Future New World players will always have less gear set storages?

Quote: “At the release of the feature players can earn up to 3 Gear Set Slots: 2 free Gear Set Slots unlocked at level 25, and an additional Gear Set Slot unlocked at level 100 of the free Season 1 Reward Track. Players may purchase a maximum of 6 Gear Set Slots, for a total of 9 slots. Gear Set Slots are not available for use until they unlock for your character at level 25.”

The way this reads, is you can only get all 9 gear set storages if you complete the free season track. And since it’s been stated by the developers that these rewards disappear for good when the season is over, this means that all new players starting the game after season 1 will always have 1 less gear set storage compared to players who were here for season 1.

This does not seem fair to me at all, and breaks a cardinal rule IMO. You should never introduce things to the game that future players will not have access to eventually. Please fix this. The gear set storage you get at the end of the free track should just give you one that you would normally have to buy from the store, so that way all players will have the same cap for max amount of gear set storages regardless if they complete the free track or not, and regardless if they start playing the game after season 1.

It actually works like this:
2 gears by default.
7 gears in payment store.
1 gear per season. only this gear disappears at the end of the season, and then it is obtained again in the next season.
They have already said that the gear you get in the season pass is a temporary gear, it is only there that season and then it is removed.
new season, you reach lvl 100 and get the 10th gear temporarily.

I’ve never heard this cardinal rule. MMORPGs I’ve played in the past have always had legacy items that newer players couldn’t get. It helps players feel good about remaining loyal.

What you’re talking about with Gear Sets is one set. The two default sets are acquired at level 25 and I figure the ones in the shop will stay there until you buy them. If a player can acquire one set for completing the season pass, that’s a reward for sticking with the game. Hardly worth complaining about.

It’s talked about amongst game designers. Introducing FOMO items/features that future players will never have access to is frowned upon by many developers because even if it creates some type of FOMO or temporary “feel good” loyalty amongst current players, it can create negative consequences and blowback from future players, literally forever (until the game shuts down) which could have a net negative effect. Keep in mind, I’m not talking about skins here, because skins have zero effect on actual game mechanics. This situation gets worse depending on the items/features, as well. If we were talking about a unique BIS pvp item with unique perks on it that future players could never access, I’m sure the conversation starts changing at that point as well. Luckily, that’s not this, but having more gear set storages than future players is still an advantage that shouldn’t exist at all.

Where did you read you can buy 7 gear set storages in the store? The quote I have above clearly says you can only buy 6 gear set storages, not 7…
