Game Freezing After/During Fast Travel

Game just started freezing regularly. Seems to happen after fast traveling, sometimes the freeze happens before my destination even loads and I’m stuck on the splash screen. Other times I will get to my destination, but then freeze within seconds of arriving. Have to close game in task manager.

I’ve made no recent changes or updates to my system. I did verify file integrity through Steam just before playing again, but it still froze during my first fast travel.

My game freezes up too, randomly anywhere in the world. It is not a graphics issue as I may just be standing and it would freeze for 2-3secs.

I don’t get this issue in the PTR so I know is not hardware related. Plus the game was working fine before couple of patches ago.

I have completely uninstalled the game and cleared the New World’s directories in the pertinent folders created by Steam. Same issue after redownloading and reinstalling.

Game is simply unplayable under these conditions.

I created a new character, different server and the game doesn’t freeze.

I don’t think is server related otherwise lot more people would have the same issue.

It seems it is my character… something in my profile must be causing the issue (inventory, fits…)

That character, sometimes when I log into the game, my health bar is lower than it should be.

There is definitely something wrong with my profile and it seems is causing the issue.

But again, started happening couple of patches ago.

A little update. It stopped happening for a couple of days, but just started again. I did notice that my PC fans ramp up right as it happens and task manager lists the power usage as very high. Memory usage was up as well.

Hello @MoeCowbell and @Krox_Bosonx,

I am sorry to hear you seem to be having crashes when fast travelling. Please note this scenario will require our tech team to look into your logs and follow up directly with other possibly sensitive account information that is best not posted on the forums so it would be best if you could please create a web ticket in the link provided by @Wyvernn.

In the mean time, here are some very basic things you can try in order to troubleshoot this:

  1. Ensure your video drivers are up to date.
  2. Set Windows power settings to High Performance.
  • Press Windows + R, type “powercfg.cpl” into the Run window, and then press Enter.
  • Select the radio button next to the High performance power plan. You may need to click Show additional plans first.
  1. Adjust your in-game video settings. (sometimes just changing them back and forth will reset the issue)
  2. Clean boot Windows by following these instructions:
How to perform a clean boot in Windows (to reduce startup applications/Check for Malware).
  3. Reset your video driver software to the default settings.
  4. Check for evidence of overheating.
  5. Please verify the integrity of game with the Steam integrity check
How To run a Steam Integrity Check

I hope this helps and if not, do not hesitate reaching out to live support.

See you in Aeternum! :wolf:

Hello @Fenrirskoll,

Thank you for your reply.

As an update to my last post, I was under the impression that creating a new character fixed the issue but I was wrong. As soon as I got into a town, I experienced freezes.

Something similar is happening to my original character. If I’m in a place not crowded by other players, I do get freezes but far less than when in town.

I have to stress the fact that when I play in the PTR, with the same computer and same game settings, I experience no freezes whatsoever.

In regards to the troubleshooting steps shared, see below.

  1. Ensure your video drivers are up to date.

A/ I always have latest version.

  2. Set Windows power settings to High Performance.

  • Press Windows + R, type “powercfg.cpl” into the Run window, and then press Enter.

  • Select the radio button next to the High performance power plan. You may need to click Show additional plans first.

A/ I always have the PC in high performance.

  1. Adjust your in-game video settings. (sometimes just changing them back and forth will reset the issue)

    A/ Done, didn’t help.

  2. Clean boot Windows by following these instructions:
How to perform a clean boot in Windows (to reduce startup applications/Check for Malware).

A/ I haven’t tried this. Will do. But again, in the the PTR, same computer, same game settings, I get no freezes.

  3. Reset your video driver software to the default settings.

    A/ Done. Same issue.

  4. Check for evidence of overheating.

A/ MB and GPU OEM (Asus) health monitoring app shows everything nominal.

  5. Please verify the integrity of game with the Steam integrity check
How To run a Steam Integrity Check

A/ Done. Same issue. I also completely uninstalled the game and remove the game’s folders from within Steam directory and the issue persists.

I’ll just wait for the next patch and see how it goes.

Thanks again.

Hello @Krox_Bosonx,

I am sorry to hear most of the basic troubleshooting steps have not rectified this for you. Patches may or may not address the issue you are having so do not hesitate opening a support ticket via the link provided by @Wyvernn in case you continue having issues so that this can be reviewed further.

Best of lucks and see you in Aeternum! :wolf:
