of ice gauntlets use ice storm, ice shower, and entombed. They are the only practical abilities the glove offers.

Those taking damage from the fire staff do not see the amount of work we are putting into landing those hits. All you see is the damage of a glass cannon as you take damage and feel as though we are OP. Fluency with the caster is what anyone on here is looking for. When I played melee I felt fluent, when I swapped to caster I feel clunky.
