When I open the game it opens like it normally does but after that it stays on the same screen and nothing happens and if I normally close it the game keeps running in the background.

I’m sorry about the issue you’re describing… i do have a coupel questions:
Does it stay stuck in the New World Logo screen?
Could you post a screenshot, if possible, of the screen in which the game freezes?
Let’s try a couple things so we can see if they fix the issue!
In order to to that, go to your Steam Library and Right Click on the New World Title > Properties > Go to the Local Files Section > Then run the “Verify integrity of game files” check. If this does not soilve the issue, please reinstall the game and check again. Please do let me know if this works!
If you are seeing the New World logo, it may be worth trying to wait it out. I thought my game was unresponsive the first few times I tried to launch it following the most recent patch. I verified integrity and rebooted my computer, tried again, and it was still stuck on the New World logo. It was only when I launched it then went afk to shower that it eventually properly launched the game. I have a beefy PC and fiber internet, too.
I assume it had to finalize the patch in some way, even if it wasn’t apparent, because now I can launch the game fast without any issues. It is odd that this is the first patch such a thing has happened on, but if you’re as impatient as I am maybe the same thing is happening to you.
