First of all, im fairly new to New World, but i’ve been playing mmorpg’s for 20+ years. One thing that has been bothering me is the way games server infrastructure are done nowdays, and im struggling to find a reason, why?
So, what im talking about in a nutshell; players are locked to play in one server.
First ‘big’ game that went for this route was World of Warcraft (as far as i know/remember).
If you think about it, what are the positive things for locking players for one server only? Because i cant find any, from player point of view. Is it money? Is it lack of expertise?
Negative things that i found out thinking about this:
People are playing with same people, and cannot ‘meet’ new people.
We have huge amount of servers that are running out of players, if we could log in to any server, this would not be an issue.
Why do we need 3 player slots, in a “you are what you wear” -game? I’m sure im not alone on this one, i dont want to do same activities on multiple characters.
We have lot of different time zones, people have different time schedules - no matter what time it is, we could be able to pack atleats couple servers at night times too.
Super long queues for arenas, dungeons, etc - and thats not a problem only at nights.
Theres just few points, but i hope you get what im trying to say. So instead of locking players to one server, make all the servers available for anyone. People can just look from server list, how many players are on, ping - and then log in to server they feel like.
I know, its not as simple as it sounds. There are lot of different systems that needs to be reworked to be able to make these kind of changes. But i hope devs understands how big of a problem this is, not only in New World. Im enjoying the game, but i hate to hear the complains how the game is dead and bla bla. Yea, many servers are lacking players, but there are still alot of us active players.
And we could have packed servers at any time!
If you made it here - thank you for reading and share your thoughts!
That’s the thing many people like. And the whole territory control thing doesn’t work with phasing or a mega server.
Arena, OPR and things will be cross server this year. But dying servers with actually no trading post or empty open world will still exist yes. That’s when merges have to be made.
Cause Server Transfer costs real money. People are earning real money here by selling stuff so they dont bother investing in a token transfer so Well, you got a system supported by rmts being seen as a win win for everypart unless the people Who trully play It.
Game Worlds and Game Sets seem to be the remnants of an old idea of having different sets so you could log in to any world on said set, but… was scrapped apparently.
They kept that design due backend settings and how the game engine uses AWS resources, but as it was a different game on the beginning, the server cap was raised and lots of stuff changed.
What if create a server with an exclusive closed access provided by devs to those people who play with stable online,
So in each server when someone is playing with good online, you select that people( ask if they would like to be moved to the exclusive server) and move them there.
You can even create an entire auto-system for this
Pro: no-bots, no queue, people always happy, trusted-loyal players, pro-players which will always give best opinion
And if the online reduces, so u move that player back to the previous server
I like the OPs idea of being able to log into multiple servers but I don’t think it would work with territory control.
We’ll have to wait until cross server queues to sort out these issues, while also merging more servers and lowering the time since last login to select a new world when players return
Personally, I think its extremely important that the server cap is raised significantly, maybe to around 30k. having low caps cause stagnations and horrible retention rates and work against a healthy game.
Reading through ideas got me thinking. The only reason why a player would not be able to freely move from server to server is the company the player is in and the territory the company owns.
So what if you would be able to move if you move out of the company but increase the cd on joining any company related content afterwards.
Moving server to server seems easy nowadays, not like in the beginning when a lot of bugs happened.
But i guess all these issues will not be issues anymore after they make cross server OPRs and hopefully markets.
