Why Furnishing takes 4x the amount of XP? it also takes more resources combined to craft recipes
below the the total amount of xp to reach 200
Arcana takes 1881425 xp to max
Armoring 1881425
Cooking 540520
Engineering 1881425
jewel crafting 1881425
Weapons smiting 1881425
FURNISHING 7905375???
that is 4.2x the amount of XP
can someone please tell me from game design and Development perspective. why Furnishing is Drastically higher ? this seems like a big miss by AGS

It’s probably because of how impactful they made furnishing in this game. Most mmos furnishing is a forgotten skill that can be ignored as it is mainly just decoration. Furnishing in New World provide MASSIVE REGIONAL benefits. Honestly I’m super happy about that and if I have to work harder and grind more to accommodate having an interacting furnishing skill then I am 100% ok with that.
Arcana and Cooking are consumables. Armoring, Weaponsmithing, and Jewelcrafting are all mostly get your gear and don’t touch until new stuff or someone needs something or you are turning a profit. Furnishing isn’t like that. There will always be demand because of the statistical benefits on top of the group of players who will seek things out because they enjoy the thematic they can design with them.
i understand that but that isn’t a good Development reason to make it drastically more grindy.
the food buffs can be even pretty strong. they just made the mats very hard to get.
it just feels like a oversight by AGS as it follows no other trend in crafting in this game.
and allot of the cool furnishing items are world drops not even crafted.
once people get trophys that part wont matter just like armoring or wep smiting as well.
It was actually really easy to level furnishing last week when T5 Pure Solvent was worth .05 gold per. Just go farm a bag full of oil them make thousands of stains. Now since they reverted the crafting reagent drop rates its going to be more expensive to go that route. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one to take that approach, depending on the server and economy you may not be able to do that anymore.
Legitimately leveling furnishing takes a ton of resources. That should be looked into.
Made 850 ash stains last night and listed out the mats needed to turn them all into shelves to get started on the grind myself. Won’t be the most efficient way of doing it. But it’s a solid 100k experience start to then reevaluate. Didn’t need any solvents for this either. Pure base mat starter with wood primary mat needed so it is stupid easy to get.
Crafting skills can be done with next to no cost if you’re willing to base level them like this instead of trying to rush it.
Im welll aware of how to level furnishing thanks. Also you may want to look at the next tiers of stains they all take 10 solvents each to craft…. And 4 oil. I’m current level 200 furnishing that i did by my self with no one feeding me mats.
The point is WHY does furnishing logically take 4.2x the amount of xp then every single other crafting prof in the game. And its not bc it makes more money. It doesn’t Engineering and armor smithing make boat loads of money.
Mining makes the most money in the entire game and is very effortless to level.
Skinning makes more money also. At 60 anyways.
It IS a bad game design and or argument to say it takes more bc it makes more money. That is simply not true.
This seems like something AGS simply did not have time to correct just like how Bees Wax is missing from the game and you can’t craft 4 furnishing items because of it. This was reported in closed alpha, closed beta, pre order beta, and open beta.
It was easier but not easy it still requires over 21,000 oil and 30-40,000 solvents to level from 150-200. As you can’t use t5 solvents to make lower level ones.
Furnishing takes more money because of the GLOBAL buffs from trophies in your three houses, plus storage buffs, the fact it ties into additional teleports, and overall being the most USEFUL skill to level long term for all around benefit.
Also, 10 solvents for 10 stains makes sense. You have to remember every craft makes 10.
