Honestly i just gave up at this point, fire staff has no identity, it has no burst, no cc and has subpar mobility with the recent changes to light armor and how clunky burnout is, its not even fun to play anymore.
Pillar of fire needs a complete rework, the aoe is small, its hard to aim even on plain field and its passive “first strike” should be 90% hp not 100%, refreshing pillar of fire should be 25% on armor and 35% on weapon.
Burnout should have a faster windup animation or should have a perk called “stable burnout” that gives grit during burnout.
Flamethrower should be nerfed in some way
Incinerate should have some form of cc and do less damage
Fireball is good as it is.
Meteor shower should be like ice storm or at the end of the cast you should cast a big ass meteor that actually does damage.
I don’t even know why im writing this here, AGS don’t care about mages since launch, we didnt even had a voidbent variant ffs

Burnout should be close to instant cast, about this perk to burn out which will add you grit I was posting long time ago its really needed … instead if this they added grit to this funny ring skill which as escaping tool is … emm I dont know word … Moreover to your list I would add : walking mode after light attack must be removed I could understand it after heavy but after light ? AGS really? It makes FS so clunky…
Because you play the game casually and don’t understand the arguments that the more experienced and knowledge players are making, but for some reason you are in the forums debating them constantly trying to say they are wrong based off your single OPR match you play a day. OPR is not competitive PVP and has nothing to do with competitive PVP. Just because you get a high score in OPR or are able to do stuff doesn’t mean your weapon is good or isn’t bad. Firestaff is not a good 1v1 weapon either. You can’t measure a weapon off that.
NO. Incinerate should not gain better CC and have less dmg if they don’t increase the cast speed. We don’t need a Shockwave copy on FS.
It has a clear role in that it is the only double FIre weapons, so you get full benefit from Ignited Runeglass on Armor. Then BB does the Initial Damage, and FS is the Finisher.
It is actually real good, if you not performing with it then maybe you are using a sub-optimal builds or not used to the playstyle.
i personally think all skills in fire staff are crap apart of flamethrower for pve and pvp XD but bump
Only 20% of the BB damage is scaling plus the grenades. Just having two of the same damage type does not give the weapon a clear role. That setup lacks CC and survivability.
Well mate, hmm I havent read the comments but hmmm. I am sorry but I shouldn’t get punish for forcing a melee attack on a mage. Your a mage. King of aoe and damage. If I get into melee to you, you deserve to die. Flamethrower state is too strong, most of time invisible due to some bugs. Can’t stagger you in thrower, can’t cc you cause of grit most of the time. GRIT ON A MAGE REALLY???
No it’s not fine. As a dex melee user light I cannot come in and kill you if you thrower me. Your thrower does more damage then I can. Bruiser may survive and heavy will definitly do so.
@Thatsecret This is the idea I mentioned above, why do you think you should be able to come in and kill a firestaff for free? “if they use flamethrower I don’t get to come in and kill them”, bro what? Honest question I wonder where this weird ideology comes from. The trading comment is just false, all melee dex weapons out trade a flamethrower. You are probably getting iframed and not iframing at the right time against the fire staff. You are the person I referenced above asking for nerfs on things you don’t understand because at your skill level you can’t beat it, this is how the game got into this trash state. Mage is not king of damage anymore. Fire staff hits like a wet noodle now. Like I said it received a massive damage nerf this patch. Also flamethrower is a melee ability, it should be able to be used close range.
I’ll agree with pretty much most of what you said in terms of the changes firestaff needs, except on flamethrower. It’s a bit of a crutch, let’s be honest. It’s literally so busted now with it procing attunement and the new runeglass dots. The reason that guy in the video doesn’t like 1v3ing flamethrower compared to melee. Melee have telegraphed abilities and you can dodge them easily while flamethrower is just constant and has longer range than most melees auto attacks. my point is, you can dodge melees abilities rather easily and then do damage of your own or get away. However fighting a flamethrower, you dodge away and still have it slapping you in the butt before you exit the dodge animation rofl due to keen speed or the perk making you speed racer. There is no cooldown on it so if the melee mange’s you catch you out and interrupt you, every other skill in the game goes on a cooldown while flamethrower doesn’t and you can just turn it back on and flamethrower slaps yo. They didn’t say a damage nerf but a mana consumption nerf. If it gets a damage nerf then they have to buff pillar. They have too, and fix its targeting.
@newb You sure flamethrower procs attunement? I had someone test it and they said it doesn’t. I fail to see how it is any more busted than a melee weapon like great sword. They are more sticky than flamethrower and do more damage. I am assuming you have never actually played flamethrower because haste does almost nothing while using it. All fast swinging melee weapons are hard to dodge, but they also slow you and shorten your dodge roll. Flame thrower is rather easy to get away from. Also the guy in the video was SnS so I am not sure what you think he is dodging.
It procs attunement now for sure due to them changing flamethrower to be registered as a hit which is why it procs riposte now. If you get an frost attunement it’s very easy to see, but a flame attunement one gets swallowed up in the see of numbers. And yes mages got a big kick in the face with the light and medium nerf to dodging. It’s extremely hard to peel away now while having 0 way applying the slow back to a melee player. Greatsword just seems over tuned. Just a learning curve right now, but growing pains with the dodge changes which I hope they revert or adjust which they probably won’t. I am just saying overall while fighting a melee player vs a flamethrower. If you outplay a melee player they are punished by now not having a cooldown, but with flamethrower you can just turn it back on almost instantly. That’s what I’m getting at. Like sure you can run away, but who wants to run away. People want legitimate counter play that’s fair and balanced. Flamethrower being able to get turned on and off so freely kinda takes it away.
@newb I thought the same thing from the patch notes so I had someone test it and they said it didn’t proc. Have you actually tested it or are you assuming? The melee player can also light attack back, the mage would be the one with 0 counter play if they couldn’t turn flamethrower back on. Right now good melee easily beat a firestaff 1v1, the idea they can’t because flamethrower is nonsense.
I tested it and I see it procing but I can double check when I get home tonight. I’m like 98 percent sure it procs since a it’s registered as a hit. Flamethrower is just so strong imo. It’s a disadvantage to not use it. Do I want it to get nerfed? No,yes? I would prefer to run pillar but pillar is just so weak compared. I don’t think a good melee can beat a good fs/IG unless the mage completely messes up. The cross server 1v1 was won by a fs/ig. Y flamethrower not having a cooldown allows the mage to apply so much pressure without ever getting punished for getting caught out imo. That’s the way I look at it.
I take some of it back, sns skitzo builds got a buff with this new slow. It is much more difficult to 1v1 light meters now. Much more difficult but not impossible.
I hope fire staff gets a redesign soon. I haven’t played it in MONTHS but it does need a lot of love. It should be THE weapon that is scariest to go up against, imo. You are wielding chaos … it should even be a little dangerous for the FS user.

You know though that there alot of Desync in this game Iframe mean nothing. Even if I textbook do everything if I a desync whatsoever I am dead Iframe does not work. That how hitscan hit the shadow of people and kill them. Back to the subject. Thrower is does not deserve grit. It should deal proper damage that I agree enough to punish people that do not Iframe properly. But making it not CC able I do not like it. I do not know about the nerf that coming, I do not check VoD.
The game is in a trash state not because of people like me who try to play assassin. The game is in a trash state cause Heavy is the way to go since Day 1. And everytime they trying to switch it they trash everything else around it making heavy strenght the ‘‘only’’ thing playable. I can beat people through shear skill. If I get up to you and spear combo you, you deserve to die. There no iframe involve in my kicking you to the face and sweeping you. What killing me most of the time is the desync and the input delay. Something I cannot control, even though opening all the port and everything.
Totally agree. I feel that the Iframe on dodge is almost non existent at the end. Does not represent the dodge properly. I am stuck in dodge animation but do not have the Iframe coming with it.
You know that the game is based on 2 weapon right not only one? If you focus only on firestaff you deserve to die. They many other weapon that can combo to help you get out of sticky situation like that. Here all I am seeing is firestaff this and firestaff there. You gont IG wall out of it? You dont use ga for charging out? I dunno hmm. So yea on 1 weapon game SnS and Firestaff is a bad matchup. Spear and firestaff is a bad matchup for you. Should we nerf everything cause you want to play only one weapon?
I do know what they intend, they just did the dev update in youtube and said what they intend, and its nerfing the mage even more and buffing melees. Musket its okay btw.
And i dont care about they doing what I want or not, i wont play mage anymore, and ill say more, probably i wont play this game anymore in a month or less, so im fine ridiculising devs for their bad decisions in pvp based on their casual gameplay.
If that’s not enough, the only way the had to get a better balance (ranked system in arenas) and they are delaying it to do another copy-paste dungeon. GG new world, expect your death when AoC or riot comes out.
