Funny but informative question for devs

What games have the devs played and if u want to answer it for how long?

I think new world is one of the best games ive played so far apart from bugs and the lack of attachement in story. But i feel like the game lacks a few beefy parts to make people stay and play for a long time that other mmo’s already thought about.

Maybe with this we could see where the inspiration came from?

I will say mutations are a good addition but it came too early i feel like the game really needed to focus on small scale pvp and pvp rewards + open world dynamics

I would much rather hear what games the managers of AGS have played!! In the end they made the decisions that brought us here, not the devs.

Yeah, the Game Director’s bio is available on a number of sites. Consoles and QA.

Somebody definitely played Albion Online. Once you get past the isometric Torchlight look, the signs are clear. QRF for example and gathering to start

Unfortunately, the battlegrounds focus of New World reveals much of the original goal, a fantasy Fortnite. Additionally, there’s so much gating that somebody had to have come from mobile gaming.

Clearly not much in MMO though.

I would wonder, if is see Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy or Dragon Age. If someone making decisions had grown up with these games, they would never have released the game with this store and these quests!

So true. Funny, I just read DAoC is getting a new server type for it’s 20th year celebration. That low texture thing kills me now, but damn they did things right with mechanics (free/paid buff exploiting aside).

I was never a huge Zelda or FF regular fan, but I’m digging FFIV again. So much has changed since I played 5 or 6 years ago. Played all weekend. I dig ESO, and spent two weekends ago on that. It’s a little easy-mode though.

Dragon Age was glorious. Own all three of those and occasionally jump back in to sex somebody up LOL.

I understand, that’s two different things, a story in a solo game and an mmo-story. But with all the potential the world building and base idea of New World had from the start, it’s heart breaking to see how little they delivered.

SWTOR, for all it’s faults now, had one of the best story telling in an MMO.
AGS could have done something similar, but instead of giving every class it’s own story, the could have given every starting territory it’s own story, (with sup-plots for every faction). If they would make the starting territories faction-fixed, they could give scripted faction conflict stories, with introduction to the different war and invasion mechanics.
Why are there no dynamic NPC’s that, if not run missions with you, at least move trough the world depending on the story line?

Yeah, SWTOR was story rich and interesting. I liked SWTOR until they introduced free gear sets better than the PvP sets we grinded for. Plus the engine was crap (that casting across a zone knocking you off a mount ugh)…ESO tried that game engine and ditched it.

Your right, Cool storyline with decisions having an impact on your character and relationships, if not the world. I try to go back but to be honest I forget how to get anywhere LOL
