Fixing New World: Wars, Invasions, & Territory Control

Make no mistake and know this is just my opinion on the matter, but fear not internet, just because I make videos about New World doesn’t mean I have any influence over the game, I’m just like you, a fan of this game and I want to share it with the world.
Saying that, just note, I know there are those out there who enjoy the war/territory control/invasion system, and thus you might not enjoy these ideas outright, but I’d love for your thoughts on how to try and blend these systems together. Also, just so you know, I believe in giving my feedback to the devs, so I’ve posted these ideas on the forums, if you feel like you want to weigh in on the conversation there as well, the link will be in the description and thanks for your feedback and support.

Ok, so my feedback is rooted in two ideas

1. I consider myself a hardcore casual player, and being that I have kids, there is no way in hell that I'll make Wars/Invasions work for my schedule, but I do feel they are very important pieces of content that a lot of players end up missing out on
2. The issue with server mergers, and massive population shifts tend to pop up so this style of content can vary and depending on your server, things can swing wildly

I want to first take the approach of more “cross-server” style content, I totally understand the importance of the territory controls system, but when I thought back to my Final Fantasy XI days, I remember they had a system of control that was rooted in player activity, not just decided by one event. So here is what I propose

Make everything you do in the game count as progress (points) towards a weekly goal for your faction. Also, allow Wars and Invasions to become content modes that players can enjoy (we’ll come back to this point more in a second, but here is where things get interesting) The activities you do, (like play in wars, win wars) gives a lot of points to your faction’s total for that zone. Each week, the points and influence are reported, and territory is handed out. (What I don’t know yet, and would love your thoughts on, is how do you decide which company gets control of the land? Sound off, I’m still working on that one)

During the week you could see faction influence, and the longer a faction tends to hold a zone, the more other factions get a multiplayer for playing in that zone. But yes, let’s do some very basic math, and please note, these are just made-up numbers to illustrate this example, I’m sure lots of tests in terms of balance would be needed.

Personally, I’d use the XP system as the base level points that a player gets so for example
Gathering would give you 10xp of influence for your faction
Crafting would do the same
Open world mobs, bosses, pve/faction missions would all give a good base amount of 1000xp of influence
Completing a dungeon would reward you with 500xp of influence
Wars Completed would give 5000xp
Wars Won would give an additional 10,000xp
Invasions completed would give 2500xp
Invasions won would give an additional 5000xp
Open world PvP would reward 5x multiplier for influence

Since this isn’t zone specific perhaps an item that you could redeem and apply to the zone, you’re in…
OPR would give you 500xp for completion
Arena would give you 100xp for completion

The goal here is that no matter what you are doing, you’re gaining influence for your faction, and this would/could open up the game for more cross-world activities and take the wars out of the scheduled mode and allow them to act as content in the game.
The idea then that people might just want to play on the most “dominate faction” would be offset by the more territory you control, or perhaps the less territory you control, week over week, the strong your influence modifier grows.
This also could have the added benefit of groups looking for open world pvp to focus in on a territory as well, and seeing where they’re winning, or about to win would/could populate some interesting moments in the game.

Anyway, this is just what I’ve been thinking off, this would be best if paired with more cross world play so that as friends join/return, you won’t find yourself having to hop servers, but rather just team up together, and I know this would impact apart of what people love about the current system, but I figured I’d just share my thoughts on the matter and let you all weigh in with yours too.

AS always, thanks for your time, your thoughts, and I wish you all the best, until next time take care.
