Ice spikes is hardcore op. I’ve been 1 shot by it on the PTR. People are really overreacting here with the IG and FS “nerfs”…
you do know they do 3k per hit right. Your 1k average flamethrower takes at least 10 seconds to kill someone with 10-12k hp. They kill you in 3 swings. Not to mention they use reap and just stagger you. You dead.
See, the nice thing about flamethrower is that it has no CD. So I can dodge roll and not get staggered by reap then go back to burning them alive. Also, I said 800-1.2k WITHOUT burning stacks. That adds another 400 dmg per .25 seconds at 10 stacks. With oblivion’s 300 dmg per second ticks. It takes about 4 seconds to kill someone with 12k hp.
Have to realize that healing was nerfed by 20%, so it’s that much easier to kill people - in addition flamethrower was massively bugged, and it’s possible to craft 600 GS staves now. Void gauntlet as a secondary also gives an easy means to get +20% damage from oblivion, and close range you can get even more
Fire staff was still top DPS in my war tonight.
Flamethrower is the only fire skill worth a crap right now. Unfortunately you have to be in melee range to use it. Which means Firestaff + Heavy Armor. Effective and boring.
Please duel someone and record it. Share your glorious burning of these axe players.

I think it’s really only good if you can get a group of 5 running flamethrowers and lifestaffs/void. Concentrated fire will melt people but in 1 v 1, flamethrower means you’ll get eaten alive by melees.
Or, you know, you could actually try it yourself and see what I’m talking about without making me wait for AGS to fix their server code and bring Calnogor back up.

Damage stats are horribly misleading, especially in wars.
An AOE spell can easily hit 5+ people standing on point. Even if the spell is weak it still racks up the damage numbers. And Firestaff is pretty much entirely AOE. The problem is, most of that damage is simply erased by a single AOE heal. Crits were one of the few things that helped add some burst damage to break through and they nerfed that hard.
Yea agreed, not in 1v1. You need at least a small skirmish so you can stand back and hose people down while at least a melee guy or two hold agro. I used it in OPR and it worked rather well. What is nice is it builds up so people don’t realize they are in trouble until it is too late, which helps in securing kills.

Yup exactly. It’s a fun build build for sure but not as OP as it sounds without a team to back it.

Agreed. They nerfed Magic Users to the dirt. Along with the insane damage reduction all around every weapon skill for fire and Ice, they also nerfed casting speed. Magic Users got wrecked. Pretty heartbreaking honestly.
Empowered Fireball perk is bugged AFAIK. I didn’t find this in the patch notes - did I miss that?
