While i am rather forgiving for removing coins from chests to reduce the gain by bots, but i think i speak for most when i say i didnt expect this to be permanent and that we would get coins back eventually yet it feels like developers completely forgot about it…
another topic i want to raise is… there is only 1 type of chest and you can more or less predict its content. Please add variety and different chest types to the game.
true but then again… the fault lies with development…
there are countless ways to counter bots and benefit players but they havent attempted any…
a bots weakness is lack of human control and thus any repetitive action without random elements can be repeated…
here is one simple solution
add in fishable encounters… a crab which jumps to either right or left after being struck with a 2 second interval and strong aoe resistance… skinning it rewards fish oil etc. they could even add in sharks in certain locations or rare tentacles from a kraken you would fight.
and while at that add 3 variations of the crab… a slightly ranged, a basic side stepper, and a boss which can drop decent fish loot and immune to cc etc.
the bot would need a counter for these encounters, first thing would be image based upon whats fished but if the crab looks similar on the shell to a chest this becomes hard, if one of the crab types jumps out the chest once near you then impossible to differentiate.
and since this game punishes death unless a friend revives you which a bot does not, then this mechanic rewards fishers and makes it sort of more interesting while countering bots…
and yes while they could set the bot to accept spawn at a tent close to the water, a counter would simply let the encounter last a fair duration before despawning and give it an extended aggro range for the original fisherman.
i mean… they havent exactly had little time to counter bots… bot counter is something handled even during development so i am honestly wondering what their excuses are as currently its just punish customers becourse they are incapable of brainstorming ideas ?
note: a general thing they could do would be to send a game master in invisibility mode to any fisher who has remained at their location fishing for over 2 hours etc. many to check but at they catch bots this creates fear for those abusing the rules…
Years ago in FFXI they first tried randomly teleport bots to check for activity, but those bots soon learned to just log off if that happened. So they countered fishing bots by having NPC’s caught, that would attack them, as well as random NPC’s that roamed the shores and only attacked people that were fishing. Problem was, they just moved into towns to fish, where no NPC’s could attack them.
Fighting bots is a constant battle, it’s just the nature of it. It doesn’t mean that it should not be fought. Did FFXIV fail to kill bots? Then they just stopped trying.
By the time they finally killed the fishing bots, trillions had been injected into the economy, and the bots just went on to make money other ways. When bots first appeared, 2-3million was about $40 USD. When the fishing bots were “resolved” you could buy about 50million for that same $40 USD. At that point most people were buying gold, to purchase items that were farmed and crafted by bots. You could also buy the items directly from the bots, as well as power leveling, item farming, quest farming, skill leveling,
