Forum aggression and why its not all bad

In my communication course this week I came across some material that too accurately captured many of the feelings I have seen (and expressed) in the forums over proposed changes. The topic is frustration aggression displacement theory.

I simply wish to point out, that the reason there is so much aggression focused here (whether it is justified or not to the dev team) is because people genuinely value the game. If no one actually cared about the game or its state, no one would be talking here and it really would be a dead game.

TLDR: people are mad because they care.

Well yeah that’s a professional way of looking at it. Anger is a response to the unexpected nerfs. Definitely agree there.
But I can understand the anger. I get mad about some things too with the game. If only they linked the storages…

I genuinely don’t give a crap, I’m here to help people understand why this game is a joke or help with the effort of embarrassing Amazon enough that they never pull a stunt like this again.

Correct.

Instead of sympathize with people who care enough to speak, we have lonely individuals, who in one breath say the game is fine, and in the other do nothing but troll the forums (if the game’s so good why are the white knights here instead of playing the great game? ).

This anger is compounded by an extreme display of schadenfreude, which is ironic considering that they are only helping to drive the player base even lower by ridiculing the small (relative to launch numbers) amount of people that care enough to give feedback.
