Game being melee centric kills the pvp scene and players to be the blamed mostly

It would help too if the devs pvpd. I want a dev to play a bow or any ranged in arena for a couple hours then say that the light armor change is healthy. All it did was make ranged stay ranged and be glass cannons, which is toxic. Imo all ranged attacks should lose a lot of damage after a certain range, but revert light armor changes. The best gameplay in PvP comes from close range combat. But now if you want to play close range you’re kind of forced to play with a healer or be melee.

Game isnt very fun without a dedicated healer, either.

the entire gameplay of this game is centered around mid/close combat and mages are primarily the best example of how range should play in terms of effective range.

the added 3rd layer of longer range is why the game suffers, it’s even made worse in open world.

they also messed up by creating armor imbalances resulting in varying DMG outputs.

fact that healers are still the only class actively punished and pigeon holed into a specific armor setup shows how badly they’ve designed their armor system

I mean I think it’s fair to have someone in heavy armor do less damage if they have more defense. The roll changes just don’t make sense. If theyre going to keep this garbage then they need to make ranged weapons have more utility close range.

sure on paper this is sound. problem is the tradeoff isn’t sufficient to warrant it.

mitigation sources.

so the tradeoff isn’t really a tradeoff and more DMG is bis becuase you can get plenty of ehp in light/med setups when you also factor iframe is single biggest DMG mit in game.

it’s just another example of AGS not fully taking into account all mechanics in final outcome when addressing balance issues.

Your not going to like this but that’s probably because the ranged weapons that shoot the non-strength melee generally do 3-4k auto attacks even if your slotted with 35% damage resistances towards those attacks. Mise well just play strength melee and stand on point so you don’t get shot by ridiculous ranged damage.

I disagree that players are to blame. AGS is sitting on a mound of potential data points that can drive their decisions in an appropriate fashion.

Player feedback should just be a drop in that bucket, and if it isn’t, then its on AGS.

Otherwise, yeah - this is a melee game. It feels as if they don’t have diversity in their weapon design team, or something else is missing. Maybe an dominating alpha, maybe an unannounced game design change? who knows.

I dont really think flamethower is anything crazy since the light roll nerf got rid of thier silly survivability. Imo its probably a good thing for mages long term they are no longer crutched on it given how the og mages i know hated the flamerthower playstyle.

Maybe im just a boomer but pvp should be about mutal interaction and everyone having a good chance of dieing. The reason sns one shot builds got nerfed is only one of the poeple involed got to play the game. But now we have muskets, some of the main complainers about schitzos, now wanting one sidded interaction in thier favor.

Most of the medium GA/WH users who play opr/wars etc base their entire play style around having a healers on their hip with the rapier escape button at the ready. It’s funny because they just tank so much damage and then just bunny hop around getting constant heals. Having a pocket healer is essentially just playing a whole different game than most people lol.

I love beating those guys down whenever I catch them without a healer in open world or duels or whatever and they immediately start complaining. “Oh you have a cheese build, that never works in war, that burst damage is OP…”

Like no lol, you just forgot that 200 con medium isn’t actually a face-tank build when you don’t have a lifestaff on you constantly.

Maybe the bow.

Musket head shots might on certain targets or in certain situations. Otherwise, its 2.5k or less body shots.

Not the FS or IG.

The GS hits just as hard.

I was only talking about bow/musket. GS is the exception not the rule. I’ve been hit by plenty of muskets for over 3k. Bows is consistently over 3k albeit easier to dodge.

It is super difficult trying to support new/newly returned players learn how to be competitive in PvP in the current environment.

AGS just look so lost in terms of weapon balance. At the moment there’s just 2 choices you either go melee or musket / bow maybe. Other than that then you’re just trolling or just playing for fun with whatever weapon you enjoy at a cost of just feeding.

LA nerfed to the ground thats why everyone in Arenas play with Light Armor ? 70% of players in OPR still use light armor. No no this combat needs further changes. End of this rolly polly are increase time to kill are needed.

Where the only melee is GS in light armor with hatchet ofc full glass cannon. GA+WH 300/200 too but it does not work in every comp. And in OPR you will struggle if u dont have healer, but if someone enjoy walking for 1 min and take part in 10-15s fight.

Combat always revolves around the golden rule of scissors, paper, stone… everything has a counter
When the counter is itself, it creates an unbalanced environment.
If you watch “Big bang theory” they have rock paper scissors lizard Spock, but it stays true to the fundamental theory of everything has a natural counter.
The dev needs to appreciate this rule.

And the players themselves too.
