Fresh servers - missing out on a huge opportunity

The update will probably release towards the end of October and a lot of things can change until then. The new leveling experience is not even on live yet and playercounts can fluctuate in very extreme ways as we all know. I think we just need to be patient for now, watch how the whole thing develops and then react accordingly when we’re closer to the update.

New World has suffered massively from prematurely opening too many servers at the start, so I think we need to be super careful to not repeat the same mistake because some people want to have everything

Just imagine you start on a fresh start server and for some reason the server dies down after a while without any opportunity to transfer away or to the server and at the moment without the cross-realm play (that we’re going to get at some point in the future). Realistically you’re then stranded on a dead server, are locked out of all endgame activities and probably will stop playing because of it.

This entire scenario is something that most players asking for fresh start servers don’t really think about, but the developers have to… And that’s probably why you’re not going to see fresh start servers any time soon.

Who said anything about transferring out? That can be allowed ofc. It’s about people not transferring in.

People would abuse the shit out of dead servers to farm an abundance of materials without any competition and then transfer over. If you can’t transfer in, you also shouldn’t be able to transfer out.

Cool suggestion here RaistlinMajere, I will forward this up the chain so the Dev team can have a look. Take care!

This would be the most alive server of them all tho…

Fresh servers 2 weeks before Brimstone Sands release,
while the revamped lvling patch is live.

Would be a huge W

All speculation though.

People would need to level up first in order to farm…

And?

I think you solve that with a “No transfers to another server for XX days after a Fresh Start server launches” instead of a blanket “No transfers off” policy. You could make it long enough that people won’t use it as a farming stop - 3 months perhaps?

Hello all, Not sure if you guys have seen the new post regarding additional servers opening up. Check it out here: [Notice] Adding Additional Servers to Central EU, US-East, and South America.

We’ve seen it, which is why we discuss about the missed opportunity.

LoL, Imagine AGS taking a note from all these other games trying to bring life back to their projects… WoW Classic Fresh servers, Guild Wars Steam release with fresh servers, and Archage: Unchained fresh servers dropping soon. These folks all have xfer turned off to these fresh servers…because they listened to the community.

Yup. Blizzard/Activision also made the same mistake with Classic when bringing out their first expansion tho. Seems like they have learnt from that now as they brought fresh servers with 90 days transfer restriction etc. MMO players (especially the ones not actively playing anymore) love to start or return on fresh/fair/balanced servers. This way you get people way more excited than by releasing servers where veteran players (like me btw) can transfer to.
Hell, even I personally would consider making a twink there just to experience the early game hype again!

Almost in the right direction. Now leave out the part of the transfers…

Imo New World should have been shut down and taken back to the drawing board after the exploits occurred. It completely ruined the game and could never be solved in an online-game.

With hopefully the major issues fixed now and a big update around the corner, I believe it would be a great idea to open fresh servers to which transfers are DISABLED.

I would at least look forward to this a lot and I’m sure many other people too!

Yes the new servers are a good fix for current queue issues, id disagree with anyone saying these specific servers should release with transfers disabled as the new leveling on ptr is a much better early game experience and worth waiting for.

But when brimstone sands releases with the new leveling, new fresh start servers with transfers disabled is absolutely the best call, the support for them on these forums and reddit is resounding and the amount of people saying they would only return for no transfer servers is also no joke. It’s a huge opportunity and the numbers it would bring back shouldn’t be underestimated. Personally I really want to dive back into new world but when i think of the amount of fun I could have on a fresh start server, in comparison I just cant find the motivation to get back into my old character. Thanks for the communication, PTR is a blast and many people like me who had shelved new world early on are taking note. <3

When it was discovered that gold was being duped shortly after release, it completely took the wind out of my sails. I essentially quit playing at that point. When I heard about a fresh server coming back - I was ready to hit the game hard. Finding out that existing servers can transfer to this fresh server has once again removed that wind. AGS comes so close to knocking it out of the park and then kills it with minor tweaks.

So if a fresh server was announced, but you log in a day late because you had shit to do on launch day, and you find out some no life discord company took over every region and are at lv 50 while you’re lv 1, that’ll also take the wind out of your sails?

Because that’s what’s going to happen. If you let something so small deter you from playing a game for fun then idk what to say.

What do you want the solution to be? Cap play time at 1 hr a day for every character on every fresh start server so all people have a chance to catch up?

PTR just released a few days ago, and there are already max level characters, and its PTR. A week after fresh start server releases, everyone asking for one will be behind, and the servers will die because you will all get the wind taken out of your sails and quit…

Wow back in 2004 will never be the same as wow classic, people have figured shit out and learned how to optimize their farming. Just as how it took weeks and months for a raid to be cleared in vanilla wow, it takes days in classic.

Just as how it took weeks for zones to be captured and gold to be made back in Beta, it will take days for real die hards to take over an entirely new server. And this isnt the fault of AGS or any dev, gamers CHOOSE to optimize the fun and competition out of every game.

No matter how good or how long you think you’ve been playing a game, there will be a group of people who will be at the brink of death playing the game 24/7

And yet I still had tons of fun starting WoW classic at 0 with everyone. A couple of days advantage is a way smaller difference than a year now. If you don’t see that Idk anymore. Btw this is coming from someone who is full BiS and still active after a year. It’s just an entirely different experience starting at 0 when most others are maxed out already compared to a full server starting over.

Its not about falling behind… its about people transfering full storages of materials to a new server and fucking up the economy from start… not mentioning the maxed out gear on ppl that will just kill everoyne who dares to flag up. Also it just doesnt make much sense in general since there will be no crafting stations upgraded so new and returning players dont have any way of crafting the best tools etc while the transfered characters will have yet another advantage by already owning these items being able to sell and make profit on it.
