Yeah I was skeptical at first because it felt like I might be falling for a cash grab, with the new updates rolling out I was warming up to it. Very happy I didn’t spent a cent on it now because the future seems shaky again.
So you’re not really a money maker for them. I’ve spent thousands on games in my time, because I see it as an investment of my time.
AGS not wanting to invest in its own forums anymore has knocked my confidence in the game, because the playerbase numbers aren’t great as it is. You can love the game but still look at it with a skeptical eye.
I care about the community’s ability to post on the forums as a whole. Any “attempt to remind you how good they are” is a direct reaction to your repeated questioning of the validity of my personal interests and reasoning to the extent of almost asking me to explain my personal time to you.
I did not say that the “forums are New World’s most well respected aspect”; their ability to keep a tether between the creators of the game, and the player base is one of their most well respected aspects. Forums are a part of that, and removing them will damage that.
My buyer’s remorse is based on my own personal feelings, and it is not by any means a stretch of the imagination to think that if I am personally experiencing it, that somebody else probably is too. I get hungry sometimes, so you probably do too.
Using WoW as a comparison isn’t generic; it is the most possible relevant comparison that can be given. World of Warcraft has existed for TWO FULL DECADES, 20 YEARS, with dozens of dozens of iterations of different methods of how to interact with the community, different versions of the forums, literal GAME MAGAZINES before internet was even widespread enough to be considered a reliable or consistent method of conveying information, and all of them are well documented over time.
You are in over your head.
That’s fair, im not trying to knock people who purchase extras, as i bought the preorder for a friend and I. Also had amazon prime only for the neworld rewards. I just feel in general the move to discord is really not that bad of a move considering its very similar, with more features, than a forum. Im all for the forums being around if that many people want it, but unfortunately, lately its just not been what it used to be in my opinion
It’s simple. The game isn’t doing well. It’s going into maintenance mode. They cut staff and the staff they have was split between here and lost ark. Soon it’s split even further to throne and liberty.
They aren’t investing into NW so it’s cheaper for them to just shut the forums down instead of hiring more community staff as they publish more games.
This game is in maintenance mode and you won’t be seeing much effort out into the game. Not that there was all that much effort anyways. The first year was semi ok because they had backloaded content like Brimstone Sands going even before launch. They are out of that backloaded content now. All you will see is a free by dungeon, recycled events and small bits here and there. Most effort will be put into things they can sell you for extra money and expansions which is again extra money. Enjoy being nickeled and dimed to death. The writing was on the wall a long time ago.
We’ll see how it plays out. I like to support a game if it gives me confidence that it has a future and is going in a good direction. I can’t see me partaking in Discord, but I hope those who do will have their feedback heard and it will help the game grow and prosper.
Forums are way better than discord. You won’t have any organized conversations on discord and it will be a giant mess compared to the forums. People thinking discord will be better are delusional.
I dont know how to say it better.
The biggest loss of closing the forums is just it’s lost content.
People use the forums as a part of the game. It’s a fun activity to check, argue, purpose, give u maybe an illusion of importance you prob can’t get out of the game for months anymore.
So people will dip out of the game even faster due to boredom since this part will be gone
Ive never seen a mmo that doesn’t have forum’s on their actual game site. Usually it’ that and discord, not shutting it down.
It’s not just lost content it’s the loss of feeling connected to the wider community, to the devs, and having confidence that the community is valued by the company, and the game is healthy and worth investing time and money into.
Closing an official forum feels like the company has problems, and this knocks confidence in the longevity and health of the game.
To me, they should have waited until NW’s population started to increase with new updates, instead they’re doing it at a time when more merges have taken place due to dwindling numbers.
It depends, FF has this thing of like, the entire community is doing it’s thing over discord.
So that works aswell, but in NW u have no hard content, and you have no real casual content to talk stuff about either. So there’s no real thing to have conversations about in the long run.
Not to mention you don’t have regular content updates like every other mmo
Closing forums is a huge mistake.
I will never use Discord for feedback. It’s far from being practical for me.
Goodbye New World community.
Overall, it will be worse for AGS. They won’t be able to police negative views and the dissemination of bugs/exploits in places they don’t control (like reddit).
Maybe it could work then. I’m just used to the old fashioned way of MMO’s maintaining their connection to their community via their own official forum.
I hope Discord works out, I really do. I just feel concerned that there’s more to it, especially since Lost Ark is doing the same.
Ha! Says you. Feast your eyes on this:
See that? All of this is going to be cataloged. Cataloged! Nothing will be lost. All will be preserved.
Millions of years from now when archaeologists dig up those catalogs and read this thread, you’re going to feel pretty silly about being wrong.
If we all just settle with reddit instead of discord the devs may have to follow. Reddit is not as good as forums to gather information in an organized manner but still better than discord and it is accessible with google search.
Because those forums are also run by AGS. The community staff was split to handle both LA and NW. Soon it will be T&L as well. Its pretty obvious that AGS doesnt want to invest in more people so they cheap out and just dump the forums. This is what happens when games are niche. Its maintenance mode now. Little staff as possible, hollow updates, and most resources put into making things they can sell you.
posting it again since ags deleted the first post with 150+ comments
i guess we now know why they’re deleting the forums, easier to hide the negativity on discord and ban anyone that doesn’t suck up to the game

They didn’t delete it. They sure as hell unlisted it.

I guess they want us to accept it quietly like cattle.
