I’m sorry, but wanting to start from the beginning with my friend at this point in time should absolutely be a given. There is no reason whatsoever that me and my friend should not both spawn in at the same area without having to make multiple characters before that happens. My friend got New World a couple weeks after I did, so I decided to start fresh. I spawn in Windsward and my friend spawns in First Light. There was no way we could find to meet up. I can’t begin to tell you how much this frustrates me. We should be able to select which zone we start in. Why isn’t this in the game?
Unfortunately, because they can.
But, if you finish the first quest and don’t accept the next one at the watchtower, you can meet where ever you want. But it’s important that you don’t accept any quest there. Otherwise you will be forced to play the main story for another town, than your friend.
When meeting, stay on the roads. Be aware that mobs occasionally spawn close to the roads and will attack you. At level 1 you certainly die, if you can’t manage to outrun them.

Yep. We tried this. Its far too dangerous and didn’t work for us. I was able to make it all the way to my friend and we almost made it back to Windsward and both died just before we got there. This is beyond frustrating and again should NOT be something that friends who want to play a game together should have to deal with. Terrible first time experience all because of something that should never have been a problem to begin with.
If you ran all the way to First Light why didn’t you guys just stay there instead of running back to Windsward?
I agree that there should be a starting city choice. Just another of the many ways that this game is not all that conducive to grouping.
Because I started 2 weeks ago and was familiar with the Windsward area. I wanted my friend to start there too and become familiar with the first town I got to. That is beside the point though. This is not my fault or problem. This should not even be a possibility because friends playing an MMO together should easily be able to start in the same zone together. I honestly cannot think of a reason why they did not make it that way.
I mean I agree that the system is dumb.
However, your choice to run back up to Windsward after making it as a lvl 2 to First Light is also… questionable. Frankly, wouldn’t have been more fun for you guys to discover new stuff together instead of you spoon feeding your friend all the stuff you already learned?
I started a char 4 times until I started at the same place as my wife. Really not a great system
