because they have 0 clue why the spaghetti code is causing this
Here’s something interesting, if I am outside my Everfall home it doesn’t freeze, but if I step inside or even look inside for too long it’ll freeze. Same thing with my Windward home, if I’m inside its okay but if step outside on the back porch or even LOOK at the back porch too long it’ll freeze.
I think the fact that we can see the rest of the town while inside our homes is also causing problems. Something about the game not being able to know where the edges of the space really are? I dunno if that makes sense. I feel like it might have something to do with Ambient Occlusion and the fact that we can see items 20 feet away through 3 walls etc, maybe the game trys to look even further than our home space and freezes.
But another good guess is that there is some game state save error in communication and it is confusing us and our homes with other players that own those homes. That could be why there are weird decoration numbers that don’t match what we’ve placed. It could also explain why certain homes that have more owners have this problem worse.
The most recent home I bought was in Mourningdale, a little 5k one near the town board and it hasn’t freezed on me yet. Could it be less people around outside during decoration? Could it be less decorations from others owning the same property?
What I do know is it isn’t my hardware because the freeze doesn’t happen in every home I own.
Also, the freeze didn’t even happen when I first bought the everfall home. There was a patch and then the freeze started after. Either the patch messed something up or simply way more ppl bought and decorated their everfall home after the patch.
Either way this is one of the few grinds left for max level people and an entire (incredibly difficult to lvl) profession dedicated to simply furnishing these homes! For this bug to still be going on is incredibly frustrating and shows a lack of understanding about what home-owning and furnishing means to the playerbase.
I wanna add, my weird intuition superstition leads me to believe homes that have inside/outside components are more likely to get bugged. Something about the game not being sure whether you are inside or outside, or somehow the code breaks if you cross a threshold of inside and outside.
It’s almost like they originally set the boundaries of homes to just include the house, but then later added yards or walkways that are outdoors and the game freaks out when you try to go from one to the other.
Ugh another guess could be that everyone in that location is having the same issues and most ppl only decorate a certain part of the home and so that’s the part that gets overwhelmed with multiple players save states and the freeze happens.
I wondered if there was any connection to the decoration menu having a checkbox for “Only show owned” and the box cannot be checked. I will try out reducing the potential decoration list by picking a category quickly!
EDIT: I can’t seem to make a new response so I’ll add it here.
There is a bandaid fix that actually works!! As soon as you start decorating, swich away from “all” tab and go to beds or chairs etc, it seems to stop the freezes! And if I do get a freeze it is only a few seconds and I’ve only had 2 or so like that since I’ve tried this trick!
Pass it on!!
Well I’m also talking about the fact the score will arbitrarily change additionally the number of placed decorations will change as well sometimes I look and it says 130 other times it says 171
And every single time I look it’s usually a different top scorer even though the decoration score stays the same and if anything I’ve gotten more levels into territory
Clearly bugs in the game
Same issue ; housing is unplayable, 20 min to put a chair… but they are too busy with their PTR to care about bugs reported for more than 1 month now… Maybe don’t release new content as the previous one is still not fixed…
I’m having this same issue in my home in Windward. This has been going on for weeks for me. I tried optimizing my CPU and made sure many of my programs in the background are closed, and it still freezes. Please have a fix for this soon! It didn’t happen before the server maintenance recently for me.
One thing I’ve noticed is sometimes other players will show up in my housing area. I know you can visit other homes. But I’m not the top spot and what are the chances people will check out my home on a server that barely breaks 700 these days.
So now I’m starting to wonder if the proposed theory that homes are “bleeding” into each other might actually be right. ((At least on a ‘data stored in a database’. When I first go into my home I have like 116/215 decorations…then the glitch happens and it drops to around 96 and the temporary lockups start.))
This “bleed” would also explain why, in your case, it doesn’t happen on every home. There’s still a bunch of T2/T3 homes that have no other owners.
And it would explain my issue of it getting worse. I picked the T4 home in EF that’s right off the Trading Post and the town well. So it’s definitely a ‘prime location’ for both ‘curb appeal’ seekers (ie being #1 so their home is shown to everyone) and those want quick access to trading when they port.
…as more bought that home, more data bleed is happening.
I was thinking about this as well. Could it be caused by the house that is “on display” trying to load its decorations in your house? in my instance, my house is not the one on display and I am getting these issues, but one of my friends doesn’t have this issue but his house is the display one.
In this theory…it’d just be: The more players that own that house, the more the system slows down trying to sort out which data (ie a chair) belongs to which player. With it not mattering if the house is on public display or not.
Knowing this game was designed in a haste (the change from RUST-like to ‘Standard MMO’). I’m guessing the coding is something like this (as illustrated and not actually the code-speak):
Each house is a “basket” and the items we ALL place are then dropped in the basket with a “name tag” for who’s suppose to view them; along with the other bits that say what the item’s position in the house is.
So, the more players that have an ownership claim to the house, the more items are dumped into the basket for all of us to sift through on the client side (one of the devs has stated “things like housing” are handled by the client; this was brought up during the ‘is NW client authorative’ questioning).
This also means the smaller homes would be less impacted because they, by design, only allow so many items to be placed; less items in the basket from each player owning a claim to the house. Plus those using T1/T2 homes are likely only using them for Trophy and Teleport and not placing a bunch of items to begin with.
In other mmo’s you can actually petition while in the game and a live rep will respond to your questions., it may take a day but they will track you down and give you an answer, and here we are 2021, a game owned by one of the wealthiest companies in the world and we are being completely ignored, for weeks. They seem to have time to read every one of our comments and then either approve and post it and or temporarily disable and enable our accounts but they cannot simply make the time to acknowledge our comments. Outright unprofesional and disrespectful.
Same issue. Teir 2 house in weavers fen. Seemed to happen the most for me when placing, moving or picking up an item model that has not been in the house before. Cannot repro 100%. Game will become unresponsive for a few moments, and occasionally just crash. I took a few screenshots today while decorating and did notice that my “Decorations 104/125” changed to 19/125 with every instance of the game becoming unresponsive.
It freezes for me inside and outside just as often.
Well house building is disabled now so i’m going to assume they’re working on it.
saying it comes down to hardware is like finding a needle in a haystack of the few people with working hardware. there are people from 1060s to 3080s having this issue with various CPU and Ram amounts.
its definitely a code issue considering how often people note the abnormal doubling of count.
guess what fellas - my house is back to a fabulous 41 points - with 75 everfall standing and 1350+ decoration score
oh and… yea my ‘b’ doesnt even work anymore - i cant even decorate my house and i’ve tried to close game and reopen - still doesnt work
my house has gone 1.2M → 339K → 790K → 41 → 338K → 779K → 41
WITHOUT ME CHANGING ANYTHING ; /rage
farming simulator 22 comes out in 5 days - it’s looking mighty appealing right about now
Decorating is disabled on purpose atm. We just hope it means they’re actually looking at fixing our issues.
Woooaaaah … Issue has been around for over a MONTH now & still no fix for this shit… So when are they replacing the DEV Team…
Before you go & say " well could you do a better job? " no… No I couldn’t. I am also NOT a DEVELOPER.
I agree completely
Was hoping to see it fixed in the patch notes but alas
It’s been over a month… this is not an uncommon issue
